Wow!!! What an intense story that I could NOT even put down to sleep, I HAD to finish it!! DI Sara Ramsey returns from her honeymoon, and a really tough case drops in her inbox. One murder in a rural area quickly becomes two, and then the young children of the first murdered Mom are Abducted!! What is going on in farmland?!
The first call is an explosion, as a Mom starts her husband's car to make an appointment. The heat from the fire obliterates her and any clues that were left. The husband, a farmer on the land for the last ten years, is mortified...How can he explain this to his children, only 5 and 6..And How will he work his animals and the land with two kids to manage...He comes across a little rough, yelling at the team and the family worker that try to help him...He is Really devastated...Or.. Is He?!
The investigation leads Sara and team to neighbors on either side, who both loved the wife, but have nothing good to say about the cross, argumentative husband...Then one of the neighbors is murdered the same day!! Who has it out for theses hard-working people?
A striking story that pulled me into the action immediately, Never letting me go! I felt like I had lived through the whole thing, leaving me drained, finally able to sleep..I received an ARC from the author who I thank for a fantastic escape from everyday life, and I offer You my honest thoughts and feelings in this review. All who enjoy a good murder case will Love this book!!

Because her car is in the shop, she takes her husband's car. Seconds after putting the key in the ignition, the car goes up in a huge ball of fire.

Was this an accident or something far more dangerous. The husband, when questioned by DI Sara Ramsey and her team, tells them about the neighbors on either side of their farm who dislike him immensely ... the threatening letters he's received over the last few months ... and a farm animal that was killed and left as a message.

What follows is a day like no other. After talking to both neighbors, both admitted they did not care for the husband at all .... but they adored his wife. Just hours later, one of thos neighbors are murdered. And then hours after that, the husband's young children are abducted.

Sara and her team, as well as the community, are dealing with two death, 2 abducted children, no clues, and forensics are on hold.

As with all the books in this series, it's well written, with plenty of plot turns to keep the reader riveted. The characters are deftly drawn and I enjoy the relationship between Sara and her team. Action and suspense starts on the very first page and maintains a steady pace until the surprising conclusion.

Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

DI Sara Ramsey and DS Carla Jameson were called to an incident at a farm where a car had blown up. Mrs Jenkinson died at the scene. Mr Jenkinson told Sara that he had received threatening letters which he had taken to the station a few months earlier but nothing had been done. Also, he told her that both of his neighbours had fallen out with him so Sara made a note to question both of them. His wife was driving his car as the brakes had been tampered with on her car so it was being repaired.

A few hours later, Sara and Carla were called back to a farm nearby when a postie found Frank Dobbs dead on his drive, he had been shot. Carla went to check that Andy was ok while Sara stayed to check the scene and speak to the postie. The gun had been left behind and was one of Franks, it was a shotgun. The safe upstairs was wide open and completely empty.

Carla came back, Andy was ok. They decided to check on Mr Jenkinson, although they got a very unfriendly welcome on their return. He verbally abused the FLO and Sarah stepped in to help and they finally got away from the farm. When Sara got back to the office, he had complained to her boss so Sara was called to her office. Once Sara had explained the situation the boss understood but she knew Sara was an excellent officer, one of her best. A call came through to say that the Jenkinson’s children had been kidnapped on the way home from school. Sara left the office and met Carla at the car, they drove to the farm, asking for backup on the way to get a search started. They needed to know the exact details so the search could be effective.

Who could be behind this spate of events? Are they all linked? Why did Danny Jenkinson have such an attitude? Why were the children kidnapped?

I totally enjoyed this reading book. Sara Ramsey and her team have had some great cases behind them. This is the tenth book and for me, the series is just getting better and better!

What a brilliant book this is, from start to finish.
DI Sara Ramsey & her partner DS Carla Jameson are in the thick of things again trying to solve what would appear to be a devastating death of a young mother when her car suddenly exploded with her in it. It later transpires that the lady in question has been murdered by persons unknown and nobody in the village has a clue as to the reason why. Sara’s team have a very hard task ahead of them trying to gather information which is sparse on the ground.
This series keeps going from strength to strength & I honestly do not know how the author is going to top this one.

Just love it when I start a new
DI Sara Ramsey Story.

