Millie Byers

Widowed at twenty-six. When I fell in love with Colin Byers at sixteen, I never expected that I’d lose him the day after we finally got married. The love of my life; my soulmate; stolen from me by a quirk of fate. After this my life spirals out of control, leaving me broke, alone, and losing the only thing I had my cupcake shop. Looks like it’s time for an early midlife crisis. This plan is derailed when I’m hit by a brilliant idea on the one-year anniversary of his death.

My husband was an organ donor.

Someone got his heart. If I can track this person down, I might finally find the closure I need. I mean it’s not really stalking if you only intend to say hi and then leave, right? But nothing about Ashton Knight is as I expected. The guy who got my Colin’s heart is a foul-mouthed smoker who drinks. A jerk with no compassion… and now I have a new mission. Fix him so he becomes the man who deserves the heart in his chest. Truth be told, though, as much as I love a good project, this one might just ruin me.

Ashton Knight

I’m living through the worst year of my life. After losing Jenna in a car crash and almost dying myself, I woke up with a new heart, and each beat is a constant reminder that I’m alive while she’s not. Just when I’m ready to sell my failing bar, forget my dad’s an alcoholic, and move away from this place, Millie Byers blows into my bar like a damn tornado. This uptight chick who meddles where she sure as heck is not wanted, riles me like no other. We fight like cats and dogs, but there’s no denying our chemistry. She rode into my life like a devil—or an angel, the jury is still out—and flipped it upside down. And despite my best intentions of showing her the door, somehow she ends up working for me. At this stage I’m not sure if I should fire or kiss her… maybe both.

Either way, this woman is going to be the death of me.

This is the most insta love of any insta love I’ve ever read. 10 days?!

If you can suspend reality, this was a cute story with a lot of emotional pain.
“I’m sorry about your husband, but he saved a life today. The person who got his heart was a perfect match."
I could sorta get behind Millie and her need to “save” Ashton, but the overall story lacked character depth.
I would give this guy thirty days. Thirty days of the best Millie I could be. I would do it for Colin. If he wasn’t a better person with a better life by then, then he was hopeless and not worth saving.
The more I think about this story, the more I don’t like it. I kept wondering if it were an older, unsexy man who received her husband’s heart, would she have taken the time to “save” him too? The overall story felt rushed, superficial and I didn’t buy the insta love for a second.

This book has everything you need and want. It will rip your heart out and then put it back together again. This story will have you laughing, crying cussing and feeling things you just don't want to feel, and yet you won't be able to stop reading once you start. As much as you want to smack each character for something at some point, you want to wrap them up and hug them just as much. Once I started reading this, I couldn't stop.

It crams a lot into a 10 day time line. A lot. Arguably way too much. Ashton and Millie lost their shine because of the forced medical emergency dramas. They stop bantering, they stop flirting, they stop working together, it just spirals- while describing their feelings at an 11 (scale of 1 to 10). And again occurring over less than 2 weeks.

Drop the alcoholic father liver thing, let the plot breathe a little, focus back on Ashton/Millie- it's such a simple way to massively improve it.

Tons of tears!

Millie and Ashton each have experienced extreme and unfair heartache and are giving up on life. It takes a failing bar and secrets to work through all the heartache. I bawled my eyes out and my heart tore into little pieces. Be prepared for a roller coaster ride when you pick this book up.

Omg what an emotional rollercoaster love, love, love this book.

How far would you go for the one you love to think you'll have the perfect planned life together and then reality steps in and you loose your partner your soul mate in an accident. Well for Millie that's exactly what happens two days into perfect wedded bliss her soul mate and childhood sweetheart Colin is killed in a car accident lost in her grief she realises that in death he saved a life but grief is hard burden to bear so on the first anniversary of his passing she does something crazy after getting drunk she persuades her best friend to risk her job at the hospital to get the details of the person who has her husband's heart. Several drinks later she gets exactly that the address of the person who could help her end her grief and start the healing process all she wants is to listen to her husband's heart one last time however going on this journey she finds a lot more than the strength to move on she finds the man who can heal her broken heart so that she can love again.

