Christy Nicholas loves all things historical, especially if it has anything to do with Ireland, Scotland, England, or Iceland, and she writes historical fantasy, travel guides, and a book on writing craft. Her tales tend to the gritty, with bittersweet endings, and she's never afraid to torture her characters. But there is beauty in all darkness, and she loves showing that, as well.

Legacy of Luck is the third book in the Druid’s Brooch Series by Christy Nicholas. It is a historical fantasy- with mystical elements, magic, Fae, action, adventure, drama, mystery, and danger. Eamonn is a horse trader and Traveller (not to be confused with Gypsies),who is attending a horse fair with his family. Kate and her sister Deirdre are also Travellers who are at the fair with their parents (who are really horrible people). Eamonn falls for Kate, but before he can really do anything about it, Kate’s father arranges a marriage for her, and she is whisked away. Eamonn is determined to rescue her, and so with Deidre and his cousin- they set off on their quest. I have read quite a few of the books in this series now, but not in sequence- picking books at random- and thankfully each book can be read as a standalone. I have found this story the most difficult to ‘get into’, as it was really slow to get going and the overall pace of the story was much slower than I would have liked. I also couldn’t connect with Eamonn, and I found him hard to like. I didn’t mind Kate- but again I didn’t fully connect with her either. I really wanted to like this story much more than I did, because all the other books I have read of Ms. Nicholas’s there hasn’t been a problem getting into the story or connecting with the characters. Perhaps I’m just having an off week- so I will look at revisiting this book in the future to see if I still feel the same way. I will be continuing my exploration of this series to see what else Ms. Nicholas has in store for us!
Legacy of Luck Druid's Brooch Series #3 by Christy Nicholas is a historical fantasy that is full of magic and mystical creatures. The story is fraught with action and drama, adventure and mystery, and lets not forget the danger. All books in this series can be read as standalones. Having been to Ireland and Scotland I found it easy to travel to and imagine the vivid pictures that Christy was painting. I enjoyed this story but to me it was a little slower paced to begin with and took awhile for me to warm up to it. I felt the storyline of the Brooch was missing in this tale and I was a little unsure of some of the characters. There is a little twist towards the end that I did not see.
Travellers Eamonn and Kate are attending a horse fair with their families and Eamonn falls head over heels for Kate but she is forced into an arranged marriage. Thus becomes the journey to save her and have her for himself.
I have read most of the books in this series and am not sure what is left to read but I look forward to finding out.
Esme and Eithne were borne twins to their parents. They often felt the other's emotions, but, unlike most twins, they were not close. Rather, far from being close, Eithne couldn't abide being around Esme.
Brought up on a farm purchased for them by their Mother's Father, the twins, sister Bridey and brother Niahm, were barely surviving. Their Father started things with great enthusiasm but had trouble with the follow-up.
As Esme and Eithne were nearing the age of marriage, their Mother and Father faced the fact that the family was starving due to their mismanagement of the farm. They offer to sell it back to Grandfa, as they called him. They then sail for America, leaving Esme and Eithne with their partners.
If this sounds like a typical Irish country folk emigrant tale, you couldn't be farther from the truth. Grandfa gifts Esme a brooch that activates and links her to her Fae Magic heritage. This simple tale becomes a Druidic history that straddles two worlds.
Throughout the remainder of the story, I found Legacy of Truth: Druid's Brooch Series to be a true Irish story. This is to say that misery stalks Esme wherever she goes, no matter how good she is, no matter how unfair the situation is, but offers redemption in the end.
Possession of the brooch is where all of the action in the story centers around. Although Esme is a truthful and charitable person, the same cannot be said of Eithne. The choices made by one twin affect the Magic much differently than the one by the other twin. Many nefarious deeds are committed requiring balancing by the Fae.
I felt sad but greatly satisfied with the ending. Getting to the end was like riding an emotional rollercoaster. However; it was well worth the time and emotional workout. Legacy of Truth is a magical Irish book about real people in real and unreal situations. I highly recommend this book.
Legacy Of Truth (Druid’s Brooch Series #2) Christy Nicholas $0.99 on Kindle
A tale of magic and love in 1800s Ireland
Author Christy Nicholas’s first book in this series, “Legacy of Hunger,” wonderfully demonstrated her love for Ireland and Irish culture and history. This second book, “Legacy of Truth,” keeps those strengths and adds more—memorable characters, powerful conflict and a nuanced exploration of what is family, what is love and how one is to navigate the choices life throws one.
