The 4th Destiny Quest book skirts the line between gamebook and novel, and it just works. The second half is pure pirate-fantasy bliss, sailing over sandy dune seas, raiding hidden pyramids, and training your magic while swashbuckling. I read this back in 2019 when it first came out and loved it, and just finished a second play through in preparation for the newly-released book 5 which continues the story directly. I'm happy to say that the story holds up magnificently to my memory.

Game & book - both on very high levels! Joke aside Michael J. Ward style has dramatically improved to the point that the game book story is as deep and compelling as any worthwhile fantasy. Make sure to get Wrath of Ragnarok with it as the story continues to develop there!

And for the game side of things? Start rolling dice and making builds, the potential is so vast you can easily lose a year in your life making and testing heroes!
