It's been six months since Lilly Hooper reunited with her family, friends, and magic. The Arcane Realm offers freedom and safety for all the witches who are rebuilding their lives and healing.
But things are not as straightforward or as easy as they all hoped they would be.
The wounds of the past still linger, and Lilly isn't the only one struggling to forget the blood-soaked roads that led them to their new haven.
Somewhere in their new home, forces are stirring. Forces that refuse to let the past stay in the past.
But with her friends and family by her side, Lilly is ready to face whatever may come next.
It can't be any worse than what she's faced before... right?
This is a novella and follows on from the third instalment of The Last Witch. It is a dark, paranormal fantasy romance. Not intended for those under the age of 18.
MJ Lawrie has always had a love for storytelling. Formerly a film student, she started writing her debut series, The Last Witch, shortly after the birth of her first baby. Driven mad by the boredom of nap times and avoiding housework at all costs, she decided to finally get to work on her lifelong dream of writing a book. A true lover of fantasy, dark romance and thriller fiction, she's combined the three and poured her unusual imagination into the creation of characters that you love to hate and hate to love.
I was so lucky to be given an ARC to read & review 😍
It was so much fun coming back to all of the characters & seeing snippets of their lives after the last book. This was the perfect mix of comfort, having that typical novella feel of coming home, and in true MJL fashion it does not disappoint on the dark & twisted moments
If you loved The Last Witch series, you're going to absolutely adore this ❤️
Oh man. As per usual I was on the edge of my seat with Lily and the gang. Even though it's been a while since I read books 1-3 it came flooding back when reading this novella. I cannot wait for the next installment. Praise to MJ Lawrie - I love your books
As much as I enjoyed The Last Witch trilogy this just didn't do it as much for me. I was happy with how things ended in book 3 and feel like continuing the story may just be dragging things out. It wasn't terrible, it just felt stale for me.
I have missed the characters from The Last Witch trilogy so much — being one of my favourite series I've just been dying for more!
This gave me a glimpse into the world after the events of the last trilogy, let us catch up with our old friends (those who survived, that is!) and gave us SO MUCH MORE to play around our head!
I absolutely love, love, LOVE, the new magical turn this book took (I won't spoil but just, omg 😍) and the return of some characters that just had me absolutely melting 🥺 and others that I definitely would have happily punched in the face.
The ending too, ahhhh! MJ never fails to leave us hanging and honestly I am SO excited to see what's in store for the future of these characters!
This wasn't nearly as reassuring as I had hoped it would be! I was hoping for an extended epilogue with some drama, but it is a set up for another series with more trauma and honestly, I don't think I can face that!
It's gripping, as with the rest of the series, so I rated it as it should be, as it is brilliant. But I just want them all to have some peace! There was no resolution to poor Lilly's nightmares. We know she gets some hope from Ava, but there is too much left open! I need some happy. I'm going to go read a brainless smutty sunshine book now!
I’m obsessed! This series as a whole is incredible, and I don’t think I am able to even find the words to truly emphasise the love i have for it.
It was a great ending to the trilogy. It leaves the door open to more which I’m so excited about. I will forever love Lilly and Gabriel and they are potentially one of my most favourite MC’s of all time.
M J Lawrie just has her way of keeping you in suspense. Her storytelling is gripping and makes you wanting more, and I am really excited to jump into her other books.
I wanted to enjoy this novella, but after reading the series it just felt like our girl Lilly couldn't catch a break.
I understand that this helps set up the next installment in the series or set up for its own series but like, can no one catch a damn break? Talk about intergenerational trauma!
I also felt like one of the budding relationships felt thrown in, we've never seen these two characters interact on a level in the series that could bring them together now.
I absolutely loved this story. I first read it when it was released on Kindle and revisiting the characters from The Last Witch trilogy was pure joy back then. Listening to it on audiobook narrated by the wonderful Amy Putt just made it that little bit more wonderful. I swear that I am obsessed with this series snd will definitely revisit it again sometime soon, especially knowing that Callie has her own story coming up. Pure magic!
I have read all of this series of books - probably should have left review for all of them. This series of books is truly amazing they're well written and extremely emotional it breaks your heart time and again 💔 😢 I am looking forward to thr next ones - defiantly try her other books I've only read the fae one but it to was exception
I was so excited to pick up this book, and it did not disappoint! Seeing Lilly adjust to the arcane world is exactly what I wanted for this series. It was so wholesome and also terrifying. This book was absolutely divine✨️✨️
I wish it was longer, but it makes me so much more excited for Callies story Beyond the Veil!!!
MJ Lawrie really loves the “happy” ending of the FMC torturing those who have done them wrong. No complaints from me! Leaves you feeling totally satisfied, even if you know it’s morally wrong. No “forgive and forget” here.
Can’t wait to for the next book to come out! It will be super interesting to look through Callie’s eyes.

I absolutely loved this series. It's a take at the witches that I have not seen before. Each of the books definitely gets better as it progresses. FMC and MMac have great chemistry. The story is full of twists and turns, and although some of them are predictable, others I did not see coming. Enjoy!
This was a great little fix for my obsession with these characters. There was such a good story line to this which I wasn’t expecting from a short novella and the ending 😲. It’s everything you could want after the trilogy 😍
I have been waiting for this book... I wanted to know what happened after the first 3, to wrap the story up, I just didn't want it to end how it did in book 3, this wrapped it up beautifully, and can't wait for the next book
This series hooked me from the beginning and I couldn't and didn't want to stop reading. It's dark and upsetting at times, but I had to know what would happen next. Waiting impatiently for what comes next.
Fantastic series loved every moment recommend to everyone who likes a bit of romance magic dark people and monstrous things that really shouldn’t happen this will not disappoint xxx
I have really enjoyed reading all the books about magic that I bought . This was as good as any before it . An arcane witch is an amazing witch . Good reading thanks.
I thought it was nice to see more of what happened after the way volume three ended, I've really enjoyed this whole series and I know for a fact I'll definitely be one I like to re-read too.
Loved being back in this world with our characters but it just seemed half assed. If it was setting up/continuing then it needed the care and detail the first 3 books had.
