Scripted Love #2

Forever Yours, Lucy

Rate this book
A man who doesn’t trust women, the frustratingly wonderful woman who works for him, and the words that change everything.

Silas McIntyre is a successful entrepreneur who lacks for nothing—except a woman in his life. That’s because he has a bone to pick with womankind. So, it’s especially galling for him to realize how dependent he has become on his all-too-female personal assistant.

If Lucy Halverson can ever figure out how to make a good choice instead of a foolish one, she’ll be happy. Starting over sounds good. Leaving her grumpy boss, all the better. Not even a secret admirer with a penchant for writing swoon-worthy words can change her mind, whoever he is.

When Lucy announces her intent to leave Silas’s employment, he’ll do just about anything to keep her—even make her fall for him. But when he’s the one to fall instead, his battered heart is on the line.

As Lucy learns there is more to Silas than she ever dreamed, she has to make a decision. Will it be her best one yet—or another disaster to add to her list?

The Scripted Love series is a Christian romance series set along the shores of Lake Michigan. Join the Halverson siblings as they grow their faith and find love through the written word.

Lucy had gotten out of a bad relationship before she went to work for Silas. He had gone through a divorce from a woman who was only interested in his money.

She had previously made bad choices, so she wasn't sure if she was making the right decisions now. He judged all women by his ex. Will Lucy realize that she can make the right decision? Will Silas realize that not all women are like his ex? Both of them are asking God for His help in their lives. Will there be a HEA for them?

I received a free ARC, and this is my honest opinion.

I’ll start saying that I like Christian romance. I even like Amish romance. But this book rubbed me the wrong way, and not because os the preachy vibe these kind of book usually have.

This is a very interesting take on the enemies to more troupe, and I really liked the build up that pushes these two combatants to rethink their views. Silas and Lucy both have a hurtful past. Lucy has kept her hurts buried and no one would know with her cheerful disposition (with everyone but Silas). Silas, on the other hand, has allowed his pain to skew his attitude towards women and he is very vocal in his opinion that all are not to be trusted or respected. This makes for a rocky situation at work since Silas is Lucy’s boss.
There are some sensitive topics discussed in this book, which is nothing unusual for an Emily Botrous book. Close friends and family are shown to be invaluable in helping to heal wounds and give unconditional love and support to our characters. Faith and forgiveness are also key in this story.
I received an ARC of this book from the author, but I would have read it anyway as I love her writing. This review is my own opinion.

I absolutely enjoyed this book. For me it was a message of hope of a second chance. God gives us a second chance when we don't get it right the first time (and even a second or third time, as long as we don't make it a habit to not get it right). Once we understand our failing and seek His help, He comes right in and helps us.

The story was a tear jerker in some places and outright hilarious in others, but all in all it a beautiful story of hope, healing and acceptance. Definitely worth reading.

Note: I am an ARC beneficiary, but this review is my honest opinion and it's given voluntarily.

Enemies-to-lovers

Silas is Lucy's boss and it's clear the two dislike each other intensely. An unexpected challenge changes that and as they get to know each other, they discover their real personalities.
I loved the verbal sparring, the huge character developments, and Silas's best friend, Isaac.

This book was impossible to put down. I had to see how the love story would work out, and I wasn't disappointed. I loved Lucy, and now I'm looking forward to Isaac and Joy's story.

Not bad. The story moved forward enough to keep my attention. The physical attraction to her body came on a bit strong for me, but what do I know I’m not a man. The ending was not my favorite but I think that’s because there story continues to be told in the next book.

This contemporary Christian, enemies to loved ones, office romance trope was such a heartfelt book that I could not put this book down.
This tale revolves around Silas McIntyre, a gifted tech multi-millionaire, workaholic, divorced man in his thirties who has recently been extremely hurt by his conniving ex wife. He is a bit broken inside and he tries to barricade his heart behind sternness and being unfeeling. The female main character is feisty, kind, caring, charming executive assistant, Lucy Halverson who has endured his moods and difficulties for a year through the grace of God. She has some hidden hurts from her past that she is very ashamed of and this story delves deeply into both main characters' past experiences and how they learn to move forward into a future together.
Their relationship is full of strife but it slowly starts evolving into something loving, understanding and accepting and they discover that maybe the other is not as unpleasant as they imagined.
There is a deep sprinkling of Christian teaching throughout the novel which is encouraging and helps the reader relate to the characters. There were amusing moments and poignant parts which really evoked emotions in the reader as we cheer this special couple towards their HEA.
The book is clean (kissing only) and it makes a pleasant read where a book contains no swear words. There is an epilogue if you sign up for the author's newsletter.
A recommended read and I look forward to reading the next book in this series about Lucy's sister, Joy.

