Since birth, Landon and Alexa have been told they will be together as true mates. There is no fighting destiny in the pack.
But they hate each other. As kids, they couldn’t stand each other, but later, when the time comes for their mating, the pack wants them to finally come together. For three years, they ignore one another, never acting on nature’s gift. When one of Landon’s friends attacks Alexa, their alpha has no choice but to impose a punishment. They are to be bound together until they realize they are mates. Forced to live side by side, they are denied privacy from the other.
The only problem is that they don’t truly hate each other. Spending time as a couple isn’t a punishment. Constantly being together, they can’t fight their needs. They want to mate, to love. They want it all. But is it too late to finally take each other?
Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound. She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.
Hmmm, this was okay, I think? 😅 Not sure what to rate it, so I'm just gonna leave it as "Read".
I felt like Landon (21) and Alexa's (21) "hating each other" period dragged on way longer than it should have. They spent over half of the novella caught up in that phase, and tbh, I feel like they wasted a lot of time not really embracing their reality. I somehow understood that they were tired of everyone pushing the idea of being "true mates" on them, but I really think they shouldn't have fought against it for so long.
And, when they finally realize that they don't actually hate each other, readers only get a brief moment of them really spending time together. Idk, maybe I just wanted more time for them to get to know one another and to see them truly show their affection towards each other. Tbf, they did this, but it wasn't enough for me.
Then we had an OW wannabe who wanted to get in the way of these two. She really is a piece of something, and I just wish she got her comeuppance on-page. The way she tried to hurt not just the MC's relationship but also her sibling was just so despicable. I feel like she got away from everything unscathed, and that was not the kind of punishment I was imagining for her. 🥲 I even expected some sort of punishment for those involved in her plan, but just like her, they all got away unharmed. It's like this pack is very lenient toward those who have committed any wrongdoings. 🤷♀️
Anyway, moving back to the MCs. I ended up liking them at the end because, despite their constant bickering and fake hating each other, they really do make a great pair. It also helps that they stayed true to one another even after initially pushing their connection away. I don't read many shapeshifter stories, but this is the kind of commitment I had in mind when the MCs are "true mates".
Overall, it was decent. I found it entertaining, and by the end of the book, I wished it had been a bit longer because I still wanted more of the MCs. 🤭
Book info: - Novella - Shapeshifters (Werewolves) - True Mates - Hate to Love (is it tho?) - No cheating, real OM/OW, separation - Forced proximity - Dual V! 💖 - HEA (5 yrs later, still together with a son and baby OTW)
Notes: - OM. Not really. It was mentioned that his two "friends" have been trying to hit on Alexa (since teens), and this behavior continues to the present day. But she has never shown any interest in them. - OW. A woman in their pack is OTT obsessed with Landon and did cause trouble in the story. He said he never led her on and was clear with her from the start that he's not interested in her. He said that whenever she tried to do anything like kiss or touch him, it made his skin crawl. But, over the years (since HS), he still hangs out with her because she's also friends with his two friends, so…She also attacked and tried to kill Alexa during a full moon. That's how deranged she is over making Landon hers.

I loved this book by the fabulous Sam Crescent! Landon and Alexa have never gotten along. They were born on the same day at the same time and everyone in the pack believed they were true mates. Growing up, Landon would pull on Alexa's hair, and Alexa would give it right back to him.
To make Alexa jealous, as well as to keep other women away from him, he allows the attention of Cheryl. Normally I hate OW drama but Logan genuinely didn't care for her and did nothing to encourage her. This story revolves around Landon and Alexa discovering they're mates and not "hate mates". It also shows them both overcoming the drama caused by Cheryl.
This book reminds me of those Wattpad stories I used to read. It gave me butterflies. I felt like I was the one falling in love! I recommend it, five stars!

