Indigo B&B #4

Indigo: Storm

Rate this book
In the heart of a storm, Violet is struck by love.

Violet’s passion is storm chasing, but she spends most of her year teaching students at the local college all about the science behind the weather. As another storm season begins, her star student, Lando, is invited along by Violet’s team member Diane. Violet, however, is determined that this is the year she will finally let Diane know how she feels.

Lando hasn't had the easiest life growing up, and as the semester comes to an end with the death of her grandmother, the loss of financial support, her last hope is an internship for storm chasing. Without it, she has no opportunities for the career of her dreams. When Diane offers her a position on her team, Lando jumps without asking questions. What she doesn't expect is for the teacher she has admired for the last two years to suddenly hate her, the team to be dysfunctional, and the dream to turn into a nightmare.

With their futures hanging by a thread, both Lando and Violet must find the eye of the tornado.

This slow burn butch/femme lesbian romance is full of angst and drama, and will no doubt be a perfect read for a stormy night.

I don’t think there could be a better title for this book than this one. It’s not only that we get to read about many storms in a very detailed way, the story itself also contains many storms between the characters. I don‘t think there is a time in the book where the story slows down, if it does then more at the end of the book.

Before that we get to witness Violet doing what she loves the most which is chasing and analising storms. As usual her best friend Diane is right there with her and you would think she is there to support her. Especially because Violet is secretly in love with her for many years and there just has to be something about her. What we get to see is a very complex character who is difficult to read.

When Diane hires Lando as an additional help, Violet isn’t very happy about that. It makes things more difficult for her. For once because she is her former student but also because Violet hoped for lots of alone time with Violet. Again there isn’t much slowing down in the story and in the end there is actually lots of tension between Diane and Violet. And I don’t mean sexual tension. Lol

Lando is more of a buffer for quite some time which also leads to Violet seeing her in a different light. Of course also this brings more complications to the whole story. I mean it couldn’t get boring right? Lol I definitely became a huge Lando fan during the whole book and also developed a tiny crush on her. She is just so sweet, but don’t tell her that, I don’t think she would agree. But it was just her whole story touched my heart and there is a lot of story for her.

Aside from all the human storms, there are these huge nature storms that kept me on the edge of my seat every time they went into one. I just loved that part.

What I also loved was to come back to Indigo and see Elli again. This is always one of the highlights for me in every Indigo book. 🥰 So and now I better stop and let you read the story for yourself. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

I received an advance reader copy from the author and voluntarily leaving a review.

‘Indigo: Storm’ is possibly my favourite book of the series so far because I really have a soft spot for a slow burn love story.
I was hooked instantly because the premise is so original especially by focusing on a complicated dynamic of the three MCs; Violet, Lando and Diane. The way that each character changes, some for the worse, as the three of them go storm chasing was so well crafted and really is testament to Smith’s ability to be detailed enough to make a scene wonderfully vivid. I really find that the books within this series are so addictive it’s hard not to read them in one sitting but especially this instalment because of the intense backdrop that has been constructed.
Also the book nerd in me loved the comparison between the world of natural storms and the emotional storms we construct within our relationships. There are plenty of nods towards the previous books and characters but it is worth saying that all of the stories can be read as standalones.
For me this was the most powerful and dynamic of all of the ‘Indigo’ series and I’m definitely excited to see what is next from this brilliant go-to writer.

Another great addition to the Indigo world. Violet lives her life to chase storms. When she is not chasing, she is teaching. Violet has been in love with her chasing partner for years. Diana is a cruel person who just thinks about herself. Lando is a student of Violet. She gets invited on the next chasing season by Diana. With no input from Violet. What results is a woman made storm. I enjoyed this book very much. Adrian has a wo derful way of writing. Just pulls you in for the ride. Enjoy

Indigo: Storm. Stormy for sure. Book 4 in the series is an adventure story about stormchasing. The scenes are so real you fell the wind blowing. Well written characters and some serious conversations with Eli from the Indigo B&B. 2 characters from book 2 come in the story when staying at the Indigo B&B. The book got my interest from the start and in no time I finished it. I got an ARC for an review, thanks Adrian.

Oh my, I am loving this series.
This book is just sooo well written. I loved the storm chasing descriptions, they really set a pace as I read them and got the adrenaline going as if it was really going on creating such a page turner I really could not put the book down. The whole story was so believable and the characters reactions were so real to life. These are all stand alone books but are better read as a series.

Adrian Smith has written another slow burn romance with jealousy, lots of angst, drama, and three main characters!

You have Violet, who loves storm chasing and teaches students during the year the science behind the weather. She is in love with Diane and has decided that this year she will tell her how she feels.

There’s Lando, who is a star pupil in the class. Her grandmother just died and with that, her financial support. Lando needs an internship with a storm chaser to have any hope of continuing her education and reaching her dreams for the future.

Then there is Diane. Diane chases storms with Violet. Diane has a lot of hidden secrets and sometimes takes things into her own hands.

As a storm develops and they get ready for storm chasing, Diane invites Lando to join their team without telling Violet. The day they are packed and get ready to leave, Lando shows up and Diane tells Violet that she invited Lando to join their team. Violet is not happy!

