A crew, scattered across enemy lines
A father, separated from his daughter
A daughter who will not wait for rescue

The bounty for bringing down a major crime syndicate may have removed Captain Evridiki “EB” Bardacki’s immediate financial needs, but no freighter captain wants to fly empty between the stars.

A cargo mission to run a blockade seems within his crew’s unique mix of talents, and he agrees to supply weapons to one side of a stalemated civil war in the Estutmost star system.

The sudden collapse of the stalemate puts EB on the wrong side of the front lines from his adopted daughter.

He took down a crime syndicate to protect her once—what’s a planetary military or two?

I enjoyed the first book, but I had some issues with this one. I found it even more difficult to ignore some of the problems with the author’s Universe which really didn’t make sense at times.
The story starts with a contract that EB should not have taken and it is pretty much downhill from then on. When the author decide to make the Evasion’s armament unloading to coincide exactly with their customers suffering a major pandemic and assault, I began to have even more doubts, especially as the story basically became one disaster after another.

To be honest I didn’t really like a lot of the story, there is a lot going on, but I prefer the characters I am following to be more than just flotsam being carried along. If possible I would have given 2.5 stars, but I quite liked Trace so I have increased this to three.

I recently saw a member of the Village Idiot Party who whilst insulting an essayist from whose videos I learned a good bit, complain to her that I list other trans creators. The Snowflake (attention seeking, unselfaware US baby-man) epidemic continues unabated. A trigger warning then.

The channels which I mention include cosplayer, socialist, lesbian, political historian, WOC, physically challenged, military boardgamer, het, redhaired, Norwegian, mathematician, older, bi, farmer, physicist, socialist, sewist, economist, trans, tall, political analyst, pensioner, French, intersex, autist, primatologist, miniatures painter, queer, married, engineer, anarchist, culture critic, cis, Bahamian, science communicator, anthropologist and other creators known as Women.

Others almost as threatening include, writer, ginger, fashion historian, Canadian, archaeologist, other LGBTQI+, zoologist, communist, younger, boat restorer, reenactor, philosopher, tailor, chemist, game historian, other neurodivergent, Scottish, miniatures builder, anthropologist, wood worker, other BIPOC, science educator, Ugandan, linguist and other creators known (outside the US) as Human Beings.

If the voices insist, seek emergency therapy, the nearest Mahayana temple and/or our Catholic exorcism.

My feelings towards these nutcases is similar to that of the 13 Ukrainian marines defending Snake Island, when their surrender was demanded by the Russians. Their famous response was "Russian warship, go f@ck yourself." Slava Ukraini. Slava Heroyam. Crimea is Ukraine.

This writer's strength is simply that he writes adult standard prose. Against many Kindle loans his books seem stellar. Stewart has a history of delivering adult versions of the usual boom-boom, spacey-space story.

Whenever future societies are described in these books including his, they are capitalist. Whether monarchical, corporatist, imperial or military rule the economic system is capitalist.

The world building always includes the accompanying evils as normal to the human condition. Propaganda by any other name.

The characters here are more thinly drawn than is usual for this writer. He mentions relationships but does not explore them. The pacing seems rushed and character depth suffers.

Some reader will immediately reference the lack of character depth in the "Foundation", which is true but those books were a story of Human civilisation not individuals. Humanity and the robots were the two main characters.

The setting is a sketchy three way conflict between an agricultural section of the planet, a more industrial section and the spacers who control orbital space and trade.

The hard done by agricultural producers are a mix of cooperatives, communes, unions, etc, which suggests at least, a socialist adjacent society. There is no sense of how that society's government operate, the army supported and urban areas managed.

The station personnel suffer a coup for Reasons. The new leader is morally conflicted. To prevent loss of life, the agricultural sector is blockaded until they surrender their holdings to the corporatists. Reminiscent of US efforts to bring "Peace" to Ukraine.

The bad industrial oligarchy is treated almost as a force of nature, not evil incarnate. That is the extent of the world building. The characters in other of his series are far more compelling. The theme is the equivalence of both planetary societies. The resolution was disappointing.

Consider treating this as a hostile site. 🤔

Goodreads discourse does not exist. As example, I had received for several years many nasty and sometimes threatening comments for my formerly mild opinions of objectively bad Kindle loans. The culmination of the threats and the comment streams was the response to my review of Powers of the Earth by Travis Corcoran.

