I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoy Diane Portman-Ray’s writing and I’m blown away by her skills considering she’s an indie author. There’s quite a few spicy scenes. I liked the whole concept coming from the Bible and the characters being named Eve and Lucifer. No, this book isn’t religious at all it’s just character names. Unfortunately, the characters themselves did not sit right with me.
Lucifer is rich, obsessive man that 1) falls head over heels in love with Eve almost instantly and 2) has stalker like tendencies. He would get her private medical information behind her back, would show up out the blue and continue to send her random gifts without her ever giving him the address. He would also just sexually put himself onto her.
Eve is a confusing character. Multiple times throughout the book I thought she had a goal and had her mind set. I was wrong. She flip-flopped so much through this story. She kept going back on her word. Every time she would get mad at Lucifer she would quickly do a 180 with a snap of your fingers. It was hard to have any emotions towards her. One major thing that turned me off was she would get mad at him, then he would push himself onto her and she would do nothing about it?? Even though in her head it seemed like she was against??? She confused me on way too many levels..
It’s kind of hard to tell both of their maturity levels too. You think one time they’re acting their age immature, and then the next time they’re acting like they’re five years old. There is just so much toxicity between the both of them. They’re trying to overrule each other, there seems to be no communication skills (which is a huge red flag for me) - and if there was any one or the other completely lets it go over their heads like nothing was said.
