I believe I would give this 2 stars no matter what, but heads up for audiobook listeners, the content is poorly edited and about every 5th sentence the first half of the sentence would repeat. I’ve never dealt with that in the 100+ audiobooks I’ve listened to, and it really made the book less enjoyable for me

Wow I just found a great author. This an FBI Thriller and wow it never stopped from the first turn of the page. I look forward to reading much more of Ms. Dark's work!

I have to say I love the bad guys in this book. They are definitely very sick and very disturbed. And I love how Mia, just does not quit, she does not give up. She is such a strong female protagonist, even when everything is going against her. I look forward to reading See Her Hide.

Dumbest FBI Agent. Ever.
The fugitive trope is not new, but it is one that must be carefully constructed to hold any sense of believability. Sadly, this one is lacking on several fronts.

I don't make a habit of picking books apart. I have no desire to diminish another person's work. So, when Agent Mia North shot a man, reached to see if he still had a pulse, and thought to herself "dead, but still warm," I almost quit the book then. But I was hoping it was just a fluke. One ridiculous moment doesn't make a bad book. I should have stopped.

Agent North continues to make ridiculous decisions like she's a rookie with no experience, and each one lands her into more trouble. No kidding. Interestingly, she is arrested and thrown into the jail's general population with criminals she's dealt with on a professional level. Hmmmm...

It also bothered me immensely that the agent seemed to be married to what many would call a "Beta Male." His character won't win any awards and didn't mesh well with Mia's personality. I won't comment on more since it would involve spoilers. But this novel quickly became an unintended farce as very predictable events occurred that any average reader would have recognized. Yet these events seemed to stump the experienced FBI agent. I couldn't count how many times these events caused epic eyerolls on my part.

If you have no issue with predictability and stupidity in the main character, give this one a try. Maybe you'll like it. Obviously, someone did since the author continued to write this character in novels following this one. However, please be aware of two more things. If you're grabbing the audiobook, narrator Maggie Schneider made this sound like a first read, which did not enhance the entertainment value. Also, there is a pretty big cliffhanger at the end of this story. That cliffhanger doesn't worry me, though. I have no desire to find out how Agent Mia North will continue to display her ineptness in the next episode.

I think I found another FBI agent crime series !! Go Agent Mia North ! It wasn’t the mayor but he still was related to him so you were on the right track

The writer did ZEROOO research on the Texas Judicial System. Everything was completely inaccurate. For instance, Det. North couldn’t be charged with Capital Murder! Murder in the 1st degree, yes. If the guy killed HER it would be Capital. It’s a 5 second Texas penal code search! Then, the indictment was presented at her arraignment, the day after she was arrested?? Uh, hellooo…It has to be taken to a Grand Jury first..which is within 90 days from arrest. The DA had already filed a motion to seek the death penalty with in 2 days of her arrest?? Really? Realllly?? Ugh. I could go on and on. DNF after about the 100th inaccuracy.

Had high hopes from the goodreads rating... the summary sounded intresting...done before but intresting. That the only nice thing I can say about this book... The audio version repeats sentences but I guess the editor didnt care enough to fix it... THe authour add information where none is need.. imates taunting the FBI agent..saying pss pss pss like calling a cat... really didnt see that coming. or just left stuff out that would have answered questions .. got two hours into this book and wasted my time. Please someone get a police source to help iorn out the lack of knowlege the author has.. her last book she had people clapping at a press confrence and this book the handling of a FBI agent through processing... SOMEONE pounded the sqaure peg through the round hole to make this book work... and it shows

This book is a high-velocity thriller sprint. Mia North gets framed for murder, thrown in jail, breaks out, and has to clear her name. The pacing is tight, the energy’s locked-in, and it reads fast. Very “I’ll just do one more chapter” until you're halfway done. It delivers on what it promises- quick tension, nonstop movement, and a female lead who’s operating in full crisis-management mode. If you want character-depth or emotional nuance, this one’s not doing that. The plot is running the show. And yeah, it uses a lot of familiar thriller tropes, but if you’re in the mood for a straight-up chase story, it hits the marks. It’s also the first in a series, so it wants to build out the Mia North storyline over time. If you like sticking with a character across multiple books, this sets up that runway. It’s a solid, fast read. Not groundbreaking, but it does what it’s built to do. I’d call it a B+ for the genre — super consumable, super quick, and good if you just want something intense without getting too heavy.