Travis Corcoran self-described as libertarian (now anarcho capitalist without millions), veteran, employee of an unnamed US agency, advocate for the return of chattel slavery (popular US position with current prison labour to be supplemented forced labour prisons for the homeless, Van and RV residents inciting no outrage), admirer of Putin (popular US position with the MAGA and federal government).

My personal communist judgement was that the tale of a heroic twat enlisting the military in overthrow of the US government in order that he not pay taxes was unhealthy, dangerous and now prophetic.

He and six fellow patriots were incensed and spent pages of ink over about a year, demanding my engagement with their awful political and not very bookish opinions.

I was gifted a new understanding of socialism's inherent evil, the social good that is slavery, the danger to society that empathy represents, my lack of intelligence, the narcissism demonstrated by my refusal to engage and more.

I had entertained hope that a definitive explanation for the pointless deployment of all French air units to the Italian border rather than the anticipated 1940 German advance. Life disappointed once more. The irony of this episode was painful.

Claes Rees Jr aka cgr710 now ka Clayton R Jesse, Jr (no longer identifying as Nazi) wrote a final comment. After referencing the contents of my last message exchange with a Goodreads friend, he grandly declared that They had "won" (?).

I discovered that They, including many thuggish volunteers, had launched a deluge of sexual, racist and similar comments against apparently every female creator which I mentioned.

The book reviewer, theoretical physicist, literary critic, miniatures gamer and other creators were not impressed.

Despite that, the world's overabundance of unpleasantness was certainly increased and an accurate self-portrait of the Snowflake (vicious, woman-hating US man-child demanding attention) to a multinational audience was delivered.

Quite the victory. Goodreads is certainly a reader's forum. There are BooKTubers to direct the reader to safer, saner more useful reader sites.

Ominous music begins. 😊 The comment gangs are a feature not a flaw, of this site. Consensus defined, established and defended. Quite ingenious use of Gestapo/KGB practice. In that spirit, These sad gangs, the writers who encourage Them, the Kindle -Goodreads who enable Them engage in not only the nasty comment but the doxxing, the stalking, the threatening, the hacking and more.

I gather from my YouTube visits that these are not only acceptable behaviours in the US but all the rage. Given that statistically most members are US readers, that might be concerning to others.

Reads with Rachel channel received her first threat after posting a Goodreads review criticising a romance title over racist, ableist elements. Goodreads deleted the review labelling it "hate speech" and threatened to remove her account. She loaded a video to her channel in its stead. She received a channel comment that she "should die".

The sweet, sweet stench of US free speech is intoxicating.

Fit Danielle Reads had her Kindle library and internet access blocked after she had the temerity to challenge an obvious and documented Amazon double billing with Amex. Neither Amex nor customer were well pleased.

Kindle/Goodreads gave over my limited message history to these maniacs, which allowed a request made through Pine Gap Centre that Australian Intelligence interrogate the one friend whom I occasionally messaged.

The attempt at my personal information failed. This only concerned Amazon after we began sharing that bizarre event. Alterations to pages and options were undone, lurkers whom I had not been Allowed to remove were all disappeared, among other actions.

I also received a message announcing that Kindle would no longer support Goodreads and the icon removed. My future safety was now assured. 🙂 No apology or acknowledgement of the crimes were given.

A seventh ex-employee of EBay was sentenced for harassment of a couple whose small ecommerce channel was deemed unkind to EBay. The couple were awarded millions and the ex-employee had been the Chief of EBay Global Security or some such.

Given the new protections afforded US data firms, I expect many more incidents.

Several precautions, which will make you safer. Remove all personal information from profile and avoid messaging. Remove Lurkers, those friends who never post. They are likely monitors for gangs or employee dummies, neither harmless nor admirers.

Given the Goodreads penchant for Alteration of customer pages, removal of negative reviews and other action, the screenshot of the odd, ugly and threatening are invaluable. These should suffice.

Kindle are a more serious threat. Do Not use Kindle Files, Calendar, Email or Contacts. Amazon employees read customer emails with neither permission nor notice. Make of that what you will.

