The relationship between Violet, Rez, Eli and Issac developed in reverse. From the beginning of their story, all four of them was obsessed with each other to a certain extent. Whether that be a brother's bond, a lover, or a forever kind of passion. Their lives are messy and happily-ever-afters didn't seem possible. When the guys decided on one night only, it was with the intention of fucking their fascination with Violet out of their system. They knew their lives were chaotic and destructive, therefore they wouldn't be able to keep her. Their story is fast-paced due to the fact that despite their best effort to keep her out of their lives, the moment she walked back in, everything went to shit. I’m so excited for the next book because this plot twist and cliffhanger left me speechless.
Trigger Warnings include: Mental Health talk/Bi-Polar Disorder, gang violence, drugs/weapons, sexual orientation conversation/coming out, human trafficking, racial and sexual slurs, physical and mental abuse, gaslighting, kidnapping, BDSM, bondage, primal play, choking, spanking, degradation, child abuse past reference, death/murder
If you haven’t read the series prequel novella Violet Craves, STOP and go read it. You can read that as a standalone, but you can NOT read this as a standalone. Plus, why would you want to miss out on what that novella has to offer? This picks up three months after where that leaves off. Between then and now, and through a lot of this, it’s a shitshow. But the best kind! As soon as they’re back in each others’ lives, there’s no turning back. The guys had made the decision (well, one made it, the other two went along with it) that it was for the best to cut Violet completely out. And if she went looking for them, they’d get rid of her. And this is a mafia romance, so I mean that literally. But then they lay eyes on her again…and they’re singing a different tune. Elijah was always singing along to a different tune, walking to the beat of his own drum. (I should warn you, he’s been my favorite since the get go.) Rook was my favorite for the same reason Elijah is, his heart. His heart isn’t as dark as the rest of him. It’s tender. My deadly teddy bear. Elijah was ready to jump at the chance to fully welcome Violet into their world. He knew their girl could handle it. And she proved she could, for him. Elijah, Isaac, and Renz are connected in ways only they could understand. From the terrible, heartbreaking beginning. Zac and Eli are the missing pieces of Renz soul; they make each other whole. I loved getting to properly know them outside of the bedroom. I was constantly laughing and turned on at the same time (just like Eli). Unfortunately, Violet and I are no longer on good terms.Violet had me toeing the four star line because of our differences of opinion, but I gotta give Renz the credit he deserves, that fifth star is all his. She’s been thrust into their world. Question is, will she survive it? Will the men survive her?

My Favorite Quotes: • “She’s covered where other men’s hands are concerned.” • “It wasn’t just the sex, it was you.” • “Say it again. Beg for me.” • “I feel alive with you.” • “You do not touch her unless I tell you to.” • “Be a good boy so I can reward you both." • “That’s right, I am your fucking God.”

“Do you want to play, Princess?”
Rough Love is book one of the Trichotomy of New York series!! It’s fast-paced and is full of angst, tension, and pure need and desire. As always, please check the trigger warnings before diving in !
Violet and her guys are back and I am so damn excited! I’ve been impatiently waiting for this baby to be released and can honestly say it was everything I had hoped for and more.
If you haven’t read the prequel to the series, you need to stop right now and read it. Not only will Violet Craves set this series up for you, but it’s also the hottest novella ever and I think it needs to be in everyone’s lives.
While Violet Craves is full of smut, Rough Love is more focused on world building & character development. You get a glimpse into the minds of Violet and her guys and start to have an idea of why they did what they did. That being said, the smut that was included in the book was seriously hot and erotic AF.
Each of these men already has my heart. I cannot wait to see where this series goes! That cliffhanger too… god I need answers and I need them now !
I genuinely love Bex’s writing and cannot wait for the next book in the series 🤍

Woah. The spice. THE SPICE. This book has a lot of spice with such a good plot! Violet is living her life where we left off in the prequel and she is struggling, until she spots them again. And she makes them work!
Eli is such a sweetheart. A protective, murdering sweetheart.
Zac is so loyal and protective.
Renz. My fave. 🥰 You’re crazy and I love it.
Just kidding at the minute I’m not sure I have a fave because I love them all.