This story was so lacking. The usual SC writing style easily draws you into the story but once you realize that the plot is basically trivial you get bored. It’s not worth reading. The main couple are born to be together. They are raised to believe in fated mates and yet, they literally refuse/reject each other out of sheer contrariness. They didn’t like that it wasn’t their “choice” to be together.
So, if you (the main characters, that is), believe it’s okay for everyone else to get fated mates then why would you (again the main couple), find it wrong for yourself?? No one poses this question to the main couple any where in this book. It’s never addressed at all why this would even be a thought in their heads if they believe in fated mates as a rule to begin with. It’s literally the most lamest plot conflict I’ve ever read.
And as for the true OM & OW enemies, they NEVER get their comeuppance in this book. It simply gets told to the reader that they would be handled and nothing more. Basically, nothing to read here.
Overall Opinion : Alexa and Landon never saw eye to eye on things. Their whole family knew that they were destined to be mates but the hate between them always made things go bad. When the time to be mates finally came , what everyone said came true. They were mates. But being mates did not erase the years of bullying and pain they both had done to each other.
But there was no choice. Their family was forcing them to be together and after a few forced encounters , they realized that being together might not be that much of a bad thing.
3.5 stars--HATE MATES is the sixteenth instalment in Sam Crescent’s contemporary, adult THE ALPHA SHIFTER COLLECTION erotic, paranormal, romance series. This is alpha heir Landon Gorman, and Alexa Coin’s story line. HATE MATES can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Landon is the son of Gorman Pack alpha Marcel and Gertie Gorman, and Alexa is the daughter of Marcel’s second in command Dan and Penelope Coin.
Told from third person perspective HATE MATES follows the tempestuous relationship between Landon Gorman, and Alexa Coin. Born hours apart to the Pack alpha and his second in command, Landon and Alexa were rumored to be mates, a myth passed down from generation to generation but within a few years, the hatred between Landon and Alexa grew exponentially, to the point someone else would lay claim to the heir in waiting. Tired with their children’s refusal to accept one another as their mate, placing both Landon and Alexa in danger, both sets of parents, physically handcuffed our couple together in the hopes of forcing what nature was too blind to see. What ensues is the rebuilding friendship to lovers relationship between Alexa and Landon, and the potential fallout as Alexa is targeted, threatening the future between our leading couple.
Throughout their lives Landon and Alexa’s barely veiled hatred for one another is witnessed by the members of the Gorman Pack, and in the hopes of one day becoming the Alpha’s mate, someone else set her sights on our story line hero, thus pushing Alexa out of his life but refusing to accept one another as mates, weakened Landon Gorman, and placed a target on the back of the wolf he would love. Fated mates is a part of shifter life but both Landon and Alexa were refusing to accept the truth, placing everyone in danger including themselves. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters include Landon’s father Pack Alpha Marcel and Gertie Gorman; Alexa’s parents Dan and Penelope Coin; Landon’s best friends Drew and Ben, as well as Landon’s wannabe girlfriend and mate Cheryl.
HATES MATES is a story of rejection and obsession, family and relationships, friendships and hatred, betrayal and revenge. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the characters are desperate and immature; the romance is aggressive and seductive.
My Review: Hate Mates by Sam Crescent was an enemies to lovers romance. It very much read like a NA hate you to love you story.
L and A were destined to be mated. Unfortunately, they fought against what was to be. By doing so, this left them both open to pain and suffering, a relationship challenge, and extreme doubts about the feelings that their partner had.
The overall conflict in this story was minimal. The greatest friction existed as a result of their own individual choices. Still, notable growth happened with each person, which led to them being able to build towards a healthy relationship.
My Final Say: This was a quick read. It starts off with mild wanting/longing and moves into major passion/chemistry.
Rating: 3/5 Recommend: Yes Audience: A
Appreciation is extended to the author, to the publisher, and to NetGalley, who provided a digital ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review. The words shared here are my own.
"Born at exactly the same time, within the same pack, it meant they were fated mates. They knew all their lives that they were destined to be together, but they had fought it." -Safety details: -Om/Ow drama: -Age details: -Memorable detail: -Dual pov -Epilogue:
Found my new favorite Shifter book. It has many tropes I love: -Both wolf shapeshifters (Not the overused human-wolf pair concept) -Hero son of alpha(loyal, dutiful, loving, honest) -Strong heroine but also kind, sweet, compassionate. -Fated mates who decide to remain chaste despite the fact that non fated couples can have sex. -Not instaunbelievable. They are enemies, then become friends, then lovers, then mates. -MCs who are bad liars.
Alexa and Landon fiiiiiiiiiiight their feelings for 20 years, refusing to accept the rumors/theory that they’re fated mates. But once they turn 18, that fight makes them suffer internally and physically until the pack forces them together… -PNR, all play time is in their human form -enemies-to-lovers -forced proximity -OW (other woman) drama. NO CHEATING, but OW tries for years to stake her claim on Landon and bullies Alexa. -70% slow burn, 3/5 🌶🌶🌶
°Each other's first and only °Mainly dual POV °Hate to love °Both are 21 when they get together °Beta immature hero °Immature heroine °OW - a girl from their pack who was obsessed with the H caused so much drama (at one point she tried to kill the h) but the hero never cared for her °No separation °No cheating or scenes with OP °Epilogue: 5 years later
It was not bad. It wasn't cruel as I was afraid it would be. The H was loyal at least. Wow, the review sounds that the story had the bare minimum but it's true, you never know what you'll get.
Good that the H didn’t have any type of relationship with the ow before he got together with the h despite what it looked like in the start. He could have been more alpha. He gave out v beta cowardly vibes.

