The Relic Hunters #8

The Atlantis Heist

Rate this book
When Guy Bodie and his team of relic hunters are invited to attend a high-society gala to be held in a New York museum to display the greatest finds of Atlantis they see a great opportunity. An opportunity to stop running and finally come out from under the shadow of the CIA.

The night starts off normally enough, even better when Bodie meets an old friend, but then everything changes. Armed men attack the museum, using distraction techniques across the city, and turning their weapons on the people and police who stand in their way inside the building. Bodie’s friend is murdered along with uniformed cops.

What follows is a chase through New York in search of the Atlantean artefacts and in pursuit of desperate, gun-toting mercenaries. From the bridges, the tunnels and to the inner city, the people are set against the authorities in a master disruptive manipulation that crowds the streets, all escape routes are locked down by the police, and the relic hunters are forced to chase through the concrete canyons, determined to bring to justice those responsible for the Atlantis heist.

A disappointing entry in an otherwise stellar catalog of action novels

This was an unrelenting, unending chase through New York City made less believable by the fact that the Relic Hunters were all attired in evening wear! I am a big fan of the author, but not of the "Fast and Furious" style this novel caters to. I am a New Yorker and the foot chase through Brooklyn makes it seem really small town sized instead of how large it really is. The direction to the driver to take them to Brooklyn when they were in Canarsie - part of Brooklyn - is poor fact checking.
Sadly, the early chapters are also in dire need of editing and even in the last chapters, there were editing issues.

Bodie and his team come up trumps again.

Bodie and his team are invited to see the relics they recovered from Atlantis in the museum where they will be housed with the promise of their freedom from the CIA.
However they are involved in a robbery of the artefacts they recovered and after witnessing the deaths of guests and police officers they decide to go after the mercenaries who committed the crime, and thus begins a night of carnage and destruction in the streets of New York.
Before the night has ended they recover the artefacts and bring justice to the streets by catching the mercenaries who reveal the details of who was helping them and ultimately the twin brothers who employed them.
Another cracking read which I would recommend to anyone interested in this genre of fiction.

When you are invested in the main characters you often feel the joys and despairs that they feel as you read the story. As this is the eighth book in the series, I'm truly invested in them and all they been through.

The relic hunters had high hopes of completing one last mission without any problems. Naturally, that didn't happen. I'll say this. If a New York minute is a "snap of the finger short" then they spent at a least a month in one night doing what they felt was the right thing for the situation that occurred.

The author did a wonderful job of pacing things - I'm guessing so the readers wouldn't become too breathless.

I really enjoyed this book in the Relic Hunters series. It was different then all of the others, in this one they were saving relics that they already found but were stolen during an event to raise money to continue the Atlantis excavation. The way the bad guys planned to get the replica out of the city was super morbid. The chase was fast paced and had interesting twists. The inclusion of one of Guy's old friends to have him instantly be killed wasn't really necessary in my opinion. I feel that the gang would have had no qualms getting the relics back without the included desire for revenge/justice.

Treasures from Atlantis

I thoroughly enjoy reading Mr Leadbeaters books, and he never disappoints. But he just can't write quick enough for me, I get withdrawals. Bowdie and his team are So close to being free from the CIA and bad penny Pang. All they have to do is attend an exhibition that's displaying four priceless treasures that have been uncovered from Atlantis. As usual someone or someone's have to throw a spanner in the works. Sending the team chasing hearses through New York City.

Out gunned, out numbered. fast paced and exhausting

Another exhausting, run around a city trying to save artefacts from the mercenaries that have stolen them. Was a bit disappointed in the ending. Left you dangling. Do the C.I.A know what Pang has promised or was it just a plot to get the Relic Hunters to keep working for the company. Guess we'll need to wait till book nine to find out.

Not up to standard

Having read all the previous books in the series this doesn’t meet the standard.
It’s been poorly edited with errors in the english - looks like it was spell checked but not gramma checked. The details are also out -Amy is in the lead car talking to despatch but then in the 2nd car with Heidi and Pang - frustrating details that took the pleasure out of the tale.

A really good story in the Relic Hunter series of books. Guy Bodie and his team are persuaded to attend a reception where four pieces of Atlantean treasure was on show. A helmet, gauntlet sword and shield have the Atlantean alphabet inscribed on them. This will eventually free Bodie and his team from the clutches of the CIA. A team of mercenaries have other plans, and there follows a night of violence and destruction as they're chased through New York. Couldn't put it down.

I don't normally leave reviews, but man, this book deserves one. Normally a huge fan of action books, this one gets a two from me. There was little to no story line, so much internal monologuing it was annoying, and it just...ended. The proof reading was non-existent, I gave up counting how many typos there were. And there were plot holes...glaringly obvious ones (like people being in two cars at once). I honestly don't know why I finished this book.

Spies, drones, satellites but hackers can oust them all

Invited to the showing of the Atlantis relics Broady and his team had found, then all hell broke loose. A fast moving story, gruesome in parts, what people will do to get the spoils. Fantastic read great plots and imagination to pull it off. Highly recommend

This was an excellent departure from previous books. They became rescuers of the treasures they helped fine. Unfortunately they had to work with Pang again. It became a chase and capture event. The Twins hired a high tech hacker to help with the get away. Made New York City a war zone. But with determination they got it done.10 stars plus!!!! Thanks, Carl Clause

I’m typically not a fan of books with one-day action. But this is the rare exception.
