In the Dark

Rate this book
A trilogy spun from a web of secrets, deceit, and lies and wrapped in a bow of a soul-crushing, forbidden, slow-burn love story.

Lilly
It's been over two years, and I still have no clue why Rhys stopped talking to me.
Suddenly, he pretended I didn't exist. He was cold, leaving the room every time I'd enter.

Truths became nothing but lies I'd been told. My life was a web of secrets spun by everyone I trusted, including him.

Until the night Rhys came clean. He wasn't who I was made to believe. And neither was I.

Rhys
Fate has thrown me a bone. I stayed away, did as I was told, and continued the charade that has been tearing me apart since I was seven years old.

Now the choice is mine—though I don't really have one. I want to believe Lilly will forgive me. But once I come clean that I am not her brother and why I was forced to stay away, there's no turning back.

In the blurb it was mentioned that Rhys was Lilly’s best friend for as long as she could remember. Any reader would realise that they were the mcs romantically involved.

Imagine my astonishment when I started reading and saw that Rhys was Lilly’s brother!!!! 😳
I had to go back and re-read the blurb because I was soooo confused.

The author undoubtedly was going for the shock value, which was accomplished, yet it didn’t work for all readers.

Both characters had grown up as siblings, so after the “obvious” revelation, it was hard for me to see them as a romantic couple!
No way!!!

Hi Book Friends,
After long conversations with my team, we decided to update Lilly and Rhys's blurb for the first book in the trilogy.
While I didn't want to give the big plot twist of their "relationship" away before readers pick up the book, review feedback has triggered this change, and I hope there will be no further confusion on the book's tropes and themes going forward. 🫶🏻

In the Dark (The Dark #1)
Written by: Danah Logan

When I started reading the prologue I realized In the Dark was going to take me on a wild ride, by the end of the book I couldn’t wait to get to the next book because this ride was not over and I needed to continue this trip!

Lilly McGuire is looking for a project topic. Well boy did she get one when she decided to do her journalism project about 4 missing girls, each had disappeared for 2 weeks then all of a sudden found. Unharmed, well taken care of with no recollection of what the person who took them was like. She jumped right in and that is when the headaches started to occur.

Rhys McGuire has anger flowing off of him. Anger mostly at his parents and Lilly believes he is angry with her as well. Siblings that at one time were inseparable are now virtually at war with each other. What happened to tear these two apart, to break what had always been so good?

What you would expect is not so at all. When Lilly’s headaches started is when the dark begins to unfold. Rhys has already been banished to the Dark for close to two years, he barely comes home. Lilly is about to enter into the Dark and what is discovered is an explosion of sorts. Can trust be earned back or will danger take centre stage?

The twists, the turns, and the lies Lilly and Rhys begin to keep add to the intrigue. The suspense continues to grow and this story never stops giving! Pages flipped quickly, the story continued to drag you into the dark while you were reading and what happened at the end, well it certainly wasn’t what I had expected. Bring on the next book, I need to know how dark this is going to get.

Oh my goodness In The Dark blew me away. Its the first book by new author Danah Logan and she hit it out of the park. It's also the first book in The Dark series and ends on a cliffhanger. I planned to only read a few chapters before bed but before I knew it, I had finished the entire book. Lily has no idea why her brother, Rhys and his best friend, Wes have completely abandoned her and stopped talking to her. What are they hiding and why is Lily being kept in the dark? This amazing book had so many twists and turns and will grab you and not let you go. Definitely recommend reading this series. Cannot wait for book 2!

I have 51 pages before I reach halfway and this is still very slow.

Honestly I don’t know what I was expecting with this book. The cover made me think it was a dark romance type book. Initially upon starting the book I was intrigued by the idea of Lily being possibly connected to the other kidnapped girls she learned about when completing a homework assignment.

Each chapter has Lily and her “brother”/best friend POV of the same scene which didn’t bother me but it barely added anything to the story.

I understand Lily is 17 almost 18 but she seems very immature when learning about her past from her “brother”. Most teenagers would’ve had demanded answers then distanced themselves from the only parents they have ever known to figure out how they feel about the truth.

Their parents should have never put Rhys in a position to keep their secrets because he knew Lily wasn’t his sister after they had been best friends prior to his parents raising her as their own. When their “dad” saw Rhys start having feelings for Lily that wasn’t brotherly because of Lily and Rhys’ best friend also having feelings for Lily they should have told her instead of forcing Rhys to become a duck to her for two years prior to Rhys telling her the truth or risk them separating them. Why force your son to avoid his sister for two years to the point that he doesn’t even live at home with his family??