We meet Esme, the “good” twin in a pair of twin sisters, as a young girl nearing young womanhood. Her life is set in motion by two things—her Grandfa bequeathing her a slightly magical heirloom brooch and her selection of a husband from her suitors. Both lead to a schism with her remaining family, as she must leave her home to follow her new husband and conceal from her jealous twin the precious heirloom. Without spoiling the journey for readers, both the brooch and Esme’s continuing decisions about loving companions frame the course of her life and the drama in the story.
The writing is smooth and well-edited, with a vivid and detailed concreteness that beautifully supports the enthralling world created by the author, a world that begins in the 1780s in small towns in Ireland. I greatly enjoyed the flashes of Irish folklore and moments of magic, more organically integrated into the story in this volume than in the first book. The characters are real and human, with distinct personalities and motives. I particularly enjoyed Esme’s friendship with her neighbor Aisling, a surprising and sweet love. Esme herself, while “good” relative to her scheming and ambitious twin Eithne, is flawed and human, struggling with life’s challenges as we all do, and failing at times to be perfect and upright. While I questioned Esme’s decisions and judgment around love at times, I never found them to be forced or false but rather a natural outgrowth of her worldview and understanding as a simple woman in a small town, far from the worlds of sophisticates and lords and ladies. This is not a plot-driven tale of high adventure, but rather a chance to live in and explore another time and place and society through the life of a sympathetic and engaging character.
Recommendation: for readers of historical fiction who enjoy Ireland and the tiniest hint of magic, and well-drawn humble characters living real lives and a gentle tale pulled inexorably forward by the main character’s decisions about how to live her life.
This is the third book in the Druid Brooch Series but a stand alone novel. Ireland, travelers, castles, mystical things and great characters make for an enjoyable read. Eamon is a horse trader and along with his father and siblings are at a fair to trade. Kate and her sister Deirdre are also at the fair, their parents are nasty people and the father arranges for Kate to be married. The traveler's women always have the option to say no to prospective mates but Kate's father doesn't give her the opportunity, so off she goes with her husband. She tells her husband that she will not consummate the marriage until she meets with her father in law and thus starts the tumultuous journey of Kate and Eamon trying to find her and rescue her!I enjoyed this story, especially the mystical part with the Druid's brooch which Eamon inherited from his father. The characters were well written and the storyline believable, I kind of wish there had been more detail about the brooch and the powers that the brooch had and the history of said brooch. That said, I learned a bit more about the Travelers, not to be confused with Gypsies. Even though they rarely set down roots, their lifestyle is interesting. This is a story that will sweep you away into a time of bygone Ireland. An enjoyable read for sure!
The author is congratulated for her extensive research. It forms an intriguing background for this fantasy novel that takes place in the late 1700s. The descriptions of the land, sea and changes in the weather are excellent. There are many moments of suspense around the stone circles where the reader is hooked by the ongoing drama. The relationship between the twin sisters is complex and their fight to own the magical brooch makes the story exciting with the ongoing tension. In my opinion the powers of the brooch are too mild and not worth fighting for especially considering the misery that it brings. In the author’s own words: “The Irish aren’t one for the happy endings. We do love our misery.” Mixing the ancient languages makes the story difficult to follow in places. The one or two American English words such as “gotten” are incongruous in Druid society. Having said that, the glossary of terms and the translations of the songs at the end of the book will be appreciated by readers interested in the Druids and the ancient mythical Ireland. A glance at Christy’s website shows us that she’s a prolific author and a talented artist in paintings and jewellery.
Ok, so I'll preface this by saying that I love love love books about Scotland and Ireland, especially when set in this time period. But, since I am a bit obsessed, I have pretty high standards for the world building that goes into these books. That's why I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I didn't exactly know what it was going to be about when I started it. All I knew was that is had an absolutely gorgeous cover. I wasn't disappointed. Scene setting is this author's strength. You feel like your there on that countryside trying to save a girl from a horrible fate. It starts off rather slow and takes some getting in to, but once you do, it won't let you go. The characters are more like caricatures of real people, rather than fully developed people themselves, but it worked tremendously for this kind of book. They're incredibly earnest and easy to root for. By the end, I wanted them all to win, even Lochlan. Not his brother though. Ugh - I hated him. But that was the point. It's written in a very different style than I usually read, which takes some getting used to, but that isn't a bad thing because I ended up enjoying the uniqueness tremendously.
