Vampirella: Year One #1 - A Story That Boggles The Mind

I'm truly confused on what has happened to Christopher Priest. A man who has a reputation as being one of the best comic book writers of the modern era. This is now the second Vampirella comic I've read of his from the past year and a half and it's trash. By framing this story in the modern era, once again, he can get away with using modern day slang and that was my major problem with the first issue I read of Vampirella/Dracula: Unholy #1.

Also, why is it necessary that we see Senator Hilal taking a whizz? How is that pertinent at all to the story being told here? I wonder what would've happened with Priest's iconic Black Panther and Deathstroke runs if he had shown T'Challa or Slade Wilson going to the bathroom? I think Marvel and DC both would've booted him off the titles that's for sure.

Christopher Priest's writing here just seems very juvenile to me. Granted, this is only the first issue. But, after reading this, I don't want to finish the story. I don't need to take a chance and see a scene of Pendragon going to the bathroom any time soon.

It's a real shame too because I was really looking forward to seeing Pendragon and Pantha again in Vampirella. But, now, because of my issues with this comic, I don't want to finish this story. There are serious flaws with this comic. The flaws are all in the writing, not the artwork. Ergun Gunduz' artwork is flawless!

It's Christopher Priest's writing that is my only issue with this comic. If you can get past those flaws, then God Bless you and enjoy the story. Unfortunately, for me, I can't take 5 more issues of this. This is the second Vampirella miniseries written by Christopher Priest that I don't want to finish.

What a shame 😔! I think that I'm going to go check out Vengeance of Vampirella now or some of Vampi's classic stories. I need a break from this modern era of Vampirella and Christopher Priest.
