Nightstar Shifters #6

Taming Her Mate

Rate this book
Will the love of her witch be enough to heal her wolf?

Kardia Marway was sent to Howling Valley to live a peaceful life. As the granddaughter of a councilman, her life would always be in the spotlight and dangerous. She would be free to live as she wanted in her new town with her little secret.

Kardia couldn’t shift.

Her wolf refused to make an appearance.

River Delacroix was a powerful witch and healer. The moment she laid her eyes on Kardia, she knew the wolf was in pain and needed her help.

She was desperate to help Kardia. Everything she tried failed. She had to succeed because she’d awakened for Kardia. This wolf was the other half of her soul.

If her love for the wolf shifter couldn’t fix her, how could they truly seal their bond?

Howling Valley is my go to area for paranormal romance. There humans, witches and wolves co-exist in harmony.
Kardia Markway is a very frustrated wolf shifter. At odds with her family since an incident (she cannot fully recall) that stymied her wolf - they treat her with disdain. Her powerful, beloved grandfather Wyett brings her to the Valley hoping her wolf will re-emerge with proper care. It's been 10 years, a long time for her wolf to be repressed. River Delacroix a witch, teacher and member of the White Lotus Coven is tasked to help her.
Ariel writes of a mating call to bond so strong it fills the minds of River and Kardia. For River even before their first meeting. The wolf unable to emerge and mark her mate. The witch consumed with the need to protect more so when she discovers a powerful curse is behind her mate's troubles. I enjoyed the intertwining of characters from previous books, descriptions of scenery and for Kardia the longing to be free to run once more - feel the earth beneath her paws. We learn of treachery, a warlock, badass witch Cora and loving grandfather in this torrid romance with a HEA. I look forward to the next hot adventure involving the Valley!!
Easily recommend this enjoyable escape from reality.

TW/CW:

I really hate how 'disabled' and 'defected' are used interchangeably implying that having a disability makes you defective:
"She was broken. Defected. An embarrassment to her family."
"Neither of her parents were around to remind her of her disability..."
"She had always dreamed of this moment, but it wasn’t supposed to happen now. Not when she was a defected wolf."

Though this has attempted to be rectified, I would still say this unacceptable:
"...she would rather walk away from River than have her bound to a disabled wolf. She didn’t say defective. Disabled. She had come to terms with this label."

On a nitpick note, why were we robbed of a fight scene, descriptions of food eaten and process of recovery after being injured? This is such a disappointing end to honestly a decent series

Good story but needs more proofreading

I love good paranormal stories, especially shifter ones, and this one is pretty good.

The plot line is great, lovely characters without getting too deep.

My only issue is that it needs another proofreading run. There are a number of instances where an incorrect word was used, but because it was spelled correctly, the error wasn't caught.

For instance (and this drove me crazy, also very cringe), several times the wolf refers to herself as a "defected" wolf rather than defective. These two words have very different meanings and a simple read through would catch this very easily.

Errors like this are a pet peeve of mine and make me cringe. When there are many such errors it detracts from the story. Thankfully, there wasn't a lot of them, so the story was good. Fix these errors, and the story would be great.

For 10 years Kardia’s wolf wouldn’t shift and her family treated her differently trying to make her believe what happened to her wasn’t real. She moved to town to be near her grandfather who was a councilman and had named her for the second council. River was asked to help her get her wolf to come out and they realized that they were mates and Kardia had been cursed. The warlock came back and took her mind to the shadow realm, so River, Cora a powerful witch and her grandfather and guards went there to get her back. Found and caught the person behind the curse also. Good book!.

Wolf and witch FF romance!

I’m not normally into reading FF, but Ariel Marie does such a great job. I read the first book in this series as well, and was impressed after that story as well.

The paranormal elements are so in depth, and it helps with the world building which is done nicely too. Every book in this series is a standalone, but for this one (#6), I wish I would’ve read the fourth because the characters show back up and play an important role.

There’s a guaranteed HEA and an epilogue, which I always like when an author adds that extra tidbit.

Hot, well written and engaging. Is there really anything else to say about this love story - that's a rhetorical question.

Without too many spoilers, there's love, betrayal, community and loads of paranormal activity, but this is not for the faint of mind because it's very X rated, almost too much, but not quite ;) . The writing style is so easy to fall into and the characters are such that I felt invested and offended on their behalves. Very enjoyable.

Absolutely loved it!

I love all of this series but having another brown skinned lead means so much to me personally. I hope there are more in the future. I loved Kardia as much as I did Heather. Though Kardia was troubled by the curse, she was never seen as weak, especially not by her mate, which was really important. All the twists and suspense were very exciting. It was also really nice to have Kardia and River interact with Cora. I hope more Nightstar Shifters are coming! Thank you Ariel Marie for another great read!

I loved this book and its set up. So often in shifter novels, the shifting is taken for granted - but what if the wolf can't shift? Can even love set the inner wolf free? This book explores the emotional journey between Kardia and River. The hidden mystery behind Kardia's inability to shift is a good one, albeit a bit muddled at the end.

This was a really great book about a witch and a wolf shifter who couldn’t shift into her wolf form who met and found they were fated mates.
The imagination for this book was fantastic and the two main characters were so right for each other. There was a good build up to a tense ending too.

Wolves, Covens, and Politics - watch out. We don't know what's going on with Kardia's wolf. The book might be hard to process through to start, but you'll want to read the whole story to find out the answer. You can assume whatever you want based on the other books of the series, and you are likely to have the answer wrong. Nice little plot twist.

Deceit

I was definitely surprised with where this story led me. I loved all 6 books. But I think the first one and the sixth book were the most exciting.
Ill be seeking out more of your books in the future. Thank you for your gift of writing.

so quick…

I guess it just started off too fast and I hadn’t had a chance to build any rapport with either character. Nice story line, but just too fast.