𝕊𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕪𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕖: Two days after marrying her childhood sweetheart Millie is left a widower. And while her heart may be broken, her husband Colin’s heart was donated to save another man’s life.

One year later and Millie still needs to feel some sort of closure over her husband’s untimely death, and so after a night of drunken cajoling she heads from NYC down to TN to hear her husband’s heart beat one last time.

But then she meets the recipient of Colin’s heart, Ashton Knight. He’s a smoker and a drinker—seemingly hellbent on wasting Colin’s gift.

Can Millie help turn Ashton’s life around and make him see the gift he’s been given? Or will she lose her own heart while trying to save Colin’s?

𝕊𝕖𝕩 𝕊𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕤: YESSSS! THIS is why I love an enemies-to-lovers trope! We get SUCH angsty AF build up until things explode into a full blown conflagration! Millie and Ash both know what they like and they play to their strengths. I’m giving this a VERY SOLID 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5! We get frequency with a bit of added variety!

Impressive and light hearted

Leia Stone as Leia Hart is a genuine game changer. Maybe she should stick with these light hearted romance novels. The stories she comes up with are utterly unique and gives her a chance to explore a depth of emotion I wasn’t quite sure she was capable of expressing with her usual paranormal fiction fare.
Although Ashton didn’t really have much of any character development and we never got the actual real story of how Ashton and Jenna both ended up in the car with their drunk father, I found that it wasn’t really important in the grand scheme of the story.
At its core, this was a story about not really finding closure, but self acceptance and self permission to be happy after grieving a loved one for so long.
Was Millie a bit off the rails? Yes, but can you blame her?
On a side note, if you’re big on getting mental pictures of scenery or descriptions of people, you won’t get that here. Fret not, it works! The focus should be on the characters actions and thoughts not what color Millie’s eyes are (honestly I don’t know because it was never stated). Same with trying to focus on how a bunch of 22-25 year olds were able to start a consultant business without any real experience, references or trying to get a loan for said business in NYC of all places! I could delve into that a bit but then I may be tempted to change my rating and it’ll go down the road of Wrecked (just didn’t get it).

I really enjoyed the Perfect Match even though it was pretty imperfect. I loved Ashton and Millie’s chemistry and banter. The hating each other part with their hilarious internal thoughts about the other was super entertaining. But they fell into instalove so insanely fast it gave me whiplash. Like deep, change my life love after 3 days and one kiss. 🤯 And speaking of insane, the heroine really did come off as bat shit CRAZY. I got past the flying to TN to listen to her husband’s heart, but leasing the apartment and working at the bar and then trying to stop the hero from selling it in literally the first 24 hours?? What’s the rush?? The author could have made any of these things a bit more plausible by simply spacing them out a bit. Millie also was accepted into Ashton’s family after a 5 min conversation and invited to come out of town to his gran’s birthday. 😳 And I never understood why Millie was so hesitant to tell Ashton her connection to him…

Anyway, add in multiple grammatical and spelling errors and this book is definitely very flawed. Plus it got a little too crazy at the end with the dad, transplant, Ashton‘s heart attack and super fast recovery, etc. BUT I did enjoy a lot of it. Go figure. 🤷🏻‍♀️ so I’m giving it 3.5 stars and rounding up to 4. I may try more from this author.

Perfect Match by Leia Stone a five-star read that will warm even the coldest of hearts. Never has an envelope so empty of words made me sob so much, this was such an emotionally compelling read, watching as Millie trys to put herself back together, keep going with life when she has lost everything she knows and just when it was starting, it is such a tragic story that you understand why she reacts the way she does, why she becomes a force that Ashton didn’t know he needed. This was a great story, and one that will keep your emotions just on the brink of being under control and at times you will go over that brink, you will fall into the pit of despair, but Leia Stone has a way of saving you and pulling you back to the page that makes it a deeper connection to the page that you can imagine. The thing about this story that really made it so good for me was that yes Millie and Ashton are the main characters, but they aren’t the only story we get to hear, there are characters that are no longer with us, but they are so real you can imagine them there celebrating and picking up the pieces.