I can't think of a better review to write for the beginning of 2021 than this review. There have been several debut books that blow me away, and In the Dark has definitely exploded up there to the top of the list. This story intrigued me from the moment I read the blurb. This thrilling YA novel takes you on a ride in the dark that will have you searching for the light.
Lilly was a well-rounded kick-butt female. I did have to remind myself that sometimes her actions were that of a 17-year-old high school girl. That said, I don't think it detracted from the story. She grew so much in this one book that you will want to reach out and hug her all while having her show you the sparring moves. The secrets she finds hiding in the dark will have you frantically turning the pages in this book to see the light.
Rhys, Den, and Wes all bring depth to this story. They take Lilly to a place where she can be grounded and safe. All of them in their unique way. The dynamics between them all is something you'd expect to see in any HS hierarchy of friends. It will also keep you wanting more about each of these individuals and what their story will be.
This author did a marvelous job of weaving a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It will have some guessing as to who "he" is and make you wonder if you are right or wrong (I love it when I guess wrong).
The plot is one that will go over three books. If you don't like cliffhangers, then wait to purchase all three at once. Me, I never mind them, as they keep me excited for the next in the series.
I genuinely loved this story and was kept engaged. The seamless transition between characters and timelines in the story was easy to follow and enjoyable to read.
I don't want to spoil too much, because there is a lot more I can say. What I will say is character development is spot on, the plot developed smoothly, and an intriguing storyline will keep you on the edge of the stage with this one. This reader gives it 5 pointe shoes and recommends it to anyone who likes a romantic suspense story, unlike anything you've read before.

Wow I was shocked when I realized that this was a debut, as I was captivated from cover to cover. This will definitely be an author to watch!
Both characters and plot were extremely well done and with a book so polished you'd normally expect the author to have a few books under their belt.
The plot will leave you slack jawed and the characters will worm their way into your hearts, making it impossible to look away from the get go.
Leaving my review here as I'm desperate for answers and diving into book 2 immediately.

This story is truly unique!!!

There are books that make your stomach drop once- this will make your stomach drop at least twice and also give you white knuckles from clinging to your kindle.

100/10 will definitely be adding to my list of “books to re-read” because I know I will pick up on more things each time I read it.

4.5 stars!

"Just be prepared for somewhat of a slow burn, with it being one continuous story, the suspense and heat level will steadily be rising." the author told me... and it's true! 😍
In the Dark was a little slow and somewhat long winded... still, somehow, it was perfect and it really worked for me!! 😊 I loved the double POV, I loved the characters, and l loved the whole 'feel' the story gave me. Drama... suspense... mystery... secrets... lies... love.... friendship... it's all there; perfectly 'balanced'! {Alles klópte gewoon!!}
Oh.... and I love the covers! 💜💚💙
For now, my rating for In the Dark is 4.5 stars, however this series definitely has the potential to become a 5 star series!!!
Can't wait to continue with book #2, Out of the Dark! And how lucky am I that I don't have to wait! 😉
Thank you Danah Logan for the ARC!! 😘

Not really knowing about this series but loving the blurb, I decided to go into the first book, and Wowza, this was an amazing start to the Dark Series and I didn't see this storyline coming. It blew me away with the way this story played out. The book starts with two siblings Lily and Rhys McGuire - something happened a few years ago and the two stopped talking and Rhys who once was Lily's biggest supporter and best friend moved out of the home. Now the pair are at the same school and Rhys still acts like she doesn't exist. The story gets exciting when Lily is tasked to do a news assignment for her journalism class. Lily not interested in politics or finance tales, decides to do a crime story and focuses on a kidnapper of young girls who is still to be caught. During the story, Lily starts to get migraines and visions - the more she reads articles. How can that be when nothing is familiar? About halfway through the novel, we read as Rhys comes back and spills the beans to Lily and that part was like OMFG what else have they kept Lily "in the dark" of? Book #1 ended on a major cliffhanger and I am now looking forward to reading Book #2 and continuing the story and I am hoping we will get all our answers to the questions we had in Book #1. If you love family stories and romantic suspense with an edge then In the Dark by Danah Logan is the read for you.

