Can you identify the key qualities of a committed, passionate, and healthy disciple of Jesus? Chuck Lawless, a respected professor, pastor, and church consultant, discovered that many pastors haven’t thought deeply about that question. He wrote this book to provide answers and transform churches for the better. Many church leaders know their communities well and who they are aiming to make disciples of Christ. But too often they haven’t thoroughly articulated their goals and painted a vision for what a disciple looks like within their specific communities. In this book, Dr. Chuck Lawless provides a model for church leaders to build committed disciples of Christ. In Disciple, Chuck LawlessDefines biblical discipleship and explores why church leaders sometimes neglect to teach what a faithful and committed disciple of Jesus isGuides pastors and church leaders in developing an effective discipleship model and process for their churchesExplains the potential obstacles to a thriving discipleship program and how to overcome themWhen a church is filled with passionate and healthy followers of Jesus, there’s a sense that something special is happening. Are you ready to unleash that power in your congregation?
Chuck Lawless has a gift for poignantly and simply communicating truth. He is refreshingly honest, vulnerable, and hopeful as he pleads with the church to make disciples and then equips the church with plenty of “how to’s” starting with the leaders in the church. I am applying what I’ve read!
Easy and profitable read. This isn’t the first book on discipleship I’d recommend, but it’s on the list. I appreciate the exhortation to “just do something” and agree that when shifting what a church is currently doing to more effectively make disciples is almost always a better idea than scrapping your current model and starting over.
This is a very practical and simple work provided a very passionate man. The message is great even though it is not complex. Lawless is very direct in stating the importance of discipleship for the contemporary Church. The work is encouraging for those seeking to faithfully pursue biblical discipleship and practical enough to help take immediate positive action.
I minister in South Africa and although our situation is different this book is simple, practical, and relates to the work of discipleship all over the world.
A practical and clear resource. However, it’s not all that distinct from other works on discipleship and at times may resort to a “checklist” approach to discipleship.