A traumatic divorce has left Silas unwilling to trust women in general - and not treating them well either. When his poor treatment of her drives his assistant Lucy to quit, he's desperate to get her back. Too proud to beg her not to leave, he decides to try to convince her to stay by writing her secret letters telling her how much he appreciates her. The only problem? In paying attention to her so he can write honestly, he starts to fall for her. Will he be able to overcome his past to make a new future? And can he convince her he's really changed?

This author has never disappointed me yet, and this book was no exception. I was hooked from page one and Silas and Lucy held by interest to the very end. I loved watching them each gradually open up to the other, and talk through past experiences and pains. I also appreciated the family support each had. All in all, this was a heart-warming, inspiring and satisfying story, with interesting characters, good character development, some thought-provoking letters and a satisfying ending. I look forward to Joy's story - it can't come too soon! Highly recommended.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

"She was livid. She was every bit as stubborn as him, maybe more. She was Lucy Halverson. And this time, he'd pushed her too far."

In the fiction world, books often fit certain tropes. This one fits two categories: enemies to more and billionaire. Neither one is a category that I usually enjoy, but yet I loved this book. I think that is because the author did a wonderful job combining what could be stereotypical elements into a beautifully told story of redemption.

Silas has money. But it doesn't define him. Lucy may be feisty, but she is also loyal. Silas knows how to push her buttons. But once he takes notice of Lucy, he realizes that she means far more to him than just assisting his business life.

This book is written for adults as there are some complicated situations. Faith is an important element. So is forgiveness. Family matters too. This one also made me laugh. All elements of a highly enjoyable book.

We first met Lucy in Scripted Love Book 1 as her twin brother was the main character. Silas played a part in that one too - Lucy's boss who had money but didn't always want to share it. If you read that one, you will more fully appreciate the growth of both Lucy and Silas in this title. I am definitely looking forward to reading book three as those characters played a role in this one.

I was provided with an advanced copy of this book. I wanted to read it as I had read the first book. All opinions are my own.

Emily Dana Botrous, you are a gifted writer, I absolutely loved this book and was reading every minute I could. At times I was sad, at times happy tears were dabbed and at times their story melted my heart. Not only did I like Silas and Lucy, and their bantering and sarcasm which then turned so beautifully tender, I also liked her close knit family, his grandparents and friend Isaac. It a clean and uplifting read and many examples of how we should talk to the Lord and give our troubles to Him. It is also a great reminder that He directs our path and only wants the best for us. Get this book and read this wonderful and uplifting story for yourself.
Cannot wait for the next book.
I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

Overcoming Fears to Find Love

There is plenty of banter, but Silas and Lucy’s path to love is not easy. They both have big hurts in their pasts that are making it difficult for them to move forward. The author did a great job of handling sensitive issues realistically and with compassion. I especially appreciated how loving and supportive Silas’ grandparents, his friend Isaac, and Lucy’s family were, and how they pointed Silas and Lucy to the Lord.

Forever Yours, Lucy was my introduction to author Emily Dana Botrous’ work. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from this author, especially the stories of other characters in this book!

I received an advance reader copy of this book. This is a voluntary review, and the opinions expressed are my own.

Yet again Emily's characters demonstrate a story that parallels God's love for us. While this story wasn't as gripping as some of her others have been, I still found myself connected to the characters and able to relate to some of their life situations. The love story in some scenes is a bit more on the heated side than her other books but that fit with the characters' back stories (and it never got inappropriate in description).
This is a story of second and third chances...and the fact that love may be hiding somewhere that was always right there, however, one may have to fight past scars to avoid building a wall and blocking those we love. Silas and Lucy truly show how love can overcome! I am looking forward to Joy's story coming next!!

I really enjoyed this summery, beachy, workplace romance. The tension between Lucy and the boss she thinks hates her was so good. When Silas started writing secret admirer letters to her, I couldn't put the book down because I just had to see Lucy's reaction when she found out who it was. I liked that there were some heavier topics woven into this story. They painted an amazing reminder that forgiveness is for everyone. Even those who make the biggest mistakes. I loved that Lucy had a great relationship with her parents and siblings. It was fun to see the Halversons again and see how TJ and Melody were doing. I really enjoyed the summer activities in this book. The walks on the beach, the kayaking, and the 4th of July celebration make this a perfect read for vacation.