Mia is an FBI agent whose family is devoted to serving the law in its various agencies. She works for the FBI and is relentlessly looking for the kidnapper of two teenagers. In this search, she seems obsessed with involving a politician in the crimes, and after a lot of misinterpreted actions, she is found guilty of killing an ex-con who kept on harassing her family. She is convicted and during her transfer to another prison she sees the opportunity of fleeing and does so, and that's when her troubles really begin! Who is after her, and why? How is she going to prove she is not responsible for all the crimes that she supposedly committed? I really want to learn the answers, so I'll have to read the next book on this series.
This is a must-read if you enjoy action-packed stories with good plots!

I know, it’s supposed to be about the book, not the narrator. The book wasn’t terrible, but it is one of a series, so it leaves you hanging. I thought the pace was a bit slow, but it still kept my interest. I probably won’t read any of the other books though. The narrator was TERRIBLE! First, she’s reading a book based in Dallas, TX, and she has a strong Northern accent. I can easily get over that, I mainly just thought it was humorous. Second, she can’t pronounce certain words, like Amarillo. Third, The recording hasn’t been edited, so if she doesn’t like the way she says a sentence, you hear her repeat the sentence. Lastly, if a word ends with the letter G, she can’t pronounce it. Ring is “rin”, wrong is “ron”, etc. Needless to say, I was so frustrated that every time she couldn’t pronounce the letter G, I wanted to punch myself in the face! If you want to try this book, do yourself a favor, read it, don’t listen to it.

Admittedly, this isn't my favorite genre, but with that said here are my thoughts.

This is the book equivalent of watching a bad horror movie and yelling at the screen at the characters who decide to go investigate the strange sound in the basement.

The main character, Mia North, supposedly one of the brightest stars in her department, but in several scenes, despite having the information in front of her, can't put together simple leaps of logic and she is dumbfounded when she finally realizes what you figured out three chapters ago.

Random petty side note: You don't fist a pistol. That just sounds weird. She used this description three or four times.

The "twist" ending isn't really that satisfying. Not one to rave about, but it's a read.

MIA North is a FBI agent who hunts pedophiles and murderers. When she is setup and kills a predator she had been following, she is charged with murder and sentenced to jail.

When the opportunity to escape prison occurs, Mia becomes a fugitive with a mission of proving her innocence and finding out who set her up, in the meantime she also must protect her family from a murderer.

The audiobook narrator of this book was not great so the story wasn’t as fun to listen to. This is the first of three books that continue with the story of Mia’s search for answers etc. If you can swallow the improbable things that had to happen for this story to unfold, you’ll enjoy it.

Narration is terrible—out of dozen of audiobooks I’ve listened to, this is the first one where there is no discernible difference between the dialogue of different characters, so it’s hard to keep conversations straight. Editing is very poor and every so often an entire sentence or phrase is directly repeated. There was also a two minute span of the book where the track kept playing and the time progressed but there was no sound at all. Story itself is pretty outlandish and rapid pacing for the first part is unbelievable, even for this genre. Also ends on a cliffhanger with an incomplete narrative. Both writing and narration left lots to be desired.

Book 1 of 4 in the MIA North series.
The storyline was fine. I listened to the audiobook so it went by quickly.

Plot: An FBI agent is wrongly accused of a premeditated murder of a previous criminal she arrested in the past. It seemed like she was set up due to her looking into another case she was attempting against a high profile man who had many state, federal and government influences. The story takes you to her steps and finding the truth to prove her innocence.