They set out and drive toward the location that Violet has chosen, with computer information of where the best chance of catching the storms. Diane had made reservations at a motel in that area. Violet is not happy when she finds out that she is sharing a room with Lando, and Diane has her own room alone! Lando can’t understand what happened that has Violet angry and cold towards to her. It wasn’t that way in the classroom!

Violet has been watching the developments on the computer and tells Diane it’s time to load the equipment and set out.

As they reach the area, they are amid the storm developing, with Diane driving. Violet and Lando jump out and run to the area the storm is fixing to touch down with equipment that hopefully will be drawn up in the storm. This equipment will allow them to study the storm.

You can almost hear the wind blowing and the trees snapping, as you read. You will enjoy the tense times, confusion of Lando, and how hard she works to impress Violet. Follow the storm, the problems on the team, and the tension between the three of them.

I received an ARC in return for leaving an honest review.

Stars: 5 Stars
Format: Audiobook
Narrator: Quinn Riley
Series: Indigo B&B Book 4
Steam Level: Steamy

I read this for the I Heart Sapphic 2025 Reading Challenge for the prompt Only One Bed.

Quick Thoughts:
- Age Gap AND Student/Teacher AND two Strap scenes in one book? Pretty sure Adrian J. Smith is trying to kill off her fans
- How did I never think to look for a storm chaser Romance? I’m exactly like the plethora of people who loved the movie Twister and watch The Weather Channel specials
- Diane is, hands down, the worst kind of person. Petty, manipulative, self centered, a first class jerk, selfish, and even more that I don’t have time to list. It’s understandable how Violet was manipulated to be in that friendship for so long
- The set up sounds like a love triangle but, don’t worry, it’s not
- The storm chasing scenes were so well written that it kept me on the edge of my seat as if I was watching it happen
- With every story I love Eli more and more. She really shines here in her sweet interactions with Logan
- Learning the back stories of Violet, Logan, and Diane explained so much about them without it feeling eye rolling, too on the nose, story points
- Jewel and Lea make a (very) brief appearance
- There were many times that I wanted Diane to get run over by the Hummer but none more so than at the end of their stay at Indigo
- The connection that builds between Violet and Logan progressed very naturally and hit every step to keep me fully invested in it
- I can’t stress how much it thrilled me that Violet gets away from Diane
- Loved the frank conversation Violet and Logan have about death. It was very realistic and actually wasn’t sad
- At this point I’d gleefully listen to Quinn Riley narrate old, dusty, outdated computer manuals out loud and then dry, boring sequel to it

Overall this book is probably my favorite installment of this series. It will take a lot for the last book to unseat this one. It has the perfect amount of drama, pining, danger, and happiness. Truly wonderful.

Another compelling book in the Indigo Series.

Storm Chasers, love triangle, teacher/student .. what more could you want?
Our author has done an amazing job researching the topic and it shows in her writing. She has managed to capture the tumultuous beauty of natural phenomena while giving respect to those who chase them so that they can be understood and in doing so, lives saved.

Violet and Diane, seasoned chasers with a wealth of experience are joined by Lando who, as a student, has been studying under Violet, and who has no experience in chasing but all the bravery and tenacity to be an excellent addition to the team if only Violet would pull her head out of a*** and stop being so jealous. The reason she is jealous is that she has a major love interest in Diane.

Again, our author has written very strong, clear, and deep characters. I loved Lando, and eventually, Violet, and equally loved to dislike Diane which, in itself, by raising such visceral reactions in a reader proves how successfully the characters were written.

The story was an amazing ride through the dangers and beauty that storm chasers experience while dealing with similarly tumultuous relationships within the team.

Eli (Book 1) and the Indigo B&B provide a true balancing effect and with her wisdom and ability to cut through all the bull, becomes somewhat of a mentor for Lando and helps Violet to realize that Diane is not truly the person that Violet thought she was.

Loved it ... you will too!

This is an unique love story of two storm chasers, one a middle aged college professor, the other a young orphan college student, both have a strong passion for storm chasing and both are smart, strong willed and brave and kind. The story is well written and I am very emotional reading it, the first 70% is hard for me, the constant fighting and self doubting and the tension between MCs made me feel anxious, angry and very tense. I almost gave it up but I persisted and I am very glad that in the last 10% the story becomes more romantic and sweet. Of the storm chasing team, I can't understand Violet, who is strong and highly intelligent, kind and brave has been a doormat to her "best friend" from childhood :Diane, who is very manipulative, cold, controlling, selfish and greedy. I am glad that in the end Violet finally wakes up from her fantasy and sees the real Diane and moves on with the true love of her life, her student, regardless of the age gap. I wish the writer gives us more of the sweet romance between MCs, more interactions and let them gradually work out their problems. And what a nice friend Eli is! She is the Inn owner who goes above and beyond of her duty to help people, my ideal best friend and lover type of person I really wish I can find in real life. Thanks for a wonderful story!