I received this as an ARC for an honest review. You can not help but become invested in the story, along with the characters. It starts off as a journalism project that leads to a migraine. Secrets that were buried are coming to light. Once I started reading, I knew that I was hooked and wanted to read more. I can’t wait to read more. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Dnf at 42% cuz im not subjecting myself to this shxtty book.
I don’t even know where to start,
this is the most incestual book i’ce read and i’ve read a cousin love story, TWICE.
I dont even understand how the fact that they are “siblings” is not mentioned in the summary or whatever.
It was to the point that when the point of view changed from the MFC to her brother i did a double take and had to go back to make sure that i read wrong. I didn’t.
If the incest is not enough, the story is supposed to be a slow burn but its so fast paced. It feels like it was written by a 15 years old on wattpad who lusted over her stepbrother her whole life.
I am also very seriously worried that no one in the reviews commented that they are technically siblings. The amount of time that i underlined “our parents, my brother, etc” to remind myself that they grew up like siblings made me want to throw up everytime.
I dont care that they are not related, she thought they were. They grew up together.
ALSO don’t get me started on the fact it’s a dark romance and she is 17 and he is 18, i dont want to read about a 17 years old fucking her brother, (thank god i didn’t and i don’t know if its gonna happen but im not taking my chances)

Anyway this book deserves 0 stars for wasting my time, made me want to cancel my KU subscription. Still disgusted 🤮🤮🤢🥴

In the Dark is book one in The Dark series and Danah Logan’s debut novel. In the Dark is a twisted new adult romantic suspense. From the start, Danah Logan captivates you in Lilly McGuire’s story. There’s so much Lilly is unaware of and as the title states, she believes she’s “in the dark'' about many things. As the lies unravel and the life Lilly once believed was her’s fades, she’s left wondering who she can trust.

In the Dark has it all, secrets, lies, betrayal, mystery, intrigue, suspense, forbidden romance, drama, real friendships, and a mastermind stalker. Lilly and Rhys are two very likable characters and both are caught in the secrets of Lilly’s past. Lilly struggling to reconcile with the truth puts her in the path of danger unbeknownst to her. This book was a page-turner and I was devouring every new piece of information that was revealed about Lilly’s past.

Simply put this book is addicting and enthralling. It’s slow, yet perfectly paced for the revelations that occur. Danah Logan has crafted a masterful romantic suspense with an epic cliffhanger. I’m so glad I could dive right into the second book because believe me when I say, you don’t want to miss out on this book, it’s a must-read!

Captured

Is it May 25th yet? I really need it to be. This novel is dark and twisted, however in this particular book, I didn't come across any triggers for the average person. Beware before you start this series that this book leaves you dangling from a cliff and you will want to read the next book. The author has warned of heightened intensity and probable triggers.

With that said, this book owned me. The writing is first- person between the main character and the love interest. There are a couple of short chapters written from the antagonist's POV. This group of friends is willing to go to death for each other. Lilly and Rhys's relationship takes a few twists and turns that you might not see coming. Lilly's best friend mentions her bf a lot, and we haven't met him. I want to know if he has any real sustenance or if he is only a place holder.

This is a book about a family who loves and protects fiercely. They've experienced trauma in the past and will again. I recommend this book for anyone who likes mysteries with a good deal of romance.

FYI, this review is for the whole set because once you read the first, you’ll NEED to read the rest 🙌🏼 trust me. You’ll not
only want to, but you’ll need to.

I devoured the first two books in one sitting, and only took a little longer with the third because of life circumstances. It kept me engaged throughout, always guessing who HE was and then when I thought I had it all figured out, the author drops another head scratcher on our lap! 🤯🤯🤯🤯

I consider myself to be pretty good at figuring out plots but this one kept me guessing, which is AMAZING.

The romance was a little light in the first book but it picks up by the second and by then I was so fully invested, that I wanted it all. These character are sure to love long beyond the pages of these books 🥰🥰 Swoon, Wes is mine.

Point blank, if you love suspense with a touch of romance then you definitely need this series in your life.

One of the best endings/cliffhangers I’ve read in a while!! I thought the beginning was a little slow but I was also intrigued the whole time. When Lilly started having her migraines and Rhys wasn’t helping her I wanted to know what was going on. What was causing the migraines, what happened a few years ago for these siblings to be complete strangers to each other, etc.