The ending?? Aghhhh I need the second book please. 🥲
Whew, we're in the deep end now, Bex Dawn really knows how to draw you into this world and want to just stay here. After reading the books for the Los Diablos Syndicate, I knew I had to read Violet Craves, and I don't know how my kindle didn't combust. After meeting Violet, Rez, Eli and Issac, I knew I had to continue reading their story, and Rough Love was just that, ROUGH. Especially that cliffhanger!
After we left off, the guys basically left Violet thinking she was asleep... she was NOT, and heard them talk about their real names and how dangerous their lives are. As we progress into Rough Love, we see more about the guys, what their lives are like after that one night, and how much their fighting their attraction to her. Violet, gets a bit reckless after everything she's been through, she's hurt from her past relationship, and these 3 men only added to it. I like Violet a lot, she's not weak and will do everything she can for those she cares about.
Rough Love is more of a medium burn versus Violet Craves that was a fast burn, so you get to learn more about these characters, the build up is just as hot ;). You also learn how deep their fascination goes with Violet, you can't believe how deep it goes.
This story goes from 0-60 real quick, you won't want to put this book down until the end... when you want to throw it across the room. I can't wait for the second book of this duet, and I'm excited to see where the rest of the connected world characters take us!
ARC Review: The prequel for Rough Love, Violet Craves is hot & sinfully spicy. Then, you get to Rough Love and get to see the guys life, what they are going through, their hardships, fighting their attraction to Violet because their world is to dangerous for her. And Violet, the crazy girl, had her heart hurt from a past relationship and now from these 3 men. She is alittle reckless, and as the guys would say, lacks self-preservation. But she is strong, stubborn, and loyal to a fault. Violet shows she isnt weak and that she will do anything for those she loves. (Even if she doesn't know it yet)
Violet Craves may have been fast burn but Rough Love slows down and is more medium/slow burn. I promise you though, when you get to the spice, it's hot, erotic, and everything you've been waiting for throughout the book. Bex does not disappoint with the smut!
The cliffhanger, just about killed me. I need the next book to get answers!!! I can't wait to see what comes next with Violet & her men. I absolutely loved Rough Love and I can't wait for everyone to get to read it and enjoy it just as much!!
I received this as an advance reader copy and this is my honest review.
Before reading this, make sure you read the prequel novella Violet Craves. In the prequel, we meet Violet, who decides to explore her unfulfilled sexually adventurous side after catching her husband of 6-years cheating on her. There are 3 sinfully hot men at her gym whom she’s been fantasizing about for months, and when they all end up at the same club as Violet they agree on one thing: they will fulfill her every desire for one night, and one night only. No real names, no personal info exchanged.
After a mind-blowing night with Violet, the guys abruptly leave in the morning without saying goodbye. It’s been 3 months since that night when Rough Love picks up. Here we get to learn so much more about the guys, what they do for a living, what their lives have been like the past 3 months, and the mental torture they’ve been going through while staying away from Violet for her own safety.
When they come back into her life, can Violet prove what they had was real? Can she handle their dangerous lifestyle? Also- is she safer away from them or by their sides?
THAT CLIFFHANGER. I’ve quickly come to realize Bex is the QUEEN of killer cliffhangers. I will be slowly losing my mind until I find out what happens in the next book.
Where Violet Craves was basically smut from start to finish, Rough Love involves a bit more world building and getting to know the characters and experience their growth. Don’t fear though, there is still plenty of spice. Oh boy is there spice… Bex Dawn has such a way with creating an interesting world and plot with deliciously spicy scenes woven in.
This book has: - Why Choose - Mafia romance - MM, MMF, MF - Strong FMC - Interconnected world with Los Diablos Syndicate series - Killer cliffhanger
This continuation of the trichotomy is the fast paced, angst driven, & tension inducing book we needed from this crew!! Of course we have one who’s denying everything until it’s too late & a FMC who thinks she can hand the big bad lifestyle of her guys! Violets does a great job though & the love that is developing between all the characters makes my heart flutter! But also, the k!nks in here are SOOOOO hot & on point!! Everything is safe & well executed!! It’s perfection!!!
DNF at 70%. I just couldn’t force myself to finish it. I just don’t care about anything going on. I’m so sad because I had high expectations.