The latest edition to Sam Crescent's Shifter series is unfortunately nothing new for an author such as Crescent. The author keeps up with the hate-to-love and curvy heroine but falls flat compared to other books in the series. The romance lacking despite the troupe of fated mates is introduced. We read about the hate, and the rejection, but there is no groveling as this troupe does, no romance, and the characters feel empty. Ultimately this was a disappointing read from a beloved author.
I did enjoy this story and I loved that it was filled with tension between the two main characters. The storyline was good and I liked all the secondary characters like both pairs of parents. I liked that it started with the POV of their parents, which in turn gave you a glimpse into the main characters when they were younger which really helps develop the backstory. And I did like how the start of their grown up story started... with them finally finding out that their parents were correct and they were mates. I liked that the author explained in a way as to why they felt the need to fight it, due to the fact that growing up it was kind of pushed onto them and were always told they were going to be mates made them resent it as its was all their lives seemed to be about. I liked the added drama with the make characters friends and the also with the other woman (but it's all explained by the male so not really any major OW issues, as far as thinking he was some kind of cheater) and I liked how this drama impacted the storyline and made the direction of the story change. I think for me though, I wasn't a fan of the rate of change between them, now that they were forced together. It kind of made their earlier disagreements and interactions seen kind of redundant for me, as if just being around each other suddenly changes their actual personalities and the way they see each other, when they had already known each other their whole lives. I did like the ending though, and how good it became when they finally began to actually work of their mating, I also found their intimacy a bit strange hear and I think that's because of how that happened, it didn't come across as overly natural to me, it didn't really feel romantic either or have that heated element between them. The ending, as I said, made up for the weirdness and I loved the claiming scene when it came to the female finally staking her claim. I also enjoyed their ending but I felt that even though the horrible female wolf got what she deserved, that his friend that helped her for his own game wasn't mentioned whether he got any punishment or the main male character unfriended him, so that was something that kind of bugged me. However, as a whole it really wasn't that big of a deal, only when I actually read that part. I cannot wait to see what comes next with this wolf shifter series as I'm rarely disappointed!!.
Eh, I've not had a great experience with this author and thought I'd give em another shot.
This particular story sounded a little intriguing and being a fan of paranormal and shifters books I gave it a try.
Tbh, it was a little too silly for me. The premise with them being handcuffed wasn't anything like I expected and that wasn't necessarily a good thing. More than anything this read like a very juvenile new adult romance of some kind.
That for me was what ruined the book for me. I tried to push through but nothing changed. For twenty-one year olds the both acted childish. More so they were both emotionally immature.
That was a huge disappointment. Watching two young adults stubbornly pretend to hate one another (when neither could remember why they did it explain their supposed dislike of one another) despite being mates. To be cruel to one another and then act like snotty children when they were forced to be around one another. To secretly want to be with them but hiding their feelings BECAUSE FEELINGS ARE SCARY. 🤣
The biggest disappointment for me might've been the hero though. I was expecting this sort of assertive dominant personality because hello! He was a future alpha but he acted, thought and spoke like a socially awkward teenager. Ick.
Super boring all around and weirdly chaste as well.
Landon and Alexa, the lead characters, are wolf shifters, born on the same day in the same pack, which indicated they were true/fated mates but everyone pushed the idea so hard that they rebelled from a very young age.
Now young adults, they can’t stand to interact with each other, though they are drawn to each other’s location, and there are starting to be other physical side effects. Frustrated, their clan orders them handcuffed together until they sort themselves out. As they begin to negotiate a relationship, they also need to manage a desperate female wolf’s attempt to claim Landon for herself.
This novella is mainly dual POV with some secondary character POV, well written, and a fast moving, interesting, forced proximity, enemies to lovers tale. I genuinely felt that this story could have done with being longer, that there was more detail that could have been included, but it was still a very enjoyable read. The lead character and relationship development was obviously significant and the interactions were lovely.