Do Not "purchase" Ebooks from Kindle. You do not own the book and Amazon may erase any or all titles at whim. You own only the device and if a Kindle even that seems conditional. There are BooKTubers to direct the reader to alternative vendors for ebooks and tablets or alternatives to ebook purchase altogether.

All Silk searches should of course, be innocuous and non-critical.

Any temporary immunity you may enjoy rests on the whims of mad men and women, both employee and members. They seem lacking in any non-Randian morality or healthy socialisation but are US patriots with all that implies. Ominous music ends. 😊

Be well and may we all find Good Reading! 🤗

Another great entry in the Evasion series in the Scattered Stars universe. I like this universe a lot, it's got loads of great opportunities for growth and storytelling. This book doesn't advance the storyline too much, but it's an interesting story of another job gone slightly wrong, and the crew looking to make a difference. I like the twist that the story took about midway or a little later, realizing that not everything is as black and white with good guys and bad guys.

Maybe not my favourite book in this universe, but I feel like it was necessary for developing the characters more. Trace especially had good growth and it's interesting to watch her growing up in such a unique and often dangerous setting. This book really seems to set up the next real story that will push things forwards, which is hinted at near the end of the book. Looking forward to the next one!

Captain Evridiki “EB” Bardacki of the freighter Evasion (ebook) have been hired to carry weapons through a blockade to arm one of the sides. Then he is separated from his navigator and lover, his adopted daughter, and the ships medic. They have to survive and help deal with both disease and a member of the syndicate who knew that had been left in Trace’s head. With the Evasion captured by the blockading forces, EB has to use Discretion (ebook) to somehow force a peace on the warring planet. As usual Glynn Stewart has a fun and compelling tale.

I like Glynn Stewart's books, but hate his them they Trans pronouns.

Glynn writes terrific stories, but they have become difficult to read because of his use of nonsensical pronouns. A person is not they or them. A man who is XY and thinks he is a female should be HeShe and an XX who thinks they are male is a SheHe. Free speech, means I can not be compelled to participate in someone else's fantasy. A person who thinks they are Napolean can not compel me to call them Emperor.

Could not decide on 3 or 4 stars

The story line is pretty good, lots of action and of course the heroes win. But, there was a
lot of story line that did not lend itself to the main line. It is nice two people are in love but there is an awful lot of the book taken up by that line. There is a lot of just plain filler. That being said I did finish the book and only skimmed about twenty pages. So all in all not bad

2nd book of Scattered Stars: Evasion series
After Evasion, EB is looking for work for the freighter.
Decides on running a blockade to supply weapons - all within the crews' capabilities -
EXCEPT the timing.
What follows is a good plot with some twists, character development and tense situations all
of are well written.
Looking forward to more.

not Glynn’s best

Soooo… I do like the prose and the world building. I do not enjoy the little girl POV and the overall lack of anything exceptional about the main characters. Their actions are mainly reactions. And as I have to compare to the other Scattered Stars series… they are a bit boring compared to Kira, sorry.

Not Bad

This sequel follows the first book well enough yet at some point it fails to maintain the same level of interest as book 1. Decent character and plot development with some interesting new angles added, and some resolution of story threads by the end of this installment. Unsure if I retain sufficient interest to continue the series.

A continuation of the Scattered Stars: Evasion series. Fast-paced, immersive space adventure. Some characters are well-developed but the ship's navigator is barely sketched in, despite him having lots of potential.

The new world was interesting. Less-successful was a retread of a plot line from the first book.

Action and heart

You have to know upfront that running a blockade will have consequences. But money talks when your a freighter with no payload. That's only the beginning of the headache as an old nemesis raises their head. Action ensues and tensions rise before resolving. Looking forward to more adventure.

Great sci fi adventure

The body count is very high, but I've learned to expect that from Stewart. Lan shines in Discretion, and I fell in love with them and their intriguing past. EB is a fantastic lead character, and the adventures of his crew are definitely page-turners.

excellent

Kudos to Glynn Stewart for penning this excellent sequel to his novel “Evasion”. If anything, “Discretion“ is even faster paced and full of more edge-of-the-seat suspense than book 1. A great read.

Segunda parte de este libro, en la que la tripulación se ve envuelta en una guerra civil. Todos son muy listos, actúan muy bien, cada personaje está en el lugar adecuado para que todo se resuelva y acaba bien. Buenas escenas de acción. B-
