Rate this book
Journey through the biblical stories of the early Christian movement, and see what kind of wild adventures await those who truly believe Jesus. Throughout the book of Acts, believing Jesus and what he said is the core value that marked every believer in the first church. Because they believed Jesus, the early Christians were willing to risk everything—their comfort, their homes, even their lives. In this eight-session video Bible study (streaming included), Lisa Harper launches into the book of Acts to discover how Jesus' command to spread the gospel changed the lives of those who believed and shaped the culture that surrounded the growing church. At the end of this journey together, not only will you have studied this wild, adventurous, risk-taking book of the Bible; but you'll see how God supernaturally orchestrated the events in Scripture to bring about the message of salvation that the early believers preached. Today, we are faced with the same risks. Will we truly believe the words of Jesus and allow them to transform every part of our lives? Lisa Harper is a hilarious storyteller and theological scholar―a gifted communicator whose writing and speaking overflows with colorful, pop-culture references that connect the dots between the Bible era and modern life. “Her God-given ability to not merely teach the Word but package it in a way that stirs the heart and calls to action is incomparable” says Priscilla Shirer. For six years Lisa served as the director of Focus on the Family's national women's ministry where she created the popular Renewing the Heart conferences. The next six years found her serving on the local level as the women's ministry director at a large church in Nashville. As the author of eleven books, and a Masters of Theological Studies with honors from Covenant Seminary, she is now a sought-after Bible teacher and speaker. Lisa was on the Women of Faith national arena tour and speaks at many other large events as well as at hundreds of churches all over the world. Lisa describes her greatest accomplishment to date as getting to be Missy’s mama.

I ended up going through this book with my bible study class, and I liked it a lot. The first one of Lisa Harper's that we did was on Acts, which came out after this book. I liked the Acts one better and would rate that one five stars, whereas I think one would be four stars. Both are really good, but I just feel like the questions for these were crazy. There were so many of them, and you had to keep jumping from passage to passage. It felt like school homework it was so long. I think the questions from the Acts book are better. But this book is really good too and I would also recommend this one. As much as I knock the questions, I did learn a lot from them.