I love when we get new books in the alpha collection. Landon and Alexa have been told since birth that they're destined to be together, they're mates. However, being told constantly who you're going to end up with and being forced in close proximity has turned any kind of feelings of like into hate for both Landon and Alexa. They rebel and fight every time they're around each other. The pack even has a nickname for the two of them "Hate Mates". When Alexa gets injured the alpha and pack confront the two. They've had enough and everything could've been avoided if Alexa and Landon weren't so stubborn. Now being forced together and to rely on each other there's nobody else to interfere and no way for them to walk away from the other. Will Landon and Alexa finally admit to each other and themselves what the pack and what they knew their entire lives?
If I had any complaints, I really wish we would've gotten to find out what happened with Cheryl and Drew. Cheryl cheated when she called for a mate challenge and Drew helped her even knowing that it was against the rules.

Landon and Alexa are born to the same pack on the same day, this leads everyone to believe they will be true mates. As they get older they fight like crazy. The story takes you through their lives, from birth to adulthood so you get a good idea of their feelings. Although I do begin to wonder if Landon isn't a little soft for Alexa as they get older. This book has humor in it to counter all their arguing and bickering. There is some action mixed in, they are wolf shifters after all. There isn't any intrigue or mystery we know what's going on. There is a moment of two of suspense, but it's just suspense while waiting to see the outcome of what's happening and very short-lived suspense. I enjoyed reading about how their relationship evolved and how they began to talk to each other finally. This is definitely a relationship kind of story. There are some pretty steamy scenes between the two of them once things progress in their relationship. This book is part of a series but none of the other books have to be read in order to enjoy this book.

Landon and Alexa, are wolf shifters, were born on the same day, same pack, and same hour. Their parents and pack mates believe they are true mates but have hated each since they were toddlers. As the years pass, they try to stay away from each other. Landon has never been with another woman not even his “girlfriend” Cheryl who wants to be Landon’s mate. The Alpha, Landon’s father, and Alexa’s parents along with the pack are tired of their bickering. They handcuff them together. They must live, sleep, and work with them being handcuffed together. They realize that they don’t hate each other. They come up with a plan to try and be mates, if they leave the cuffs off. Cheryl has her own agenda and will do anything to be Landons mate.
I honestly didn’t think I would like this book…..but it was awesome. A little short but we’ll written. I have never read anything by Sam Crescent but I will be checking out the other books. There is some spicy sex scenes. Fighting. This is a haters to lovers book.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Review of Hate Mated by Sam Crescent * * * * * Need a shifter fix romance? Well here is one for you from the fabulous Sam Crescent with her curvy babes and hunky men and fate at its finest.
Two babies born on the same day, boy and girl, and everyone believes it is fate that will bring these two together as mates. However, these two don't see it that way. Throughout their lives it is shoving, pigtail pulling, stealing of clothes and nasty bitter fights. They hate each other. That is evident to the pack. But no on can deny the attraction, and maybe there is a little something more. It takes one attack from a crazy wannabe luna-slash-not really ex-girlfriend to show people something is really wrong between these two. He's too weak and she's super strong. Their rejection is physically hurting one another. It takes a crazy plan for these two to make things right, and it might just work.
Love me my shifter fix from this author. Fated mates and need and some violence is just something I need and find in this series. The handcuffs were an added bonus.
Alexa and Landon are wolf shifters who were born at the same time, in the same pack. This means that they are destined to be true mates and they are constantly pushed together by their parents and the rest of the pack. However, they don't feel connected to each other and fight the mate bond.
Their parents and the pack decide to force them to be together because their resistance is not only hurting each other, but the entire pack. Drastic measures are taken and they seem to be paying off when a natural bond starts to form between Alexa and Landon. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy to see these two follow their destiny and become mates, threatening their newly formed bond and testing the strength of their love.
I really liked this story. It took a different spin on the fated mates trope and had a slow burn type of romance. Enjoyable and recommended.

“Just another failed day of trying to stay away from Alexa.”
Honestly this is really more 3 1/2 stars but I rounded up because there’s nothing really wrong with it except the normal dreadful editing that is almost the hallmark of Sam’s books. This is a pretty low angst story of two people who grew up hating each other while secretly really in love. The story was cute and I liked them together. They really were adorable. All the plot twists were too contrived and I actually got weary of them both constantly wanting to remind the other they were free to be with someone else. Also the way the entire town got so involved in their business was absurd. Don’t even get me started on the Cheryl twist.
I’ve always enjoyed Sam’s Alpha Shifter series. My favorite is Rejected Mate. The stories in the series are usually less intense and more romantic than her MC or Mafia romances. While this isn’t the best in the series it’s still an enjoyable read.