Éamonn a Traveler at fair in Ballyshannon, Ireland. He loves above all gambling, drinking and woman, and not in that official order, that is what he loves. But trouble finds him when he falls for the sister of a woman he dallied with. This gal is then married of the a Scottish traveler all without her consent. Eamonn now finds himself going to Scotland to rescue her with her sister, a cousin and a brooch his father gave him as a gift, hmm magical brooch as we find out. Their journey takes them along the coast of Northern Ireland, the west coast of Scotland and lands then on the Island of Skye The trip is not an easy one they find war, betrayal and even death. But after all the must make his own luck, and to learn how to use his power. A great story, plenty adventures and to see how it ends well you will just have to read it to find out, for I shall not tell you how it ends.
“Legacy of Truth” is a compelling story set in the 18th century Ireland. Historical fiction being my favorite genre, I always appreciate it when the author can transport me back in time with their vivid, imaginative language and unforgettable characters, and “Legacy of Truth” did just that. It’s not an easy story to read as Esme, the main heroine, has to go through a lot starting with the virtual loss of her family after their move to America, to losing several children one after another. Her marital problems and the locals’ refusal to accept her into their community only made me empathize with her more and hope for the poor girl to finally catch a break. I also appreciated elements of local folklore and fantasy included in the narration as it definitely made the story even more interesting and intriguing. I’ll definitely be reading the following book in the series. Recommended!
It is hard to think of where to begin with this great book. I can start by saying you won't be disappointed in it at all. From the first page to the last it keeps you involved with each of the characters in the story. To try and sum up this book a a simple review is hard to do. It makes you ask if the main character will get the girl, or win the day, but if you want to know the answer your just going to have to read from start to finish.
I find its a tale of love, adventure and some luck. I highly recommend this book!
(P.S. I would like to thank the Author for allowing me a chance to read this book before it came out officially. I look forward to more of her works)
This was a well-written book, full of historical detail. It described Esme and her family, who lived in a small community in late 18th century Ireland. Esme's parents and younger siblings are leaving for America, while she and her twin sister marry. Esme moves with her husband to a new town and must learn to adapt to her new life. Her grandfather gifts her with a family heirloom, a brooch reputed to have mystical powers. Esme's twin devises a scheme to steal the brooch away. This was an intense, complicated book that follows Esme's life from a young girl to a mature woman.
Legacy of Truth Druid’s Brooch Series (#2) Christy Nicholas
Set in Ireland in the 18th century, Esme and her (rotten, tacky, do-nothing, moral-less) sister are left behind in the Emerald Isle when her parents leave for America taking her younger siblings with them. Both sisters marry. Esme’s handsome new husband is a traveling trader and leaves her for longer and longer periods of time. Her grandfather, also a traveling trader, feels his granddaughter's pain and loneliness and gives Esme a brooch that has magical powers. It doesn’t take long for her sister to discover Esme has the brooch and she tries to steal it—not because she wants it for herself, but to sell it for its profit.
This is the second book in the Druid’s Brooch Series by author Christy Nicholas. I reviewed the first book in the series—Legacy of Hunger—in 2015. I truly liked it. I wish I could say the same about the Legacy of Truth.
Ms. Nicholas is a talented word-crafter. I have no complaints with her talent. In fact, I’m very impressed by her. This book, however, is…honestly…boring. It took FOREVER to get going and by the time it did…I was done. It was a chore to finish.
It actually makes me feel terrible to say such a thing because I enjoyed her first book so much. However, according to my mother, honesty is the best policy.
I will say this, though: even though the pacing was slower than molasses, the story itself was good. What I mean by that is that if the author had taken a different approach to getting from point “A” to point “Z” maybe skipping every step between “B” and “T” it might have been great. There was just too much detail about insignificant (and what I thought were unimportant) elements of the story. Those over-detailed parts bogged down the story almost to a stop. In fact, at one point, I got so bored I put it down for almost two months before I picked it up and finished it.
I REALLY HATE TO LEAVE A BAD REVIEW. I just can’t do anything else.
Historical fiction, when done right, is always a genre that I enjoy to read. I read the first book in this series and found it to great novel, full of rich details and history, blended seamlessly around a wonderful story with a magical twist.
