First Comes Marriage

Rate this book
Take one CEO, one pink-haired alien, a secret marriage, vengeful aliens, unexplained deaths, and a bitter sister out for revenge, and two women’s lives will never be the same.

As CEO of MartinTech, Brynn Martin is at the top of her professional game. Her personal life is another matter, but she’s not in a hurry to break her single status. All that changes on a Tuesday morning when a bombshell is dropped.
At sixteen, Micah Legon fled her abusive family and home world of Vubloxia. Now, at twenty-nine, she’s content and settled in her life, running a cleanup business with her siblings. Then one morning, she gets a phone call that changes everything.

A chance encounter six years ago in Las Vegas at a “Meet an Alien” convention comes back to haunt both women. While Micah remembers the day with fondness, Brynn remembers nothing. After meeting again, both women come to an agreement. However, nothing is ever that simple.

Micah makes it her mission to break through Brynn’s tough exterior. Brynn makes it her mission to keep Micah at arm’s length. Nothing will stop either woman from getting what she wants. The trouble is convincing the other that her plan is the right one.

This is a really fascinating and unique story!

Our MC is a no-nonsense business woman, of an icy variety - who finds out she was married 6 years ago! To whom? An alien no less!

I adored and related a lot, to our alien love interest, Micah. She's colour, vibrance, and positivity wrapped up in a pink-haired package. Brynn the CEO of MartinTech is the complete opposite.

I have to admit to finding it a bit difficult to like Brynn at first. She's got that aloof judgy ice queen persona, where she can be very caustic in her judgements of our dear Micah, who is a cinnamon roll character, you just want to protect. But it never did come off as truly mean-spirited, thankfully. It was obviously a wall Brynn had put up to avoid intimacy, and our sweet puppy Micah leapt and bounded right over those walls!

There's a larger conspiracy going on, with aliens that exist and are 'out' and about on our planet, but some humans are hateful, just as some other aliens are more than willing to utilize the enemy of their enemies for gain. Brynn and her family and the family company are targeted, with danger creeping up for both Brynn and Micah.

I really enjoyed the unique world building here, and the history of alien Micah and her new found family on Earth. I also enjoyed the slow burn of the two love interests forming a strong foundation together.

The little details are what really stood out to me. The description of Micah's flamboyant dress sense. Brynn's internal monologue regarding her pet rat. FOOD - SO much food! There were many charming elements, and interactions that just made this a really fun and unique story, that I think should be given a chance by anyone who likes stories with a bit of an 'off kilter' vibe. Unique characters, and an alien sci-fi bent that is different from the norm.

It leaves off in a bit of a cliffhanger, with another installment to come. Which I am very excited about.

An alien and a human meet at a convention in Las Vegas and get hitched. No biggie! One gets her citizenship papers and the other goes off to continue working at the family firm with no memory as to what happened in Vegas. Off I went into this little quirky sci-fi tale.
Yes, times have changed and aliens now live among humans but not everyone is happy so there are fights, deaths and murder. Micah is a pink haired, bubbly alien who wears eye popping colored clothes and deeply loves the human family that took her in when she came to earth after escaping from her blood family. Together with her human siblings Liam and Helen, she formed a company to clean up alien messes and they are darned successful at what they do. Brynn took over as CEO at the tech company founded by her grandfather after her sister Liz was removed from that position. A cold character, Brynn is all about running the business with a steady hand. Her pet rat Winston is the perfect companion in her structured life. Maybe she'll think of love and a family down the road but not now. Yes, life is good until her perfect day is upended. When the dust settles (after the wedding is revealed) mindsets change, questions arise and dangerous events occur.
I loved Micah's personality and how she refused to conform - wearing her colorful clothes with pride. How she patiently worked on breaking down Brynn's icy exterior with warmth, adding color to her drab life. I slowly thawed to Brynn as the reasons for her coldness were disclosed. Add alien super heroes, rivals, medical experiments and treachery from blood family on both sides and the plot thickens. The storyline with some humor, angst, warmth and loyalty of found family and an ultra slow burn romance makes this book a delightful read.
With questions unanswered, we have more to learn about life changing events in Morganstown. Bring on book 2.