I really like the fmc, and the mmcs have a lot of potential. But the plot? It’s so boring. The entire book is the mafia guys against an unknown bad guy. What the bad guy does? Car chases. That’s it. That’s the plot.
I don’t care. This bad guy did nothing to spark my interest to keep reading to find out who is he. Also, the interesting thing about the prequel was the sex and the characters’ dynamics, those aren’t in this book. Up until the part where I read there was half a spicy scene in there, and she doesn’t meet everyone until 50%. That’s not what I signed up for.
I’m sure that the next book is better because there is all this background laid out. But I’m not going to find out.
I was looking forward to this book after reading the prequel. This had so much fill and repetitive inner dialog I couldn't finish. I wanted to love this book. The characters are amazing. For multi POVs, there was minimal dialog with others. I caught myself skipping the paragraphs of inner dialog to read the interactions between characters. Not sure how many days this book covered, but I stopped reading somewhere around 70% when it was around 2 days in. Even so, I probably only read 100 pages of the 70%.
Anything Bex Dawn writes is bound to be amazing but I found myself destroyed after this book because I literally want to be the FMC Violet and I can't wait to see what happens next. This one left on a cliff hanger and I can't wait to pre-order the next one! If you haven't read any of Bex's other books yet then stop and do yourself a favour - go check out everything prior to Rough Love, especially Violet Craves. Her other Los Diablos series also has characters that are interwoven into this series as well but it's not necessary to read them first but those boys are also AMAZING.
I received Rough Love as an Advanced Reader Copy and quickly read it in an entire sitting. I've been patiently waiting for this to release after reading the prequel and it did not disappoint.
The story picked up shortly after we left Violet in the first book after she had a hawt nameless night with her three hot men - Rez, Eli and Issac. Just like the first book, the storyline of innocent cafe owner Violet flows, is extremely entertaining and just downright SO spicy at times. Did anyone say three-some? Yes please! In Rough Love we find Violet in turmoil over her feelings for the men she was with months ago. Should she try and find them or not? She knows a connection was there with all of them but doesn't realize they've been keeping her at a distance because of the dangers of their lives while silently watching out for her. Once reunited life moves fast for this fantastic four-some and the cliffhanger of all cliffhanger catches us off guard. Once again, well done Bex!
If you are squemish about your trigger warnings then tread carefully as there is discussion about Mental Health talk/Bi-Polar Disorder, gang violence, drugs/weapons, sexual orientation conversation/coming out, human trafficking, racial and sexual slurs, physical and mental abuse, gaslighting, kidnapping, BDSM, bondage, primal play, choking, spanking, degradation, child abuse past reference, death/murder.

ARC Review
OUT SEP 17
Violet and the boys are back!
I fell in love with Bed Dawn’s writing in Violet Craves and have never fallen out.
Eli, Isaac and Renz are amazing and I love all of them. All of them denying they want her and Violet feeling the same, just for fate to bring them back together. All the guys melting just for her, but being a badass themselves.
There’s so much I love about Rough Love and not enough space. I fell in love from the very first scene. And Violet is a badass, blatantly obvious from her first sentence.
And Eli ordering every single coffee drink on her menu, out of spite just to talk to Violet? Ultimate goals tbh.
And yes he’s hotter than the lumberjack on TikTok.
“ ‘What is this, Eli? Fight club? Hogwarts? Because I’m telling you, I’m beginning to feel a little bit like a muggle right now.’ “
“Like a priest with holy water, these sessions purge me of my demons and 42 just happens to be my church.”
“ ‘Plotting murder, Princess?’ // I barely contain an eye roll as the second asshole strolls into the library. ‘If he dies, can I have his books?’ “
You would love all my kindle highlights from this alone.
It’s not even out yet and already I need more of them.
Tw // kidnapping, graphic sexual content, alcohol, drugs, blood, murder, panic attacks, car accidents
The writing, dialogue, and FMC were all very juvenile for a book with these themes.
Phrases were written incorrectly in many instances. For example, “what in the hell” was written as “what and the hell” several times and that’s just weird and frustrating.
Words were switched with homonyms like dual and duel.
