With wonderful accounts of the Shakespearean England from her youth to Restoration England to which she returned, this is the rags-to-riches story of Elizabeth of Bohemia.
This is detailed, well researched, and almost too much info, to be honest. There's not much known about this daughter of James I, and this filled that gap nicely.
A comprehensive biography of one of history's most unfortunate princesses, Elizabeth Stuart. Oman has extensive descriptions of the opulence of Elizabeth's early life and how her spoiled lifestyle was one of the major factors in teaching her to live beyond her means later in life. The information surrounding the marriage contract negociations, death of Prince Henry, and marriage to Frederick V of Palatine were what I found most useful (since the paper I used it for was based on the English perception of the marriage at the time). The book, although it is scholarly, often reads almost like a novel and is both enjoyable and informative. Providing an abundance of evidence and information about the politics and people around the time Frederick was considering accepting the crown of Bohemia, this was both a fun read and wonderfully informative. For anyone who is interested in Elizabeth, the Winter Queen, her life, and the politics and society of the time.