An issue that has nothing to do with the story is the audiobook I listened through CHIRP wasn’t edited properly so the restart of the narrator wasn’t removed. It happened several times throughout the book.

Two things.

1. The audiobook version is more of a two star for editing and quality issues. I listened to this and there were numerous repetitions and re reads. I also like alternate voices which help differentiate characters. This is not apparent.

2. The book was a bit of a outlandish idea of how an FBI agent can go on the run. Some details you can see coming. And the ending cliffhanger sort of made me more disappointed than anything. I shouldn’t have to buy your second book, IMO, to find out what would be an intricate detail. Maybe I am wrong.

The story is interesting in concept but it is a bit ridiculous that the FBI would fall for the framing of agent North by a politician's brother and is the GPS and cell network really so bad in the US ? Also why didn't they do a ballistic check on the bullet that killed the bus driver ? Mia took Carl's gun so it must have been someone else's gun that shot her and as an agent how come Mia never kept hold of one of the guns she had chance of in order to shoot Jerry instead of trying to fight him. Also how come she is still wanted at the end when all the evidence is there to clear her ?

This is the first in the series about FBI Special Agent Mia North. She is currently investigating a case where a young girl has been missing. She becomes obsessed with trying to find the girl and others that are missing.

In trying to find the missing girl and the killer, Mia is now in prison serving time for murder. Now she must find a way to hunt down the killer and who framed her and how is she going to do that from prison?

A great book that will keep you guessing and turning those pages. There will be a follow up to this one in the next book, See Her Hide.

Mia North is in prison for 10yrs for a murder she didn't commit, she was an FBI Special Agent and she was framed by a corrupt politician. She is the mother of a young daughter and she has a great husband. Her only way out is to escape and clear her name, and eventually her ex-partner puts his life on the line to help her out. This should have been a good story but it just didn't hold my attention at all. Mia is a bit of a whiner and she got on my nerves, don't think I will be reading any others in the series.

Very enjoyable, constant action, and one fire cracker agent that won't give up despite all things being done to deter her. The "bad guy" in this book certainly lives up to everything evil in a character and more which only helps you root for the "good guy" even that much more.

It's really more a 3 star book her choice of characters and ability to make you cringe and try to warn the other characters when they were around is why I bumped it up to a 4 star rating.

I was interested in reading this book do to the ratings it had received. Even though this book was "an against the odds" synopsis, it started well and very interesting. However, the plot and the storyline just stalled after that. Alot of North's getting out of tight spots were more "hmmmm" than exciting. The ending had a great twist, but not enough to save the entire work. A 3.75 out of 5 rating.

Generally when it comes to fiction, in any type of media, there is a suspension of disbelief that you endure to get lost in the story.

That just never came. The plot doesn’t make sense. The timeline doesn’t make sense. Overall I liked the character and finished, and even continued the series, but I spent far too much time wondering how they got from point A to point B in the first 10 chapters in the less than a week of time it took.

Kept me guessing till the end...

Heck of a book, It was okay in the beginning a little slow. Once the book picked up I couldn't put it down. Tried to go bed but the book was on my mind, so I stayed up till about 1:30 am to finish it. All I can say is if Mia was a man she would have balls of steel, cause she doesn't back down. Highly recommend can't wait to read the next 2 books...

Mia North was framed for murder then sent to prison. She’s innocent and was framed by a shady politician. Mia went lonely wolf and is paying the price fir her impulsive actions. Mia escapes but she’s still trying to solve that last case of a missing girl. David her partner needs help solving the case so they work out a way to communicate. A ruthless US Marshall is determined to bring Mia in because the deaths keep piling up.

FBI agent Mia North is very focused and committed to her job and some may even call her obsessive. She gets framed for a murder and finds herself on the wrong side of the law.

The book is a riveting page turner. Mia North is a very likable character. I was disappointed when I came to the end of the book only to find out that I have to buy the next book in the series to find out what happens next.
