Warrior #2

The Druids' Lair

Rate this book
AD 18, Britannia. Prince Caratacus arrives at the Druid sanctuary in the far west of the island of Britannia: the mountainous valleys of the Silurians. The prince endures initiation rites and proves his mettle in training - but what he does not expect to find is an enemy: a thuggish fellow student, Eboricus.

As the young soldiers-in-training are schooled in the art of war, it soon becomes clear Caratacus is far from the only student being tormented by Eboricus. Caratacus knows he must find a way to confront the bully - but a contest of strength is still far beyond him. And even his closest allies in this shadowy sanctuary may not be what they seem. . .

The second of, I believe, five e-book novellas based around the life of Caratacus, this is framed the same as the previous entry (The King in Rome, in that it is presented as Caratacus recounting his life - warts and all - to a minor Roman historian whilst in captivity/exile in Rome.

If that previous novella was centred around his younger life, then this one is around (roughly) his teenage years, where he is sent to be mentored by the Druids of Briton and initiated into their ways.

As is often the case, Caratacus must also find some way of dealing with the local bully, who is both older and stronger than the new initiates.

As a novella, this also must stand on it's own, as it were, complete with an opening, the main body of the story and then a conclusion within a relatively short number of (digital) pages!

Good but limited

This almost classifies as a short story. The narrative centres around a single incident. It moves the story on but I would prefer a longer read.

Enjoyed the read , but to call it a book is a little hard to take.
No sooner you start the book you have finished it ,it is no more than a money making short story.
Very disappointing.

Not my favorite. See my review for Warrior #1. More of the same here. I bought it and it is less than 100 pages, so I powered through. But will need to stop at book 2 in this series.