Long unnecessary blocks of internal monologue had me rolling my eyes. Sometimes it was supposed to be humorous but it fell so flat and just came off as cringey. Like why did we stop in the middle of a serious sex safety conversation in order to be subjected to half a page of Violet musing over what she would do if she had a penis? Annoying. Move on.
The FMC was too irrational and childish for my tastes. At one point, she punches the guys in their dicks because she was mad over everyone following the agreed upon terms of their first night together? Grow up girl. You all agreed and they did nothing wrong. 😑
She came off as impulsive and desperate and, again, childish. I’m annoyed because she wasn’t like that in the novella.
The quality of writing in these books is poor and they should be free on kindle unlimited instead of for purchase. I would not continue on reading if I had to buy it. But I have access to borrow the series from a friend.
So I’ll probably continue with the next book just to see the outcome of the cliffhangers. But I already know I’ll likely DNF shortly thereafter.
2.25 stars instead of 1 because of the decent smut and cliffy.
If it's written by Bex Dawn, I know I'm gonna love it!!!
Rough Love is book #1 in The Trichotomy of New York series. Read the prequel novella Violet Craves first. This is a dark mafia reverse harem. Make sure to check the trigger warning.
I am so obsessed with Violet and her guys!!!
If you read Violet Craves, you know Violet spent a hot, unforgettable night with the guys and there were feelings involved, but they left without saying goodbye and Violet isn't too happy about that.
Rough Love picks up 3 months later, and Violet can't stop thinking about them and that night they shared. What she doesn't know, is that they did it to keep her safe, and when she overheard them talking she made her own assumptions about what they are.
When she finds out what they are keeping from her, she wont stop until she proves what they had was real, no matter how much Renz tries to fight it, and that they can be together.
That cliffhanger has me wanting to cry!!!! I can't wait for more!!
Bex Dawn creates these amazing worlds with characters you can relate to and plots that hook you and won't let you go. I have been lucky to be on her ARC team since Crash and i love her work, plus she is such a sweet, beautiful, caring person. She puts her all into her books, and you can tell.
Rough Love is amazing and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Three months after that "eventful" night with her 3 men that left Violet wanting so much more, but the deal was ONE NIGHT ONLY! No numbers, no names (even though she overheard them) and that's not all she heard..
This time we get a glimpse in the life of Renz, Isaac, and Elijah. Who are these men? We know they are hot, sexy and DANGEROUS. But they are so much more🥵 And what happend in the last 3 months. After their night with Violet, they decided that they need to let her go. and stay away (to protect her) No contact whatsoever.. Easier said then done right?! Even for Renz😏
Eli and his ☕ 🍵🥤🧃 just to talk to her.. 😂
When they all cross paths again it isn't unicorns and rainbows but dangerous and bloody. Violet sees the men for who they really are..including their enemies. She will do what it takes to keep the men in her life, but is it safe? And should she be afraid of them of fighting alongside them.
This book ends on a cliffhanger🤯 so yeah you keep craving for more!
Read triggers/kinks⚠️⚠️
Bex thank you again for these men (still jeolous tho) proud of you🖤
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 MFC: Violet irritated me for most of this 😅 MMC(s): Renz needs another punch to the dick. Plot: 3/5 Book cover: 5/5 Would I buy a physical copy?: still going with yes!
I feel like Violet blew everything way out of proportion for this book/held onto a unnecessary grudge. She knew going in that it was supposed to be a one time thing, she also was awake when they left. She clearly heard Renz words that morning, what part of his statement made her believe anything more would happen? I’m all for wishful thinking, but she definitely showed her immature side. And don’t even get me started on that ‘joke’ she played on Eli. Thaaaaaat pissed me off and broke my heart for him.
Zac surprised me, I totally thought he was going to be the one to fight off Violet inserting herself into their lives. Also, their scene with Eli??? 🤌🏻💋✨ MORE. I want more!!
