It’s been one year since a comet hit Earth and blotted out the sun. Now, the world is a dark, cold landscape ruled by vampires.
In the British countryside, a band of survivors has formed a resistance in the fallout shelter of a medieval castle. Among them is Darcy, a young, headstrong fighter waiting for the chance to prove she can be on the front lines. But when that opportunity comes, Darcy will come face to face with the true horrors of this new world.
From creator TRAVIS BEACHAM (Pacific Rim) and artist STEPHEN GREEN (Hellboy and the BPRD) comes the prequel to the hit Audible Original.
Having listened to the audio book first, I was able to place voices to characters here. I enjoyed this prequel about Darcy.
I'd say this story takes place about two years before the audio book. Here we learn how Darcy came to embrace the truth of the world and let go of her past. In doing so, she takes a few steps closer to becoming the kick-a$$ heroine of Impact Winter.
The artwork here is really good. The color work is fantastic.
After reading this I highly recommend listening to the audio book on Audible or Spotify.
I can't wait for more opportunities to dive into this world.
This is like a prequel to the superhit Audible series that I am listening to currently. This is an extremely enjoyable story which is like Year One or origin of Darcy Dunraven. The Art is absolutely fabulous brings out the entire world in the most comprehensive manner.
Soon to be a Netflix series directed by Francis Lawrence (Hunger Games).
I'm always a sucker for vampire stories. (Sorry I couldn't help myself.) They were my first dip into the waters of horror. This one-shot was engaging from page one. Told in a flashback Darcy is part of the new generation that is encased in forever night due to the impact of a comet. She's sad, fierce to protect her sister, has an overwhelming urge to prove herself and is pissed that every thing she knew from family to the sun is gone. I know the novel is on audible and I can't wait to listen, but the art is amazing in this title. It's the same artist as BRPD and Hellboy, so it's a creepy angular style that I'm already familiar with. I really hope Travis Beacham and Stephen Green collaborate again with the rest of the story. It left with so many questions and I would love to see Darcy's path thwhat the vampires think her potential is and what she has to do to survive.
Short, sweet and to the point. I have not listened to the audible, nor am I likely to, but this tale stands all on its own. Yes, it leaves a couple of threads hanging (tying in to the aforementioned audible, I imagine), but nothing that makes it feel incomplete.
Good storytelling, good art, consistent vampire story. Sure, it's nothing new, but it's the execution that counts.
Standard Old Fare No Big Deal, I've Read This Plot Point In Other Stories Before, I'm 50 Years Old, So I've Read This Before In Some Other Storyline.... Hahaha
This is basically a short prequel to the excellent Audible series Impact Winter, introducing the main characters in the series and giving some foreshadowing. The story itself is quite simplistic but enjoyable.
Loved getting a glimpse of an early Darcy. This was a short but entertaining read with great artwork and creepy vibes. If you love the impact winter audiobooks then you will enjoy this graphic novel.