The second novel did not disappoint. Here, we see the story of Esme and her family. Esme, a twin, has a connection to her sister, but it is not a bond of love. Esme is a great character, one who you are drawn to. Her, and her family, are so well written, that you forget it's just a book. Christy Nicholas has a gift with characterization, and the characters come alive, especially Esme, her husband, and Aisling, the neighbor. Even the horse is given character and attention in the book.
The story has fantasy elements, Esme has a magical brooch, and that, along with trying to find a place for herself in the world, along with her husband, after the rest of her family (except her twin and her grandfather) goes to America.
The imagery and writing are rich and imaginative. You can imagine being on the wind swept hills, in the cottage, or in the stones. The pull of the magic is constant, and it draws the twins to it, in a somewhat cliched storyline of good twin and bad twin. However, while the plot of one twin pitted against another is a bit of cliche, it never comes across that way while reading because the plot and the characters are so organically evolved that you get caught up in the drama and intrigue, rooting for Esme, who has odds stacked against her.
This book is part romance, part fantasy and part history, but it is masterfully written and engaging. I did not wan to put it down at times, it really captured my imagination and my interest and I can't wait for what comes next.
I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Historical fiction is always a genre that I enjoy reading. I've never disliked a book from the genre before, and that sure isn't the case now. This book's rich depiction of Irish folklore and attention to detail is what makes it such a captivating read.
From the get go, we are introduced to our characters - and boy are they unforgettable. The characterization is extremely well done, and I found myself rooting for (and against) many. Our MC, Esme, has near-impossible odds stacked against her and I absolutely love how she perseveres despite that. The secondary characters all have distinct voices that reach you through the page, and that made for a very rich story.
The world building was done in a very subtle and gradual manner, allowing the reader to slowly immerse themselves into the story. I totally devoured this book in two sittings! Also, the plot was intriguing and drama-filled, but I did think that the beginning of the story took a while to find its footing. After that, however, everything kept going uphill.
In short, this was a masterfully written story with an enthralling, drama-filled plot that'll keep you on your toes 'till the very end. The Irish aspects of the story were incorporated really well and the characters had very distinct voices. This is the second book in the Druid's Brooch series. I haven't read the first book yet, but if it's anything like this one, then sign me up!
Legacy of Luck is the third book in Christy Nicholas’ Druid’s Brooch Series. It’s a fascinating series that I’ve been really enjoying. Each book focuses on a character in a different point in (predominantly Irish) history who inherits a brooch, passed down through the generations, and with it gains some magical powers. I love the glimpses into history, and the way the story unfolds throughout time. In Legacy of Luck, the heir to the brooch is Éamonn. A traveller with a knack for gambling with dice, Éamonn is desperate to save fellow traveller Katie from an arranged marriage she hasn’t consented to. He has to discover how to use his powers to help him on his quest, and how to do so safely. There are lots of good characters in this story – I particularly like Éamonn’s brother Ruari as he is kind and loyal and uninterested in the romantic drama that takes over most of the other characters. I also like Turlough with his gift for music. In this book there is a fair bit of violence and domestic abuse, particularly in Katie’s story. It is addressed sensitively and is a relevant part of the story, but at times it is quite graphic and can come unexpectedly. For me, this is a five star book. I enjoy the series, and this is a great addition to it! The books do not need to be read in order, and indeed the series order doesn’t follow the chronological order of the time periods that the books are set. So I’ve been reading them in a fairly random order and enjoying the story that way! If you’re particularly interested in Irish travellers or 18th Century history, this might be a good place to start.
A great read about love. Eamonn is a traveller in the horse trade. Whilst at a fair, he falls for a young woman named Katie. To his horror, she is forced to marry another man who she doesn't love. Desperate to save her, he races against time and across the sea to unknown lands with nothing but luck and some close family members. Will it be enough to win her back? A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn't put down. Well developed characters like Katie standing up for herself but vulnerable underneath or Eamonn sure of himself but devoted underneath. Great cast of supporting characters like the supportive Ciaran or strong and silent Ruari. I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with the standing stones in the bog with the mist for a sense of magic and mystery wonderfully written. Or the scenes at the fair full of life and people with small stalls and trades giving a feel of the historical setting so vivid its as if you're actually there. Or the vibrant sense of colour throughout with the dancing lights or the brooch or the wedding dresses bright and bold and wonderful. The switch of perspectives worked well to display both sides of events and was easy to follow. I also liked the use of the weather throughout, giving a feel for Ireland and also foreboding bad events at points aswell wonderfully written. I also loved the use of the Irish names and places and pronounciations was a lovely touch. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.