Renz. Their scene together was H A W T. Literal perfection. He’s such a hothead which meshes with VI’s bratty mouth and her severe lack of self preservation 😂 also, how does he NOT see who his enemy is?! I called it in the goshdang novella! 🙃
It was one night with no names and no numbers. so why does violet feel so hurt when the 3 men do exactly that? 3 months after they walked out of her room and life she still craves them. But can she handle the real men and not the characters from her book? Time to find out. The way these men can control her is amazing. And let me tell you the story between Eli and Zac might be my absolute favorite. Especially when we get much more backstory into their history and lives and I am so here for it. Holy sizzle I love Bex's writing style and how she can mesh the dirty, dark, and spicy with humor and witty banter. There are so many quotes and scenes I want to share but I hate spoilers ! So enjoy a quote we can allllll get behind !
“Books are meant to be enjoyed, Violet. Loved and explored, not hidden in display cases. There’s nothing better than going on a journey through the pages of someone’s imagination while smelling that visceral scent or the decadent feel of leather and paper between your fingers. Reading isn’t for the eyes, it’s for the soul.”
I didn’t read the whole prequel ( just reached the physical prescription to each of the men) and I didn’t feel like I missed anything, I didn’t like the fact they act like a mature like a target on their backs/ Dons/ capos kinda mature, all the characters, e.g when Renz texted her to run like he has no business to do wtf LMAO, also when she thought he won’t be noticing her with her purple hair! 🤣
Monologues; lot and I mean a lot of misguided inner monologues.
Plot; it is in there! Alas I couldn’t find myself interested in it, it’s there but I can’t get it, since they left her and three months later still being attached why? Where is the mafia buz.
The mafia this; I don’t feel like it is a dark mafia story which is supposed to be, it’s not grabbing attention like a dark one. It called mafia but …
Regarding Characters: I read in some reviews that there is a character development but I don’t see it if so I had to skip a lot of unnecessary paragraphs just to read the interactions and mostly it’s about sex included or yell or anger.
Am I reading the wrong book!? I read the triggers and I was ready but went out disappointed yet unimpressed …
So I am really digging this series. The novella was basically just a short set up and a whole lotta spice. But this first book we got more plot and more character development.
I really enjoy Violet. She is smart, hardworking, sassy, and confident. She is the right mixture of everything without being too annoying or too much. I loved getting to know more of the guys. I love their differing personalities, and seeing how they each interact with Violet.
The spice in the series is top tier. So good. We get a good amount, while still having a good plot.
I'm a bit annoyed that there is *spoiler warning* a pregnancy trope going on. I'm not a fan of them. Love them in epilogues, or like at the end of books, not a fan of them when they become a plot point. Accidental pregnancies are just, in my opinion obnoxious. It takes away from the characters relationship development and in my opinion taints it just a bit.
The book ends on a cliffhanger and I find myself absolutely diving into the next book immediately to find out what happens!
I am very fortunate and Elated to receive an ARC Rough Love from Bex Dawn. I finished the book last night.
A few months ago, I innocently picked up Burn: Los Diablos book 1. I didn't know it at the time, but picking up that book would change my life. I always feel a little numb after reading one of Bex’s books and Rough Love is no exception. She’s an expert world builder and a wordsmith who always finds a way to transport me. With such high expectations of ‘Rough Love', I was honestly nervous about what was going to happen. After reading Violet Craves, while amazingly written and steamy AF, you don’t get the character depth. But once you crack open Rough Love, you get to fall Madly and deeply in love with all the characters. I found myself crying, laughing out loud, and there were times when I literally tossed my book across the room, but I always picked it back up and fell back in love with this world and these beloved characters. Violet, Eli, Renz and Zack…life without them would just be ordinary. So my dear readers, do yourself a favor and read this book and allow the ever so talented Bex Dawn to take you on a ride like no other. I promise, you won’t want to get off this ride.
4.25 This continuation of the trichotomy is the fast-paced, angst driven, and smutty tension. Violet is determined to get her men back, and they are all pining for her. This book slowed way down and really pushed the mafia plot, which was needed from the spicy pre novella. Your gettinf alot of the guys' backstories, and also, all thr crap their dealing with everyone trying to kill them. The chapters at times got a bit descriptive like I get it qe know what they are all wearing and eating let's just keep moving. Also I hate how issac has Zack as a nickname im like wait who are we talking about..confusing The relationship with Issac and Elijah gah I love an emotional stunted scared bi man who is scared of everything and a goofy, strong man who waits patiently. But also, the k!nks in here are SOOOOO hot & on point!! Everything is safe & well executed!! It’s such good degradation and BDSM. This does leave on a cliffhanger....