There was a lot going on in this story and it kept my interest through it all. The story line is fascinating and new for me. There were a lot of twists that I didn't see coming. The romance between Brynn and Micah is sweet. Micah is a force too hard to resist even for Brynn. I am so glad this is just the beginning of their story.

Micah's character is so endearing and I liked her from the start. It took me quite a while to warm up to Brynn but I guess it had everything to do with how she behaved towards Micah. Their interactions were pretty funny though, especially when Micah plows through Brynn's 'fuck off' exterior. This was fun and funny to read. I especially loved the supporting characters in Liam, Helen, Brenda and Laura. I love, love, LOVED Brenda especially... she's bloody hilarious.

Surprisingly good book…with no sex scenes yet. Can’t wait for more books in this series.

I can't wait for the second book.

We get thrown into a world, so similar to ours in many ways, but so different. Surprise marriages is one of my more appreciated tropes. Especially if one of the characters doesn't remember how it happened.

Micah was really interesting as a character. I kind of feel like we discover her personality together with Brynn. While Brynn is essentially herself throughout the whole book. There are a lot more layers to strip back in Micah's character, than in Brynn's. Which was a bit of a change from having to "melt" or "uncover" the ice-queen. But I like an ice-queen that stays frosty till the end.

While les-fic is my guilty reading pleasure, I am also a huge sci-fi fan. Needless to say, I was excited this book had an alien theme within its pages. The author sucked me into the story from the start, and I finished the book within one day. I loved the weaving in of the different alien species and their challenges with each other. Just when I thought I had figured out who was loyal to who, I was thrown the curveball! I could hardly put it down! The story line will draw you in as well. I can hardly wait for the next book to find out where Bryn and Micah’s story continues not to mention their friends and family, Liam, Helen, Laura and Brenda. Highly recommend you give this a read!

My review of the book First Comes Marriage.
Rating: 5, excellent.
This book took me quite by surprise. It's a genre I don't usually go for (not a big fan of aliens) so I went in with average expectations. But phew! I absolutely loved it. Could not put it down. It's well-written, full of action and moments that make you smile or laugh out loud. Dare I say, I think I might have found a new favourite fictional ice queen in Brynn Martin! And Micah is so badass and sweet and cute all at once. Long story short: read this book, you won't regret it. I can't wait for the next book!

What happens in Vegas doesn't mean it stays in Vegas. Aliens from different planets are living on earth. Some have different powers and some are heroes and some are baddies. This book was a fun read. Imagine you find out you married an alien in Vegas six years ago but don't remember. These two mains are opposites attracts. Brynn Martin runs her own company and is a no-nonsense and has no time for romance. Pink haired Alien Micah is just the opposite. She is fun loving, dresses outlandishly, and is determined to break through Brynn's hard shell. Lots of action and a sweet romance.

Far better than anticipated

I'm not an alien book person. I was shocked at how much I liked this book.
It's funny, the characters are goofy, but loyal and smart. They could be real. Integrating human culture with alien presence and make it not feel fake was unexpected even once I realized this was an alien book. I kept reading and was involved in the story unexpectedly. Well done!

3/5 stars

This is definitely a lot going on in this story. We have an earth that has embraced (kind of) aliens from all over the galaxy, medical experimentation, evil family members and a whole dynamic cast of characters. It did sometimes feel a little bit too much and jumbled, but it was also definitely a fun, unique and exciting read.

3.5* Quirky

I think I saw a review of this book calling it quirky. I agree with that observation and add imaginative to the mix. While I did enjoy the story, it could have used some content editing. It was rather longer than necessary. It was a fun read though.