I give Legacy of Luck: Druid's Brooch Series: #3 by Christy Nicholas, 5 stars.
This is the story of Éamonn, an Irish Traveler who enjoy gambling and women. He doesn't have a place to call home, but he doesn't need it. Then he meets Katie. He is ready to give everything up for her. Then he finds out she is to be married off to another. He cannot stop the wedding, but he promised her he would protect her and he aims to keep that promise. So he goes with his cousin and Katie's sister on a journey to catch up to Katie. But this is not as easy as it seems. They are always a few steps behind. Along the way, they run into adventures, both good and bad. Katie's journey is also a hard one. She did not want to be married to this man, and she quickly learns that her new brother in law is one not to be trifled with. She prays Éamonn will find her. But the farther they go, the less hope she has. Will he reach her? If so, what then?
I have absolutely loved this series and this book exceeds my expectations. The characters so real, you love some and loathe others. Katie is my favorite. She is a spitfire Irish redhead who isn't afraid to show her temper. The story itself is wonderful. There are good things and bad things along this journey, just like life. Katie learns and deals with a lot along the way. Others also deal with grief throughout the book. The author has weaved a magical story set in a place steeped in the ways of the old magics and gods. I could not put the book down and you will also be drawn in as soon as you start reading.
Legacy of Truth: Druid’s Broach Series #2, by Christie Nicholas is another excellent book in a brilliant and creative series.
Legacy of Truth, like all the books in this series is standalone. There is no need to read them in order (I have not). In fact, I think I read the last one first and it’s what got me hopelessly addicted to this unique series.
Legacy of Truth is as breath-taking as the rest of the books in the Broach series as Esme, a feisty Irish redhead must fend for herself when her parents and siblings leave for America. The only family she has left is her evil twin sister (brilliantly evil, I must say) and her Grandfa, a traveller who intermittedly shows up throughout the book.
It is Grandfa who hands off the broach and its legacy to Esme. The broach itself calls to both Esme and her twin and becomes a source of conflict that ultimately leads to heartbreak for Esme.
Esme’s life is tragic and yet joyful at the same time. Nicholas has such a skill in creating such vivid and fallible characters. Nicolas pulls the reader into her story, as an invested observer. She brings 18th century alive through her descriptions of settings, emotion, characters, and events. Sights, sounds, smells leap off the page. It is that well done. I am so looking forward to reading the next in the series!
Legacy of Truth is well-written, well-paced with vivid descriptions, compelling characters and strong dialogue. These are all important elements to a 5-star review.
Legacy of Luck: Druid’s Brooch Series #3 is well-written and well-paced. It kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through it. I couldn’t put it down.
I’ve read this series out of order and it makes no difference. The books are independent of one another other than the legacy of handing down the brooch from one family member to the next.
The third installment of the Druid’s Brooch Series tells the story of Eamonn and his pursuit of his love, Katie, who has been forced to marry another. The chase takes them from Ireland to Scotland and from one adventure to the next. The story is told at a breathless rate, keeping the reader riveted (at least it kept this reader riveted!).
I loved this book – maybe my favourite of the series, which is saying a lot because I love the entire series. The brooch seems to have a bit of a lesser role in this book than the others. It is still there and it gives Eamonn the power of influence, but in the end, the luck, bad and good, is out of the control of the cast of characters
As with Nicholas’ other books, sights, sounds, smells leap off the page. The author brings the story alive through her descriptions of settings, emotion, characters, and events. I am so looking forward to reading the next in the series!
Legacy of Luck is well-written, well-paced with vivid descriptions, compelling characters and strong dialogue. These are all important elements to a 5-star review.
