This author messes up the ending in every book I have read. In trying to tie it all up in neat knots, she essentially ensures justice is never served or glosses over it.
In the book, Strictly confidential, the H never apologizes for breaking trust back when they were young or later when they meet later and he ends up reading her personal diary.
In Witchy woman, despite not having a good relationship with her mother for over 15 years, the h forgives her on the strength of a phone call.
In this book, Midnight Confessions, the h and her sister were sexually abused the entire life since their mother married their stepfather but her mother is again forgiven despite not supporting and believing her own daughters and they gloss over the fact that someone who is in the business of justice can escape it so easily.