Sara and Carla, are
soon off to a new case.
There’s a car involved. They go to find where it is.
They meet up with Lorraine, the pathologist.
Now we know there is a death.

We meet all the neighbours, to find out if any body saw anything.
The team are now very busy, looking to see what happened

I think M A Comley, put a lot of secrets into this story, to make it unputdownable.
Loved it!

Cold Mercy is the next installment in the Sara Ramsey series. It is hard to find another author who has so many series all with the same great perspectives and great characters.

The characters are the same as always with great interactions between the teams as well as a superb amount of action for the characters

The story was well thought out and had a lot going for it. It was unique and shows a gifted mins who could come up with these stories.

I truly enjoy this series and I can see the depth in which the author has went to, to ensure that these characters don't resemble other characters that she has written.

What an amazing book.

Was the explosion in Danny’s car that killed his wife, Gillian, an accident or deliberate? As Sara & the team are looking into the case, one of Gillian and Danny’s neighbours is shot dead.
Can 2 murders on the same day possibly be coincidence? DI Sara Ramsey and the team get to the bottom of these cases?

What an intense start to this story! Another excellent book in the DI Sara Ramsey series. The author had my heart racing at times, the storyline was gripping and held my attention. Really good characters throughout. I highly recommend this book.

This series gets better and better. DI Sara Ramsey and her team are notified of an explosion at a farm and arrive to hear from the pathologist at the scene that a car has blown up with a body inside. Is it an accident or something more sinister? The farm is part of a small community and their enquiries from neighbouring properties highlights some disputes between the residents.

Whilst back at the Station delving into the background of the deceased, a murder is committed at one of neighbouring farms they had just visited. What is the connection?

This was a real page-turner and thrilling. Highly recommend.

Are we really on book 10 of this series... wowsers, doesn't time fly! And with absolutely no signs of flagging. In fact, I think this is one of (if not the) best in the series yet. And that's saying something as the bar is set quite high. If you do have time and inclination, please do start from book one and read in order - you'll find you'll get the best from this book if you do. That said, the main story is self contained so... at a push...
Anyway. So, Sara and Carla are called to a farm where a farmer's wife has just been blown up in his car. Luckily he had already dispatched their children off to school so they didn't witness the horrific event. Interviewing him uncovers some bad blood between him and his neighbours although they all seemed to get on well with his wife. So Sara and Carla pop off to interview them, leaving the forensic guys at the scene. Returning to base, they are just starting to set out the investigation plan when they are called back to one of the neighbour's farms where... well... let's just say their jobs get a whole lot harder...
Oh My Gosh... this book really did suck me in right from the explosive off and sunk its claws in tight, holding me captive for the entire afternoon. I'm lucky, I know by now that this author's books will do this so I do make sure my decks are well and truly clear before diving in.
Plotting is clever and very well executed, and the story kept me on my toes throughout. I really had no idea what was going on - well, I did but my attempt at guessing was so far off to be embarrassing! Characterisation is as always excellent - series characters continue to develop and episode extras have just as much care and attention lavished upon them. Banter and interaction between them is also top notch. Pacing is good and fits with the narrative at all times. As usual, there is enough description to set scenes but not enough to be distracting and there is absolutely no superfluous padding.
All in all, a cracking addition to a now already well established series. Roll on next time.

Non-Stop Action

DI Sara Ramsey barely had time to catch her breath in this one. I can almost feel her pain as she questions herself about her thoughts and feelings on the case having just returned from her honeymoon and getting her bearings and feet back on the ground.

The story kicks off with a car explosion that kills a young wife and mother, Gillian Jenkinson. The husband is devastated but angry with the police as he’s received threats for months and been ignored. He weaves the tale of neighbors who dislike him and a murdered sheep. The car that blew up was his so was the killer trying to kill Gillian or Danny?

The neighbors tell a different story. They sing the praises of Gillian and give their poor opinions of Danny and their fear for the children now that the mother is gone. It seems a simple case with a prime suspect until -- more murders occur and Danny’s children are abducted. With sparse clues, Sara has to wonder what’s really going on in this farming community?

An excellent police procedural and edge of your seat read as you’re left to wonder—what will happen next?

Detective Sara Ramsey and her team are back with another gripping new case.