Violet’s greatest passion is chasing storms, however, most of her time is spent teaching others how to do it. Her greatest desire is Diane, her long-time friend and chase partner. As another chasing season approaches, Violet takes a sabbatical to chase full time with Diane and to finally tell her that she loves her. Conflict and turmoil ensue as Diane secretly asked Lando, one of Violet’s best students, to join their team. After witnessing an uncomfortable exchange between Diane and Violet, Lando should have run the opposite direction when Diane offered her a spot on their team, but her determination to become a chaser left her undeterred from leaping at the opportunity. Diane admits that Violet is unaware of the offer, but promises to tell her before they leave. Violet becomes angry, when she learns what Diane has done, because it will make it harder to profess her love for Diane. It’s a storm chasing season on two levels.
The storm chasing scenes are exciting, and become the mirror image of the dysfunctional and stormy relationships between Diane, Violet, and Lando. Diane is the destructive twister that lays devastation and destruction on whatever path she travels. Violet’s moodiness and angst are the turbulence that adds to an already bad situation and is fickle in her interactions with Lando, who simply wants to learn to read the weather, find the storms, and get her foot into the field of chasing (she also has a bit of a thing for Violet, but doesn’t move on it in any obvious way). She does wonder why Violet would be interested in such a narcissistic person as Diane who “walks all over her”. Thankfully, once in Kansas at the Indigo Bed and Breakfast, Lando finds a friend in Eli, who helps calm and stabilize her throughout the storms she encounters. I found Diane to be fiendishly narcissistic, and Violet was fickle, while Lando attempted to be the bridge between the two. Violet’s character, however, does go through a transformation and becomes awakened to the truth in front of her and creates a new path forward and gives herself another chance, while Diane remains completely unrepentant and unredeemable. Lando, after having had her soul crushed, gains some enlightenment, but has to go back to her home to pick up life where she left off before joining the chase team. Her ultimate belief in good and in herself, helps her to open up to new possibilities.
This book is recommended for readers who enjoy stories which include Sapphic romance, love triangles, age-gap, forbidden love (though I find that amusing since professor/student relationships are more common than one might believe), butch/femme, adventure/danger, and angst (aplenty).

Chasing love

Why is a college professor who is also a storm chaser. She has a best friend Diane, who goes with her on storm treat on storm chasing missions. Via Diana have been good friends ever since grade school advisors had a crush on Diane all the time. When they takes a sabbatical for six months to go chasing storms were there, friend Diane, Diana invites Vice student Lando to come with them. The pot revolves around how the three of them get along on the six-month sabbatical. There is a lot of tension, anger, and treachery involved in their adventures. I found the book very insightful into the emotions of all three people. The chapters revolved around the point of view of each of the three. I recommend this book for those who, like romance with storm chasing adventure.

Indigo: Storm (Indigo B&B Book 4)

Book 4 of 5: Indigo B&B

MC Violet & Lando

This was another wonderful story in the Indigo series. Violet had a love for storms.  It was her true passion. . Lando was a great character. She really cared for Violet and wanted to be her person.   They first had to handle the issue of how they met. It’s definitely a slow burn , but I did enjoy that because you get to watch the relationship between the two main characters really take shape. . I highly recommend this book!

Thank you so much to the author Adrian J. Smith for the arc! 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m really becoming a huge fan of Adrian’s. Indigo Storm is the 4th in the series and has storm chasers, storm causers (Diane) and lightening striking (Violet) when she finally awakes to the truth about Diane.
Lando in the middle of all this is the sweet calm before, during and after the storm. Enemies to livers with an age gap - yummy. Great characters and realistic depictions of storms so much that you felt caught in one yourself.

Favorite of the series

By far this one is my favorite of the series, and there is still one more. Diane is the biggest ass, which I thought from the beginning. Violet took a while but finally started figuring out herself as well as her so called friendship. Lando was the one to bring everything together. I loved the storm chasing and felt like I was there to witness the beauty of it all.

Almost didn’t continue this series because the third book was so bad. Glad I decided to keep reading because this one was good. Might have been more into the storm chasing than the random love story, but it was still good.

I love the age gap stories where their passion in the industry – the attraction of the mind, makes all other attractions and vulnerabilities that more intense. I love watching them chase storms. It's a slow burn and the author tries to make up for it at the very end. It kinda works.

Indigo storm is quite a read. There was lots of drama, jealousy and pain and all leading towards love. I also think the tittle is very perfect as there so many weather storms in this one as well as emotional storms. Lando is just a lovable character, i was rooting for her the whole time.
It is a well written story.

Readers who are more interested in big age gaps and love-hate tensions would enjoy this - I think I’m not quite the person for it! The characters were complex and the storm scenes were really vivid. The atmosphere between the main characters was really tense and ran hot and cold without much explanation. So like Lando, we the audience are thrust into the middle of a stormy dynamic between Violet and Diane (not being familiar with the series, I thought there was a lot of backstory I was missing which would have made the characters’ dynamics more clear). The age gap is also greater than the “half plus 7” guideline (41 & 23, and .) The storm details are engaging and the characters are compelling. an interesting read. (I received an ARC in exchange for a review.)