So so happy to have Violet and her man back!! Violet Craves was amazing and Rough Love is the perfect continuation of their story!! So many emotions throughout this book. Definitely laughed more than a few times, especially at the references to the TT lumberjack man lol! And Violets descriptions of what she’d do if she had a peen! Oh Lordy. It was perfect. You get the backstory, the plot development, the character building, and the spice. Don’t get me started! The forest scene?! Melt your pants off. I absolutely can not wait for book 2 and more of Violet, Renz, Eli, and Isaac. I’d sell a spare organ to have it now haha
Ho.ly.sh.iet…. lmao wow. I am having trouble forming a single coherent thought. the prequel to this book was lust personified. Book 1 was where the plot thickened. I LOVE love love these characters. and now that my little mafia doms have pulled their heads out their butts lol Book 2 is gonna be wild. spicy, hot, steamy, funny, cute, action, pew pews MAFIA. ugh, the perfect mafia smut. #teamEli & i dont care what you say.
AND THAT SCENE. if you have read the book you know exacccctly WHAT SCENE. THE scene. THE freakin scene 🫠 i melt. so hot. so so so level 10 binge worthy.
The many names in this series was giving me a headache. Book names, real names, nicknames, pet names, too many names. I also hate reading books set in NYC because they’re never accurate, no one in they’re right mind would kick off their shoes and run through Central Park, especially a New Yorker 😂 Okay I’m done, now onto the positives. I really like Violet & I LOVE her family. Violet is hilarious and seems to be a normal woman going through life making bad decisions. I really like the guys, especially Eli! He’s so damn sweet. I knew it was his slimy uncle the whole damn time! Welp onto the next ☝🏼
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I was excited to jump back into Violets world and get this story going because I was already super invested after Violet Craves. Bex is such an amazing author, building up these characters and stories so well that you cannot help but want to know what happens next and dig deep into their emotions.
We got to dig into the plot in this book but the spice is *chefs kiss*, the best MMF scene I’ve ever read, plus some primal kink? I mean can it get better?
I apologize in advance because you’ll be dying for book 2 right along with me. Read this book!
I had high hopes for this after the incredibly hot prequel, but the book was a disappointment. Violet doesn't meet the first of the three guys until 20% in and the other two about 50% in. The second half was a lot more interesting when they were all together, but it was only the hope that the four of them would get together again that got me through the first half.
I do want to read book 2 when it comes out since it feels like the introduction is out of the way now and we can get to the actual romance and smut.
Holy wow! The explosive story of Violet coming back into the lives of Eli, Isaac and Renz is one of the best things I've read in ages! It is funny, I laughed out loud about Violet fantasizing about what she's so if she had real boy parts, I even read that but to my husband, who informed me that aiming is more difficult than I'd know. It's also incredibly hot, I was squirming with need at certain points!!!!!!! Let alone what Violet and Eli were feeling! Wonderful
This book picks up 3 months after the night Violet and her guys spent together. They've been busy fighting a mafia war and securing Renz's seat at the top while she's been trying to stay busy and move on from how hurt she felt after it all went down.
Elijah is sick to death of not being with his little flower and ends up perusing her despite Renz and Issac thinking its best to leave her out of their world and it dosent take long for things to go from 0 to 100 drama and spice!
That cliffhanger was rough and I'm so glad that the next book is out so I can find out wtf is going on!
I need the next book like now. Omg I couldn't even put it down to save my life. This book and the first book was intense. But it was so freaking good. Like my jaw on the ground good.
I need more of these books in my life. The BDSM was prefect, the spice was off the hook amazing. The MM was prefect can't wait for more of that.
The ending though. . That cliff hanger leaves you hanging. Like holy sh!t. 😍 this book deserves more then 5 stars 🌟 🤩
° Way too many endless little details that I cared nothing about. That seemed to just be word filler. Like pages and pages describing Violet's coffee shop. 😴 ° Too much rambling. ° Too many repetitive inner monologues. ° Violet was annoying in this one. Acting high-handed and like she was owed something. When she knew along, it was meant to be one night, no names, no numbers in 1st book.