This is a story that starts of with a bang, quite literally. As I have come to expect from this author, she sure knows how to grab her readers attention right from the off. The thrill and excitement does not stop there though as there are a few other shocks waiting in the pipeline.

Sara is someone who is willing to give people a chance and not jumping to any conclusions. While everyone seems to be losing their heads, she keeps her cool. I’m really enjoying Carla’s character as I was very much inline with her thinking. They work great together as a team with Carla being the slightly more hot headed one and and less forgiving than Sara.

The author yet again focuses on the case rather than the main characters personal lives which makes this book easy to read as a standalone. I loved the pacing and tension and I devoured it all in one afternoon.

Cold Mercy is a story that has tensions running high. It’s an addictive, unputdownable read that had me racing towards the ending. The ending made me quite melancholy at how low some people can go but it’s realistic as to what measures some killers will go to. Whilst my suspicions did turn out to be correct, it didn’t lessen the enjoyment and how the police work together in closing in on the killer. Overall an edge of your seat read that will have your heart racing.

My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

I am a massive fan of this author's books and I was delighted to see that she had a new release in the DI Sara Ramsey series - Cold Mercy!!

I absolutely LOVED this book and had devoured it within hours of it landing on my Kindle - I flew through the pages and found it to be a completely addictive read.  I started it in the evening when my husband was on nights and I settled down with a bar of chocolate - perfect!

The book was well planned out and I loved everything about it, the characterisation was perfect and I loved being able to catch up with Sara and the team too - Sara is such a fantastic character and probably my favourite female lead in this genre too and it is a competitive market so that is really saying something!

The book has a superb cover again that really suits the book so well.  It is 5 stars from me for this one, this is definitely my favourite of her series by far and this is another superb addition to that - very, very highly recommended!

Have I mentioned lately what an evil genius M.A. Comley really is? I was completely stumped with this one.

When you start off with a car exploding, a wife dying, and then before the end of the day, two other major things to investigate, all in a small rural farming community, and you have to wonder how on earth the team can work out what is happening or why.

This was a story that kept me on my toes, and when I wasn't reading I was trying to piece it together in my mind. I just couldn't work out how DI Sara Ramsay and her team would figure anything out.

I mean I had half a theory which was completely off base, but other than that I just had to keep turning the pages to see what on earth would happen next.

It's a fairly fast paced book with the action taking place over a very small number of days, and I was completely absorbed by it.

I can't believe this is the 10th book already of the DI Sara Ramsey series, it seems like only yesterday I was reading the first book, and it keeps on going from strength to strength. Bring on the next one.

Thank you to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

DI Sarah Ramsey is just back from her honeymoon when there's a call out to Northcott Farm ..There's been a horrific explosion and farmers wife Gillian Jenkinson has been killed outright in her car..Her husband Danny is devastated wandering how he will be able to tell his two small children the news .When Danny tells Sarah and DC Carla Jameson he has been receiving threatening notes, Sarah and Carla go to interview the neighbouring farmers ..Yet everyone it seemed was fond of Gillian who was a kind and gentle woman ..so how did this happen ...? No sooner are they back in the office when they hear there has been a murder at a neighbouring farm ..and Sarah believes that in some way these cases are connected ..But things take a darker turning ..and Sarah is about to find that the real world is where the monsters are . An Intense Dark Pageturner...with moments that will shake you to the core ...

‘Cold Mercy’ has an explosive opening and this brilliantly sets the pace for the whole book. This time DI Sara Ramsey and team are investigating the most heinous of crimes in rural Herefordshire.

The opening really is just the start. The accelerator is then floored and the tension builds from one level to the next which is why it had me racing through the pages - and that end, it was definitely a big wow.

As always, I loved the team dynamics. The conversation between the characters feels totally believable with little lashings of wit in just the right places. This book can definitely be read as a stand-alone but I really enjoyed reading the stories of the main characters that have developed with each book.

Another winner in the DI Ramsey series. It’s a speedy one so buckle up. Fab read!

