Rick only meant to go to a conference in Vegas, but he ended up with more than he'd bargained for.
Rick loves his son Dennis more than anything, and never regrets that one night with the handsome alpha—Alan. But he does wish that he knew enough about the other man to tell him that he's a father. However, his search is renewed when it's clear just how much their son wants to know his missing parent.
Alan can't stop thinking of the one who got away, but is he ready for a family?
Alan's first major accounting conference came with the unexpected bonus of handsome omega Rick. But even after they've all gone home, he can't get the other man out of his mind. He never thought he had a child from that night though. When he learns about his son, he can't wait to meet him, and to reconnect with the man who'd caught his eye so long ago.
But can one night turn into forever?
Fireworks Flame is an 18K word , non-shifter, M/M, mpreg, omegaverse romance
I really loved this story. All of these are sweet, but this was one of my favorites. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because it’s too short. Lacey’s books always make me smile and feel happy.
Fireworks Flame is the sixth book in the ‘Holiday Surprise’ series. It stars Rick, an omega with a young son, and Alan, an Alpha. This is told in first person from both Rick and Alan’s pov.
This book fit perfectly for the Fourth of July holiday. The holiday isn’t heavily mentioned in the story, but it’s there. The blurb does a good job of describing the plot so I won’t rehash it. The author did a good job of condensing the series of events in this short novella so that it made sense. The part that didn’t work for me was the very beginning that mentions the jump back in time as a memory. I’m not a fan of time jumps, especially since the one in this book relied half on the sex which resulted in Rick’s pregnancy. I would have preferred a fade-to-black and then a return to present time, but that’s just me.
One other problem I had with the sex scenes was the author overused the word, ‘need’. Many M/M authors use the word ‘need’ to express a character’s strong desire. Unfortunately, the word doesn’t convey desire at all. The word ‘need’ comes across for me like, ‘I need to go to work,’ ‘I need to pick the kids up from school,’ ‘I need to go buy groceries.’ The word ‘need’ doesn’t convey passion, lust, desire, but only an action that something must be ‘done’ or ‘completed’. When authors use the word ‘need’ it comes across as a lazy, simple way to write about deep feelings and lust without having to dig deep and write about the feelings and sensations in a sex scene. It cheats the readers and comes across as lazy writing. In addition, the author used the word ‘need’ repeatedly and in different variations in the sex scenes, which made the scenes even more dull. I have to deduct a full star for overuse of the word which created a lack of feelings and emotions in the sex scenes.
I liked the main characters Rick and Alan, and even the son Dennis who didn’t overtake the story. Rick thankfully, wasn’t a weak omega like in so many omegaverse stories, and Alan wasn’t an Alpha who was a jerk. They were fated mates.
Overall, I enjoyed the way this story progressed, and I liked the characters. I thought the sex scenes were rather plain and not necessary except maybe the one at the end, and the author overused the word ‘need’ instead of digging deeper to create a passionate love and sex scene. I therefore give Fireworks Flame, 4 Stars.
This was a quick sweet read, a nice addition to the Holiday Surprise Series.
QUICK THOUGHTS
** Quick easy read ** Non-shifter mpreg ** Omegaverse ** One night stand ** Second chance ** Great family & friends ** Low angst ** Great chemistry ** Loved the MCs... Rick, Alan & sweet little Dennis ** Satisfying ending ** Short, less than 100 pages ** Wish there was more
I loved this one! It was so sweet that Rick and Alan kept trying to find each other for years after their one night stand. And that Alan was so shocked and happy to find out that he had a son with Rick. I also really loved that Alan’s family excepted Dennis as soon as they laid eyes on him. And, of course, gotta give a shout out to Abuela for adopting her grandson’s friends and their partners, into her family and fostering a community filled with love. This is getting four stars!
Rick and Alan went to the same training conference for accounting but only had one night together as Rick had to leave to get back to work. A month later his best friend Maddy got him a pregnancy test and found out he was pregnant. Tried to find Alan but they had only told each other their first name and no last name. Dennis was getting picked on for only having one parent, Maddy suggested and DNA test. They found his aunt and then Alan called so they met and still wanted the other as much as before the sparks were there. It all was good! Good book!
Rick was so amazing, and I loved what a great single dad he has been to Dennis all these years, and it killed me that Dennis was being bullied at school for not having an alpha dad. I loved how Rick’s bestie helped him through everything and how she’s like an aunt to Dennis.
I died over how Alan found out he had a kid through his sister calling him because she got a notification on the ancestry website. I liked how Alan had no question about wanting to be a dad to Dennis. I died over how he kept going to conferences hoping to see Rick again and how Rick never went again because he was pregnant and then had a kid.
I love that they found each other again and that Rick is going to be adopted into such a big family when he didn’t have many people for so long. This was a super cute story and I loved that the three of them became a little family <3
This is the HOLIDAY SURPRISE Book #6. We live for our children. They always bring us back around. Rick and Alan meet at a conference. A one night stand brings things into focus. Follow these two where dreams are possible and happy endings happen. I really enjoyed this short sweet story. LACEY DAIZE is a WONDERFUL writer. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS HOLIDAY SURPRISE SERIES!!!!!
This one was back to being super cute and fluffy. I liked the story, but I feel like it could’ve used a few more pages for depth and detail. I know the whole purpose of a novella is to be short, sweet, and to the point, but they can still have that richness that makes you devour them as fast as possible. 3.75/5!
I enjoyed Alan and Rick’s story. Unlike other books in the series, there were no villains and no victims, which provided a bit of relief (although, it’s always fun to see the villain get their comeuppance). While not angsty, I did get a bit teary eyed when Alan’s parents met their grandson for the first time.
A sweet and unforgettable one night stand leaves Rick with a gift. Five years later and thanks to a DNA test( need to read the book to find out) Alan and Rick are reunited and the fireworks are still there. This is a quick low angst read with a HEA
I loved all these stories in this collection. This book was interesting and sweet and I loved the ending. The red hair was awsome as well alot of books characters I feel are blond or brunette it's nice to throw in a red head. Lol
Even though is a short and straightforward story, it was very emotional. I couldn't stop crying on and off from the moment Alan gets to know he has a child, until Alan and Rick get together again.
And there was some very good wisdom about your personal happiness as a parent 🤣
Well written story and well developed characters! What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas! But what do you do if it doesn't and you have no way to tell the other person?
Quick, fluffy read. Rick and Alan are absolutely adorkable.
A few random errors in the writing itself (like something got deleted but an extra word left in the sentence) nothing distracting, but I had to read one or two sentences twice to double check.