Lucy & Silas

This was a very interesting story, with much of the character development revealed through a series of notes exchanged between the main characters. Both Silas and Lucy are badly hurt by previous relationships that went wrong when their exes were not equally committed and were found out to be unfairhful and manipulative or abusive. Seeing then working to recommit their lives first to God, and then to each other, relapsing into the old patterns of behavior and then repenting and seeking forgiveness was a clear parallel to the way God forgives us on a daily, even hourly basis.

I purchased a copy of this story and voluntarily chose to share my review.

I really enjoyed this love story. The author really pulled me deeply into understanding the characters, their pasts, and how that influenced their present.  At first I did not like Silas but the more I got to know him I understood him better.  He was so hurt by his ex-wife that it was hard for him to trust women.Lucy had been hurt by her past too and she was ashamed of some things. I really enjoyed the faith that both characters had and their belief of faith over fear.  The letters were a lot of fun.  I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

This book was a real page turner for me. Because of his past, Silas had decided that all women were problems, even though he had a female assistant. Needless to say, he didn’t treat Lucy very well. When she finally turns in her notice, he realizes that she is the best he has ever had as an assistant and starts to see her as a person. I loved the faith element in the story. A wonderful story that I really enjoyed!
I received an advance copy of this book from the author, however I voluntarily wrote an honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

This enemies to sweethearts clean romance had me turning pages late into the night. I loved how both Lucy and Silas were challenged to adjust their attitudes and become examples of their faith in difficult relationships. I really appreciate that the author writes about imperfect Christians who learn to grow in their application of their faith. None of us is perfect and it is refreshing to read realistic characters whose stories encourage me in my own walk.

Romance fans will love this sweet, clean Christian romance.

This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
Good story with believable characters, emotions, and situations.

Wow, the burdens these two carry!
He is insecure and distrustful of women because of the actions of his ex.
She is insecure and distrustful of her own decision-making because of previous poor choices.

Both are actively trying to get better, to do better... but that leads them on a very bumpy road to their HEA.

Silas and Lucy's love was strong enough to give them the courage to build their relationship even though both had to overcome bad experiences with their exes. I suggest you read this sweet romance and see what Silas and Lucy go through to get their HEA.

I recommend this story for older teens and adults.

I was given an ARC of this book from the author but this review is my honest opinion, given voluntarily.

Silas is her grumpy boss, Lucy is the hardest worker he has, both have reasons to not like each other. Until his grumpiness pushes her too far - only then do they start to really see and listen.

Love, forgiveness, growth, and a trust in God make this story stand out from others. I loved this book!

I love that this is an inspirational story, love the depth and emotion that is written and felt as I read the story, one that makes me want to read more in the series, more by this author.

This was such an excellent book. I cried with the characters. I loved Emily faith filled book and how she talked about God as a friend because He is the best friend you can ever have. I loved how Silas & Lucy both went through tribulations but love from Christ and each other saw them through. I received this book as an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntary.

Wonderful story. Silas and Lucy just draw you right into their feelings and emotions. Both are burdened by decisions from their pasts. Trying to do better by putting more faith in God makes this an emotional, heartwarming read. Very enjoyable and couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait for Joy’s story.

Once you start you will not be able to put it down, so plan accordingly.

This is creative writing at its best - well paced situations with interesting characters who think and feel deeply as they face their challenges with integrity. The blurbs and other reviews tell enough of the story, so I will not repeat. Inspiring not preachy.

I received an ARC with no strings attached. This is my honest review. I look forward to more from this gifted author.

Silas doesn't like women and that includes his personal assistant. He is surprised to realize she is the best assistant he has ever had. Lucy doesn't trust herself and does nothing but complain about Silas her work acholic boss. This is a clean, humorous romance with realistic characters and held my interest. Thanks to the author for my ARC. PS Wait until you read about their former loves.

Forever Yours

This book took a little but of time to figure out how it would finish in the end! I loved the characters in the story and all the ups and downs they went through to finally find true love, with God's help! I also loved that they both loved the Lord and were ready at last to find the love of their lives with his help!

Wasn't expecting it to be so good

I was sucked into this story. Stayed up way too late reading it.

Silas and Lucy both have deep wounds to overcome. The way they share with eachother and those who love them most was beautiful.

The faith themes were great. It was a beautiful story that handled difficult situations with grace.

A Sweet Romance

This is a new author for me. The story was pleasant and I enjoyed seeing the characters work through their struggles and growing in their faith. If you enjoy faith-filled but down-to-earth romance which is clean and satisfying at the end, then give this book a try.

What a clever story! It is amazing how God can use other people in our lives to teach us very important things. Will Silas learn that all women aren't horrible? Will Lucy learn to get beyond her past mistakes and learn to trust a man? Very well done!!!