Legacy of Luck (The Druid’s Brooch Series Book 3) By: Christy Nicholas 5 out of 5 stars
The story Legacy of Luck (The Druid’s Brooch Series Book 3) by Christy Nicholas is a historical fantasy book. It grabbed my interest from the beginning, and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I had read the final page. It is a story that I found to have a lot of detail and I felt like I was right there with the characters. I enjoyed reading about the characters of Eamonn and Katie. Katie is a young woman who is strong, independent, feisty, and stubborn. Eamonn is a young man who loves woman and gambling. He rarely passes up an opportunity to place a bet and finding a woman is not hard for him. Then he meets Katie. The feelings he begins to have for her are not the same as for those he has been with in the past. There is an attraction between them. Katie finds herself married to a Scottish Traveler and Eamonn travels to Scotland in order to find her. What does the future hold for Eamonn and Katie? Read this book to find out. This is a story that is emotional and also had me glued to the pages wondering how it was all going to work out. I grew to care about Katie and Eamonn with each chapter that I read. I also enjoyed reading about many of the additional characters that are introduced and their interactions with Eamonn and Katie. I have read several of the books in this series and have found that they are entertaining and hard to put down. Highly recommended.
Legacy of Luck is a delightful trip back to a time when fairs were nodes of social interaction composed of small groups of traveling tradesmen, artisans, musicians, and story tellers. With family members in tow, journeying from temporary village to village and engaging in commerce, these fleeting communities sometimes created lasting human bonds. Here in Jocobin Ireland in the first half of the 18th century is the scene where Christy Nicholas’ new book in the Nichols Druids Broach Series takes place. And it is here that we follow the adventure of our hero, Éamonn, and heroine, Katie as the tension builds and unfolds.
Éamonn is the young free spirited son of Turlough, a tradesman and keeper of the secrets of the old ways of the ancient magical brooch that threads through Nicholas’ series. Turlough also happens to be a gifted player of the clairseach, a story teller, and is cast in an obscure shadow and mysterious background. Éamonn along with his quite, simple, and physically imposing brother, Ruari and a cousin meet the spirited Katie and her seductress sister, Deirdre at the beginning of the story that carries the seed of its narrative ending as well.
The reader will keep the pages turning through the many dramatic encounters, misunderstandings, and fast moving moments through to the final chapter in an enjoyable and well crafted tale.
Although third book in the series, it could be easily read as a standalone. The book is full of mystics, travelers, medieval atmosphere of castles, and magical creatures. Katie and Deirdre are travelers, sisters with awful parents, whose strict father sold Katie into marriage against her will. Eamonn, his siblings and father are horse traders at a fair, where he meets both Deirdre and Katie. After Katie being sold away, Eamonn has to follow his heart to save his love, accompanied only by his cousin and Katie´s sister. My feelings about this book are indifferent, which is neither good nor bad. The writing was good, smooth and naturally flowing, easy to read. The storyline was also fine and I liked the plot development, but the pace was far too slow for me, I would welcome faster development. On some spots, it was hard for me to focus and pay attention to what was happening, which made me wonder whether I want to finish the book or give up. More of character development would also be great. Sometimes I found it hard to feel any connection to the main actors. I really wished for Katie and Eamonn to find a way to each other and be happy, though. I received a copy from eBook Discovery and voluntarily reviewed the book.
Legacy of Luck (The Druid's Brooch Series Book 3) by Christy Nicholas
4 Stars
I am reading this whole series so far out of order it isn't even funny. I have enjoyed almost all of the books I have read by this author and this series has been great considering I don't even read this genre. I must say that besides the area descriptions and where this book takes place, it is not my favorite of the series, but I sincerely did enjoy it. I am thinking that this is not the authors fault, maybe if I go back and read all of these in order it will all be different for me. In saying that you can absolutely read these all as standalones without too much of a problem.
Eamonn’s journey to locate Katie, his true love along with her sister and his cousin was fun, had a bit of magic here and there and also had some twists and turns that I was not expecting. I've always wanted to visit Scotland so it was great taking this journey with them.
There were some great characters in this book, all of them written in very well and I definitely disliked the ones Im sure I was supposed to. There are some sensitive subjects in this book that were a bit hard to read at some points, but all in all this authors writing still comes through as completely awesome throughout.
Legacy of Luck is the third book The Druid’s Brooch Series from Christy Nicholas. I do believe you could read these out of order or as stand alone novels however, I wouldn’t recommend it. Christy Nicholas puts a lot of work and time into her scene and story building. It is evident that the amount of research and effort put into the details and making them as accurate as possible. The world of Ireland and the Travelers of the time is vividly painted for you so that you feel as if you are right there where the story is taking place and soaking it all in. I couldn’t and still can’t get enough of the world building that Nicholas does.
