Shan L. Scott is an Ipswich, QLD, Australian writer with a penchant for the dark and macabre. Her interest in all things supernatural and her natural instincts in deftly weaving it into a tale makes her storytelling riveting. Her vast life experience can be perceived in the mature themes of her books, and the manner in which she approaches and explores often dark, yet extremely sensitive topics is a testament to her insight and innate desire for exposing the truth of a situation.
Shan has a diverse background, from a career in Electronics in Central Queensland’s Coal mining belt, to Quality Assurance and bridge building in Brisbane, she has always enjoyed an intellectual challenge. She studied a B Digital Design at Griffith University and BA Archaeology at USQ and also had a brief stint at Medical School.
Shan’s passion is for the arts, however. She enjoys writing, designing digital artwork, playing classical guitar and building flatpack furniture (there’s an art to putting anything from IKEA together!) She has two cats who love to sleep close by while she is writing, and Shan can often be seen rubbing a soft tummy while pondering what to write next.
The Second Sight Trilogy is a modern day tale which begins with a dark supernatural romantic drama, and increases in intensity and foreboding with each book, culminating in a nerve-wracking horror story by the final instalment.
I'm not typically a dark style book reader but having read other books by Shan L Scott, I knew I'd enjoy the writing and I wasn't disappointed.
From the POV of Brian, the author unapologetically delves into the darkness of the character without at all romanticising it. There is a feeling of foreboding that overtakes you as you read, and that's when you know just how deep you've gone into this book!
I enjoyed the way the author managed to convert me from judging the actions of the MC to feeling involved in them, even while feeling shocked at their actions.
If you're looking for a dark read that you can sink your teeth into, I encourage you to check it out.
