Caruso uses his knowledge of naval jargon, aircraft design, and mission responsibilities to create hilarious images that capture the personalities of U.S. Navy aviators, crews, and planes. These unique aviation caricatures, known as Aerocatures(tm), provide new meaning to familiar military terms. 42 color photos, 40 b&w illustrations.
I really love a good chunk of the art and I'm a longtime fan of aviation and aviation art. There's one piece here that I'd first seen back when I was in middle school or high school at the latest and which I'm still a fan of. The central premise that the planes are the embodiment of birds is clever. Now, what I really found myself disliking (and I'm sure it's not a problem for most people who would be fans of this book) is the mid-90s Lee Greenwood jingoism that the author is saturated in. I would have disliked it in 1995 too.