I'm not going to even attempt to tackle the story-line and details around that much outside of what the author already chose to divulge in the blurb. I will say these characters were some fun ones to read. The initial first few chapters were slow but once this story took off it was full speed ahead until the final page. My only complaint could be that I wished there was more detailing and explaining of The Druid's Brooch. I feel like that story-line got lost a little in this book. I am looking forward to seeing what will come next in the series.
Legacy of Luck: Druid’s Brooch Series: #3 by Christy Nicholas My rating 5 out of 5 stars
This is probably the 5th book I have read by Christy Nicholas and like the previous books, this one is nothing short of awesome. Every time I read book from the Druid’s Brooch Series, I instantly get sucked in. This book is filled with romance, adventure, always magical and excellent characters.
I really enjoyed the character of Eamonn. He is the next in line to inherit the brooch and spends his time trying to save a fellow Traveler by the name of Katie from a loveless and unsafe marriage. The twists and turns along the way as well as the secondary characters we meet make this book truly wonderful. I especially love the way Katie’s parents were worked into the book as well as her evil fiancé/husband. Having such nasty characters really gives this book that extra edge, which again is what pulled me right in.
I truly recommend the entire Druid’s Brooch Series. Watching the brooch being passed down to different members of the family, and what obstacles they encounter because of it, is magical.
Legacy of Truth returns us to Ireland and the family whose lives entwine with a mysterious druid’s brooch. Surprisingly, volume two in the series begins at an earlier point in time (1787) than the first (1846). We learn how Esme Doherty, great aunt to Legacy of Hunger’s main character, Valentia McDowell, inherits the brooch and how it changes her life. The brooch grants special powers to its guardian, but it also exacts payment in the form of personal loss. For Esme, the price is separation from family, including her twin, whose brief possession of the brooch threatens Ireland itself until Esme reclaims her heritage.
Vivid writing rich with sensory detail immerses the reader in Esme’s story. I particularly liked the scenes where she connects with the Fair Folk, source of the brooch’s power. If I have any complaint, it’s impatience to know more about the origin of the brooch and its intended purpose. Who created it? What was it made to do? Why is it attached to this particular family? I look forward to answers in future volumes.
** I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**
As a History buff and a lover of all things Irish, I had high expectations for Legacy of the Truth. I lived up to them and then some! Christy Nicholas does a great job with character development as they’re believable and the reader follows their growth throughout the story. In my opinion, this is always a sign of good character development, when they turn out to be different from what you imagined they were at the beginning of a book. As for the storyline, its pace might seem a bit slow for some readers but that wasn’t the case for me. I was so fascinated by the writer’s skillful descriptions that I felt like I had traveled in time and was strolling around beautiful Ireland. For a historical fiction novel, it can’t get much better than that, right? At the same time, the plot is realistic, extremely well-researched, and beautifully written.
I recommend this book to readers who want to know more about Ireland’s rich History and folklore.
I was thoroughly immersed in this world - again. In this part, it was the characters that struck me as so intricately painted. Don't get me wrong, as with the last part, the settings were rich and brought a world to life in vivid detail. But those characters, wow. The contrasts and similarities danced into a tragically deep story. Esme, the lead gets into your heart and as she endures things that I won't detail here I was moved to tears happy at times and so sad at others. Eithne is a real piece of work, standing as the contrast but still manages to grip me in a surprising way. The husbands and outcomes were unexpected, and even their friends had parts that added to the overall tone and theme in profound ways. I adore this series and can't recommend it enough. It is historical drama as its finest.
Legacy of Luck (Druids Brooch Series #3) by Christy Nicholas 4 Stars!!!!
This is yet another book in this series I have read and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed yet another trip into the world of the Fae and ancient Ireland and Scotland this time. The author has quite a unique world that she has created. I was just as enthralled with this book as I have been with the others in this series I have read.
The characters are refreshing and bring the story to life. I really like how the author entwines the two worlds together of the enchanting Fae and the magic and the real world , I really enjoyed the cultural pasts that the author uses in this book of Ireland and Scotland. I like how the story wasn't predictable. Eamonn and Katie's characters really drew me more into the book. I like how each were each other's second chance. I really routed for Eamonn at the beginning as Katie was really off limits to begin with. I also like how Eamonn's family history with the brooch and the Fae gets intwined into the story. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.