The story picked up quickly and I as HOOKED. I needed more of Rhys and Lilly. I needed to know how they were going to make this whole situation work. And again, the cliffhanger at the end made me so happy I had the next book to start right away!

This book had the perfect amount of suspense and romance. Be sure to check out this series, you won’t regret it!

A huge thank you to the author for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

What a freaking fantastic start to this series! I am so happy I stumbled upon Danah's work.

This book had it all: suspense, forbidden romance, angst, slow burn, passion and did I already say suspense?! At first I thought the relationship between the two characters was so strange and that I knew where the storyline was going, but I was so wrong - in the best way!

I love that even with the insane background Lilly has she is still a well-rounded teenage girl. This story is so much better with this kind of character rather than a broken, messed up girl. Rhys is also a great character. I love how he comes around from the facade he has been putting on for years.

I really thought I had this story line figured out. I am so glad that I don't and am very much looking forward to the rest of the series.

This was my first book by this author and it certainly captured my attention right from the start!! There was so much angst, suspense and mystery in the plot, i really couldn't put it down.
Lilly is the MFC and I just loved her, you can tell she is a strong and independent girl, but deep down inside she is hurting and vulnerable. There was just something I connected to straight away! I just loved her struggles with Rhys and how their relationship develops as the story progressed.

I really don't want to give to much away......but if you are a fan of slow burn dark romance, full of mystery, lies, suspense and loads of manipulation then you need to read this book!!

I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

Secrets lies and suspense.
This book is completely addicting and hard to put down. I was reading pages and chapters at work when I had downtime. This book was well written and great story/character building. I questioned a lot of things in this book. It wasn't really predictable and I liked the twists and turns the author provides.

Lilly starts an assignment at school about the kidnapping of multiple girls. Lilly starts seeing "visions" from a time she doesn't recognize. She can't sleep or get out of her own head. Her "brother" notices something is wrong and confronts her about it which brings them down a dark scary past that they both take head-on. This book is a cliffhanger and well worth the read!

This was a fantastic start to the Dark Series! Everything you think that you m ow gets blown all to heck! This one right here is packed full of lies, secrets, betrayal oh and let’s not forget about the stalker… The author pulls you into the story from the very first and and has you trying to figure out who is good who is bad why has Lilly been in the dark for so long. There is tons of mystery suspense and romance throughout and then you get to that epic cliffy leaving you feeling incomplete and dying to dive into book two because you have to know what is going to happen! Hands down and amazing start to a brand new series and deserves way more that 5 stars as a debut novel! This is an absolute must read!

Oh my goodness! This book has everything I needed: suspense, forbidden romance, drama, likeable characters, angst. Lilly and Rhys are caught in a web of secrets and danger, and I am just sitting here trying to recover from the onslaught of emotions that this book put me through. And the cliffy 😱. . . . .
If, like me, you are a fan of Brittney Sahin's books, then you will definitely enjoy In the Dark. Where Sahin is a master of suspense, Danah Logan has managed to deliver a suspenseful masterpiece of her own. It is a more than solid debut book, and I am itching to read the next one. Don't hesitate to give this author a chance, read the book right now!

Lilly believes she is "in the dark," she is struggling and confused. What she doesn't realize yet is just how long she has been there. What happened in her past? Who is the good guy and who isn't? I was instantly addicted and eager to figure this story out. This book had it all from mystery to romance and all the drama. I was craving a new series and this one takes the cake. I don't want it to end but I can't put it down!

What a page turner! I couldn't put it down. I was instantly sucked into the story line and clinging onto the pages to find out what happens next. There is suspense, deceit, mystery and even some unexpected romance. There are enough breadcrumbs to make you think you know what is going to happen and then BAM, curveball! As soon as I was done with Book 1, I could not wait to read Book 2! This series is addicting and I know it is only going to get better!

After not understanding why her brother and best friend, Rhys, just up and pushes Lilly away. She's finally accepting that there never going to be close again everything gets flipped upside down! She's doing a project for school on a criminal case to find out that she was the first victim of the story she's researching. She starts having flash backs and eventually confides in Rhys and nothing is the same after what he has to say!

What an exceptional debut novel! This is a high suspense book with so many twists and turns. Lilly is a girl left wondering why her best friend/brother has stopped talking to her. Rhys has his reasons that make sense when they come to light but their are still so many questions. Fabulous read.
