A temperamental labyrinth, a deranged siren, and hundreds of howling cult members are out for blood—Penny’s blood. Which is a problem because she’s using all she’s got. Penny Post is—finally!—getting the hang of this whole myth agent gig, and she’s this close to affording a killer attorney to help get custody of her cat. On the downside, her boss is out of his mind if he thinks she’s qualified to apprehend the cult leader of the Sirentologists, a delusional siren who has her hooks in a growing number of the city’s men.
Good As a woman, she’s immune to the siren’s caterwauling.
Bad Luke Remis, Penny’s first love and current co-agent, is the newest member of the siren’s cult.
Worse Guess what the siren eats. Go on, guess. (It’s people, which means Luke is on the menu.)
When Penny’s one shot at apprehending the siren goes sideways, the Sirentologists decide she’s public enemy numero uno. They’ve got pitchforks and picket signs and a whole lot of toilet paper, and they intend to use them.
Complicating matters—like Penny needs that—is the goddess of love and beauty herself. Furious that the siren has the audacity to amass worshippers, Aphrodite slams Salem, Oregon with an unusual curse, and soon the city is falling out of love.
Penny has two days to save the city and kick the siren back to her own world, otherwise the unthinkable will she’ll be on the hook for escorting Luke Remis’s terrifying grandmother to church this Sunday.
This laugh-out-loud mystery series is for readers who enjoy witty banter, kooky families, Greek Mythology, and clashing cultures. SIRENTOLOGY comes smothered in tzatziki sauce and served with a Pacific Northwestern IPA.
2022 bk 230. Oh my, a siren has moved to Salem and enchanted most of the male population. Problem is, her followers become her meals. When Luke, Penny's dad, and Penny's grandfather fall under her snare - it is more than one person can stand. Then Aphrodite steps in and even more chaos reigns. In two days time Penny must solve the problem, rid Salem of the siren, or face the unenviable job of escorting Luke's grandmother to church. One gets the feeling that Penny would rather be turned back into a goat than do that. One of my favorite lines from the book - Penny asks Aphrodite for advice and the response is: always wear clean panties when crossing the street! Shades of my mother and grandmother, hmm, I wonder, nah......
This is third in the Penny Post Myth Agent series, and I think I enjoyed it the most of this series. I also enjoy several other series by this author. Her series always have a Greek element, humor, and often some sort of supernatural/paranormal element. This series involves the world of mythological beings intruding on our world, and is set in Salem, OR. In this case a siren comes to Salem and enchants pretty much all the males within earshot with her songs (which turn out to actually be pretty awful to females). Penny is supposed to get the siren back to the mythological world, but in the process she upsets Aphrodite, who takes all love away from Salem, leaving the divorce lawyers with plenty of work, but discord everywhere. She also runs across a book loving centaur who just wants to stay in the public library and read. After a lot of failed efforts, she eventually gets things fairly much back to normal. A quick and entertaining read.
I absolutely adore all of this wonderful humans books! They are hilarious, sometimes sweet and out right nuts. I only wish there were more! The only down side was all the grammar and editing issues. I don't think many of the other books were this bad. I would love beyond words to know how to become a proof reader. Regardless of that read this book. I'm patiently waiting for Penny to get over herself and let herself fully love Luke again.
Alex A King always write hilarious books that keep you laughing and rooting for her characters from beginning to end. This book is no different. It's a great read and I recommend all her books.