Thank you to NetGalley, Evernight Publishing, and the author for the opportunity to read an ARC of this title. An honest review was requested but not required.
This book was fun, but felt unfinished. The plot jumped ahead and the characterization felt rough. Landon and Alexa, as characters, felt secondary to the machinations of their parents and their packmates. It was a cute story but definitely did not have a lot of depth. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite romance tropes, paranormal or otherwise, and I felt that they jumped pretty quickly from capital-E Enemies to full-on lovers without much in the middle. Definitely they would have benefitted romantically (story-wise) from a LOT LESS parental involvement. Or at least a lot less parental helicoptering. Also, and maybe I missed it, but I was pretty peeved that Cheryl and her henchman dodged punishment.
Fun for an hour's light reading but don't expect anything deep.
I chose to read this book because I was intrigued by the idea of fated mates that couldn't stand one another. Sam Crescent did a good job of establishing the rift early on between Alexa and Logan. Their destiny had been pushed on them since birth. So much so that they rebelled against it. Eventually, intervention was needed to help these two see that they needed to give one another a chance. Once they actually listened and didn't snap at each other, they started to see similarities and things to respect about each other. That's when they were able to begin to build a foundation. Of course, there's more to it than that, but you'll have to read the book to find out.
It's a quick, enjoyable read. The author does a nice job of pulling the story together quickly and giving the reader a satisfying ending.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.
Landon and Alexa's story is almost something that can happen in real life. When they were born the parents just went by the rumors and the old tales of fated mates never giving them the opportunity to find that out themselves so being true kids they reveled. The began hating each other.
Time passes an their hatred has fractured their mated bonds. So much so they begin to feel the repercussions of them denying their mating.
So when Alexa gets hurt the Alpha has to intervene make them see past thir hatred, so the pack gives them am ultimatum.
When they are left to get to know each other without the pressures of everyone Alexa and Landon realize that they are in love. But trouble is around the corner can they overcome their past and bridge the whole that they created.

Landon and Alexa were fated mates from the beginning. They were to be the next to rule. Problem: they hated each other. Well hate is a strong word. It seemed that they just couldn’t stand one another for some reason. Perhaps it was being told from the start that they were meant to be. That puts a lot of pressure on someone. Then you are front and center all the time. I can understand the issue. But these two really did love each other. They just had to get past all the fated issues and just learn to trust one another. It was tough. Alexa was being teased about her weight. And Landon just couldn’t find a way to stop the cruel words from others. With the parents taking the reins and giving them a push, they learned about each other and even about themselves. Of course, there is always someone that doesn’t want them to be together.

Alexa and Landon were born on the same day. Their parents were best friends and the whole pack knew rumors were that they would be true mates . That’s not what happened! Alexa and Landon hated one another their whole lives. The pack knew the situation had gotten out of hand and decided to force them to live and work together. I’m read this book in one sitting and couldn’t put it down. I have had a couple of recent books by this writer that fell flat so I was super exited when I got into this one and enjoyed it. If you like shifters, fated mates, ott j/p heroes or any of the other tropes listed above then this so a great read!
From the moment of their birth on the same day and at the same time, it was a foregone conclusion that Landon and Alexa were fated mates. Their parent and everyone in the pack believed to to be true. Landon and Alexa however grew up hating each other. Their pack steps in to force them to become mates when they begin to have negative side effects from denying the bond.
Landon and Alexa really don’t hate each other. It is more the fact that they didn’t like the fact that everyone insisted that they were mates well before they would officially transition and find out. It became more habit than anything.
A little danger in the story from a rival. Wish we were told what happened to Drew and Cheryl in the end.

Hate Mates by Sam Crescent is an enjoyable enemies (hate) to lovers shifter romance. Landon and Alexa are born on the same day - in shifter world, this means they are fated mates. But they hate each other. Really hate each other. There's no way either of them believes they are mated. Their parents even start to question the mating.
But when they are in their wolves, they want to be near each other, which is weird. Alexa admits that they are mates and she grows stronger while Landon grows weaker.
The book is sexy, with lots of steamy scenes, but I wasn't a huge fan of the "hate" aspect. I really just wanted them to grow up, listen to each other and stop being TSTL.