I couldn't stop reading this love story by Leia Stone! It grabs you right from the beginning, makes your heart feel like its being ripped in two but its slowly brought back together with Ash and Millie's push and pull love story. I wanted to slap Ashton so much during this book, but his vulnerable and adorable moments put a huge smile on my face. I totally got teary eyed towards the end with his dad, not gonna lie haha. Haven't cried while reading a book in awhile, but the amount of emotions felt through the page was so overwhelming, in the best way.

I won't give too much up with spoilers, just know you are going to not want to put the book down once you start. You will want to see how much Ashton gives in to Millie's antics, or how Mille stands up to Ashton when he is being a curmudgeon. I loved the setting and the premise of the rundown bar being turned around into a hip spot with delicious sounding food (except I absolutely hate avocado so I just kept giggling at the that).

Definitely recommend, Leia never disappoints. Can't wait for more contemporary from her (I love her PNR too, but I have been gravitating towards her contemporary more recently).

Wow. I swear, Leia Stone just gets better and better. It was like this book just caught me and I got swept up and time flew by and suddenly I’ve read the whole book. I completely loved the characters, Millie was like a force of nature, passionate and feisty, and Ashton just had so much going on I wanted to give the poor guy a hug. He was hurting and angry, but he was also loving and pretty feisty himself. They butted heads from the second they met, and it was downright adorable.

This is not a bully romance, which some enemies to lovers stories can be, and that’s just not my thing. These two riled each other up and spoke their minds, and managed to drag each other back to life. They lit each other up.

I’m honestly struggling to describe anything, because it was so fast paced, and had me so caught up from one moment to the next, that I feel a little stunned. I may have to read it again. Actually I think I will. It was exciting, gut wrenching, heartwarming, inspiring, fun, sweet, and left me feeling just a touch giddy.

Perfect Match by Leia Stone
10/10 recommend • 4.5/5 ⭐️ • 3/5 🔥

This was my first read by this author, but definitely won’t be my last.

This was a tear jerker for me, and I was not expecting that.

Millie loses her husband in a tragic car accident. Because he was an organ donor he saved a mans life who was also in an accident where he lost his twin sister.

Millie struggles with her grief and thought if she found the person who received her late husbands heart it would help her move on, except when she gets there, the man is rude and he’s smoking and drinking. Millie makes it her mission to whip him into shape and not see her husbands heart go to waste.

There is an instant connection between Millie and Ashton which I’m not usually big on, but this story was different. They both had lost so much, they deserved to find happiness in each other. & I loved their back and forth banter; made you love each of their characters. 4.5/5 stars, only because I would’ve liked a little slower development between the two.

Leia Stone’s other romance novel was a tear-jerker and this one is no different. Hell, the first pages alone are enough for you to need a box of tissues. The story is tragic, inspiring, funny, yet emotional all in one. But so so so emotional. Be sure to block out a good chunk of time because once you start, you won’t be able to stop reading until the very end.

The way Millie decides to meet and subsequently pursue and stalk Ashton was a bit excessive and cliché, but works by the end of the story. The ending is tied up nicely which I love about her romance books. The whole book is full of cliches, yet the way Stone writes them makes you overlook them and just enjoy the ride.

Be careful though. Stone’s romance novels are masterpieces so she’ll constantly leave you wanting more and more. Of her books, this one is up there with one of her best; though I’m not sure it can top Wrecked as my favorite. But it sure does give it a run for its money!

An Honest & Often Amusing, Though Painful, Story About Loss & Moving On!💔😭🙏😆💘🔥
A Wonderful 4.5 Star Read!🌟😍
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
Perfect Match: Enemies to lovers romance

Millie & Ashton meet under strange circumstances. They've both lost a loved one in the past year or so & are struggling to move on. One is finding it harder to even try than the other.😢 Both needing the help they end up sparking a fire in each other, they're either arguing or stripping each other with their eyes!!🔥 Unfortunately Millie never did tell Ashton exactly why she'd ended up in his bar in Tennessee instead of New York!!😳💥

I loved this story. It's realism, the chemistry, banter and the love & loss was beautifully written.🙏😍 This author doesn't ever seem to over write the emotional scenes, they're so well balanced, always!👍 A must read.🌟

I was back and forth with my rating. I honestly really loved it. The bones, the idea of it and all the emotion. It’s heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. It definitely tugs on your emotions. The characters were fantastic. I love how the rubbed each other raw and yet clicked at the same time. It was sweet and yet sinfully hot. It was a great book!
I have one issue though that didn’t set well with me. I couldn’t convince my brain to wrap around the timeframe. It was so fast that I couldn’t logically except it. I can get behind fast but in this situation it just didn’t fit for me. I feel like even two more weeks would have made it believable. That said, I still really enjoyed it.

