A wonderful fun book about a girl in love with maps!

Finally I had the chance to read this one! I had my eyes on it for a while, then one of my libraries got in their collection… but apparently it went missing as it is still not on any shelves, and then I just decided to get it in English. XD

In this delightful book we meet Martha who loved loves maps. Like a lot. We start off with a map of the universe and with each two page spread we get closer to Martha and where she lives. It was just so much fun to get closer and closer. The maps were tons of fun and I loved the little texts that were added in the map that gave it just that little extra. You had so much to look at already and then you also had little notes and such. Perfect! I loved how eventually we visited Martha and got to see her life. Loved that little map on her desk and figure out what is on there. And I loved what happened in the later parts. Not much maps, but still oodles of fun and tons of positivity. Martha is such a fun character and I hope she has fun making the most of her youth and manages to make her goals come true. Whichever she wants, because she has a lot of fun ideas and tons of plans.

The art was just oodles of fun! I love love the style. How it feels like it was really made by a child. Playful. Colourful. Hope that makes sense.

All in all, I am so happy I got the chance to read this book and add it to my collection! I would recommend this to all~

Lots for kids to look at in this book full of detailed maps. I liked the progression of maps, from the solar system to the street to the bedroom and places in between. I could do without the map of her thoughts, etc but those pages would be fine for sharing with readers older than the 4 year olds I was reading to.

The book ‘Martha Maps It Out’ by Leigh Hodgkinson is an engaging picture book which explores self-discovery, through the eyes of Martha.

This book is excellent within the classroom as it teaches children about mindfulness and creativity. It also links with geography as the book introduces children to basic mapping concepts.