Another gripping case for Sara Ramsey and one that had me completely fooled! When Gillian leaves her house for work, she’s killed when her car explodes outside her family home. Could it have been a malfunction or was Gillian murdered? When her children are also targeted, Sara needs to look closer into the family affairs of Gillian and her husband Danny to search for clues as to why this has happened to them. And the answers weren’t entirely the ones I was expecting!
I really don’t know how MA Comley manages to come up with her original and completely different ideas for her crime novels. Cold Mercy threw itself into my mind as took over any others thoughts I may have had whilst reading it! Lots of shocks along the way and a fabulous ending combined to make this one of my favourite books in the series so far.
Loved it!

Murder Most Foul - Stunning and impossible to put down.

Book ten of this exciting series explodes on to the pages - literally!

Newly married DI Sara Ramsey (now Fisher) has only just returned to work after her honeymoon, whereupon she and her partner, DS Carla Jameson, are called out to attend a suspicious death on a farm.

A car has exploded, trapping and killing a young mother of two - Gillian - in a fierce blaze from which her husband - Danny -  has been unable to rescue her.

After Sara and Carla questioned Danny, who was completely distraught, they discovered that he had apparently been receiving threatening notes and stated that one of his pregnant ewes had been killed recently.  Concerned for his welfare, Sara arranged for a Family Liaison Officer to stay with him whilst they continued with their investigation.

Gillian, it appeared, was extremely popular with the village community and there seemed to be no reason for her to be the target of such a heinous crime.

Within minutes of Sara and Carla having returned to the station to brief the team, they were once again called out to a nearby farm where a man had been shot and killed, despite teams of uniformed offers and SOCO still being in the area.

The villagers were now extremely  concerned that their community was under threat from a vicious killer with a hidden agenda.

From here on the story escalates until the climax.  Hold on to your seat, enjoy the ride, you won't be able to put this book down!

Very highly recommended.

Number 10 in the series and wow the author can still pull out all the stops to produce a nail-biting read. Set in rural England you wouldn't think that there would be much going on, " Wrong " there is so much happening that it keeps you glued to the pages. A farmer is devastated when his wife Gillian is killed in an explosion while setting off in his car, he has also received a threatening note prior to this. Everyone is completely shocked and can't ever imagine anyone wanting to hurt Gillian as she is such a kind loving person who adores her two children. The police with Sarah at the helm soon realise that there is so much more going on and all is not what it seems. A fantastic read which I can highly recommend.

Short, quick read mystery with familiar protagonists

Easy read, serial-killer police procedural w two likable detectives, who are hip-deep in a puzzling murder. Things get worse when a victim’s children are kidnapped, followed by more murders. Surprisingly the setting isn’t big city London or Manchester, but the town of Hereford.

This mystery is straightforward, so it was odd that the detectives didn’t figure it out. Maybe I wasn’t supposed to either, but I read a lot of crime fiction, enjoy box-ticking, and love hunting for culprits. In this case, I quit box-ticking early on, because only one person had plausible motives and could’ve done it.

3 stars. I liked it but didn’t love it.

Fabulous read from MC Comley. Book 10 in the DI Sara Ramsey series and and another original and perturbing case for Sara and Carla.

In this book the well loved wife of an unpopular farmer is blown up when driving his car. Was it an accident or was someone targeting the farmer? With more murders on adjoining farms and a kidnapping what is happening in this quiet rural community?

As usual Mel Comley has managed to weave enough red herrings seamlessly into the story to keep you guessing. Great book and roll on book 11.

Predictable

Guessed the offender within a few pages.
The reluctance to have anyone around and incidents occurring whilst officials still on the premises. Logically the only person who knew the farm well enough to sneak next door , commit the murder and get away without a trace was him.
The telling of the tale was well done, for once Sara's ego wasn't as prevalent as it normally is. Carla got the upper hand on more than one occasion , which was a breath of fresh air.

Comedy of errors

It was obvious early on who the killer was and I was amazed at the inept police investigation. The ending was so ridiculous considering her car was parked outside with the keys in the ignition. I'm sorry but this was the most disappointing of the series which I initially enjoyed but has got farcical. Time for DI Sara Ramsey to hang up her boots.

I loved this book. The suspense had be guessing right from the start to the end, I kept thinking I had figured it out then there would be another twist. I fully recommend this series. Every book has been really good and well written. I would recommend reading them in order though, as some back stories about the characters carry on from book to book which I like.