Maybe it’s all the pregnancy hormones but holy hell..... I could not stop crying 😭

I love Millie! ❤️ She’s just one of those people that you can’t help but love. Always saving another person, when someone should save her instead. She was just real, her flaws, her thought process, and how grief pushed her over the edge. I totally would have done what she did.

And don’t get me started on Ashton.

Yes he was an asshole at first BUT he had his reasons. Life wasn’t kind to him and warped him into a shell of a body. But the reason why I loved him was because his actions and reasons were so spot on. He wasn’t just an ass for the stupidest reasons, he was actually very caring and a gentleman.

They are just perfect together. Favorite couple. Would recommend.

like carbonated steel… better with each page

Loved this book! This is a quick easy read and such a fun story. Love Millie. The emotions that Leia was able to capture are intense, natural and so powerful. My eyes were teary for most of the book. Millie and Ashton’s story is messy, difficult and beautiful all at once. I had a couple of issues. One, the time line just seemed off. I’s not believable that all of that happened in a week. The days didn’t add up at all. Two, Millie and Collin started a cupcake shop and that was their job then a few chapters later they had a business that saved failing restaurants and the cupcake shop was never mentioned again. Otherwise, this was a great story! I would read it again.

All the feels!!

Oh my heart!! I’m grinning like fool over here! I absolutely LOVE Millie and Ashton. This book hit all of my emotions. Several times I wanted to have a good cry. Ugh, so good. I absolutely love Gran too!! I enjoyed the comedy bits, and the enemy to lovers. They had their moments and it was hilarious!! I enjoyed psycho Millie. The author does a fabulous job pulling at your heartstrings and making the characters feel so real. I was hooked from the very first page and it was difficult to put the book down. So freaking good! I hope we get a shorty story about these two. They are my fave. 💓

Absolutely loved this beautiful, heart-tugging story.
Millie lived through the nightmare of her husband, Colin, dying in a car crash 2 days after they are married. She is about to lose her mind! Getting drunk with her best friend, gives Millie the bright idea to hunt down, (get closure from) the person who received Colin's heart.
When she discovers the heart recipient, Ashton, smoking and drinking in his broken down bar, Millie decides to save him rather than slap the stupid out of him! She realizes Ashton is hurting from the loss of a love one as well. The push and pull between them is absolutely fascinating to watch!

Sugary sweet at times/ insta love

3.5/5. Millie is one year post grieving the death of her husband and not coping well. After convincing her friend during a drunken escapade to find out who received her husbands heart she travels to have “closure” and say goodbye. Millie and Ashton have excellent chemistry and fiery banter that makes you swoon however it does all happen over the course of ten days and for me it was alittle too instalove. I enjoyed this read but felt a lot of the medical stuff was too far fetched and made the story feel a little thrown together. Easy, sweet read with an HEA

loved asher - his response to finding out the truth was so good, like any logical person would think she’s a psycho and mentally unstable.

however, i think how things were resolved was too expected and predictable. ALSO i think they should have talked abt Colin and their past more once the truth was revealed.

i liked how his dad and deceased twin sister and his family was woven into this.

also their sex scenes were SO spontaneously unexpected and seemed to be at the most inappropriate times in scenes and also locations

Mellie was cool - half the time i liked her and her fieryness but the other half i wanted her to stop fainting and crying and be a bad b

This book opens with some tough emotions (like most of Leia's books). Millie and Ashton have both been through tragedy that can either bring them together or rip their worlds apart. This book makes you laugh, cry and want to throw it across the room. The characters are both dealing with grief in different ways. You also get to see what their support systems look like. This book is great read if you are prepared to be emotional and have snacks. (Millie loves to cook so food is mentioned a lot! Have snacks or you’ll be sad)
