I won a copy of this. If you are a Golden Girls fan, you'll enjoy this cookbook. it's full of Golden Girls info, photos, and recipes for cheesecakes and cocktails. Most of the recipes seem pretty legit and are accompanied by photos. I'm going to try some of these recipes out ASAP in memory of Rose, Blanche, Sophia and Dorothy!
I'm a little too young to have appreciated 'The Golden Girls' as a kid, although I very vaguely remember watching episodes here and there without really understanding the humor. But I recently watched the entire series on whatever streaming service and did appreciate it much more with yes, of course, their love of cheesecake. I was not personally looking to make any of these, but I was curious to know what a cookbooks like this would look like.
It is very much what it says on the tin: recipes of cheesecakes and cocktails, interspersed with fun facts, bits of trivia and anecdotes, etc. Unlike other cookbooks, though, this is more focused: there are cheesecake variations, tips and tricks, some pictures, etc. As you can imagine, this is really a book that is capitalizing on the brand of TGG and it is not a hardcore cookbook.
That is not to say you won't find nice pictures or recipes, etc. but just be aware that it is not the book that will get to the nuts and bolts of the origins of cheesecake, etc. but rather cheesecake in the context of the show. So if you're a baker who really wanted to bake cakes, this is not necessarily that book. But it is probably a really fun coffee table book, or book to gift to a TGG fan, etc.
I'd bet this is the type of book you buy and try: a group of friends having a watchparty, a themed birthday party, maybe you're in for a stormy weekend and need a fun project to do, etc. It'd probably make for a fun blog or social media type of project, too. A great pickup for a fan of the show but if you're not sure, always be sure to thumb through at the library or bookstore.
I bought this as a bargain buy and that was correct for me. A library borrow would have been fine too but I liked being able to read this on my own timeline.
If you love the Golden Girls well this might be a good book for you. I would have enjoyed a few more food pictures but overall throwing in golden girl facts is always fun.
There are a lot of good cheesecakes and drink recipes in this book. I made the double fudge chocolate cheesecake, and it turned out perfect and was delicious. There are a lot of good pictures of the actors taken from the scenes on the television show! This is a great cookbook!
Another stumble-upon while searching for a different title in Hoopla! This time was looking for the 2nd volume of Wild's End (Hoopla has vols. 1+3 but not 2 ::shrug::). Looking forward to the photographs.
UPDATE @ END: fun to read! Not enough pictures. Cheesecake + Golden Girls = joy, comfort, happiness, pleasure, belonging, safety.
I received a copy of this book through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for an honest review.
This is a cute book!
It's broken down by each main Golden Girl character and has recipes inspired by them. Each section starts with cocktails either drank by each woman or inspired by each woman and then recipes from or inspired by the show. There's desserts (including cheese cake of course) and savory foods. There's a handful of pictures of the finished foods and quotes from the show.
Very fun theme cookbook. The author obviously spent a lot of time tying the recipes to the show and characters. Although I won't make anything from here, it was enjoyable to look at. I loved all of the funny quotes included.
