Rodeo bull rider Shane Nichols will do anything for a friend. So when his pal Cash’s girl is about to marry the wrong man, Shane does what needs to be done: he kidnaps the bride!
Poppy Hamilton isn’t expecting to be slung over some gorgeous cowboy’s shoulder and spirited off to a remote mountain cabin in the middle of a blinding Montana snowstorm—even if it’s only until the wedding is over. Poppy still thinks that’s a bit extreme, but she has her own reason for missing the wedding. Besides, she’s the florist, not the bride!
So much for good deeds! What’s Shane supposed to do now—snowbound with a woman who makes all his hormones sit up and take notice, who isn’t anybody’s fiancée, and who is dangerously close to stealing his heart?
Anne McAllister has written nearly 70 romance novels for Tule Publishing and Harlequin Books.
She has won two RITA awards from the Romance Writers of America — for COWBOY PRIDE and THE STARDUST COWBOY — and has had nine other books which were RITA finalists.
Her books have also been finalists for the National Readers’ Choice Award. She was named Midwest Fiction Writers “Writer of the Year” and also received Romantic Times’ Career Achievement Award as “Series Author of the Year.”
But while the awards and sales are wonderful, Anne thinks the best part of writing is telling the story. With every new book she writes, she meets new characters – or gets to know old ones even better – and discovers what makes them and their relationships tick.
It’s the relationships that interest her most and the question about “where do you get your ideas?” has always astonished her as she has more ideas than she knows what to do with!
Sweet short story of a cowboy and the daughter of the judge The initial plot is what made me take off a star (I probably should have taken two, but it is a sweet novella and I ended up loving it in spite of that terrible start). Well, Shane Nichols, Mace's brother (from A Cowboy's Tears) met an old friend at a bar and found out that his friend's girlfriend was marrying someone else in spite of still loving him. He then decides to help them both by kidnapping the bride. I know, I know. I almost dropped the book myself. Anyways, it turns out Shane kidnapped the florist instead and ended up trapped by a snowstorm in a cabin with her. I know, I know. It is Romanceland my dears. Put on your pink glasses and enjoy the ride. To make matters worse, said florist is the daughter of a very tough judge that Shane knows from his wild high school years and have no fond memories of. Shane has confidence issues and Poppy comes from a bad relationship, but they are so good together. Cute short story for a rainy day.
I found this second book of this series to be a sweet, enjoyable read. I won't lie though, I did think at the beginning that Shane wasn't a very intelligent character. His thoughts and actions brought me to that realization. However, once I got to experience parts of the book through his perspective, I realized that Shane was just a simple man with simple needs. He wasn't looking for love or commitment during this time in his life. In addition, Shane was thoughtful and considerate of others as well as being a loyal friend. I believed he was a goodhearted hero. Shane was the type of character I'd love to know in real life.
Poppy had her own frustrations and vulnerabilities. While Poppy loved her father, he could be more than a bit intimidating. Poppy's dad, while not often on the pages was a big part of the story. I won't say why but as you read, you will no doubt, be aware of his interfering and influences.
As you will see from the blurb, Poppy and Shane meet when he mistakenly believes her to be someone else. Poppy could have stopped him by saying he had the wrong girl. However, she has her reasons why she didn't.
This book is a safe read. There is not a lot of angst, if any. And even though the story is predictable sometimes, I enjoyed it. The Cowboy Steals a Lady was lighthearted and fun to read. I liked it better than the first book in this series. Of course, I'll be looking out for Cash's book next.
If you are looking for a short, sweet story to lighten your day, I recommend The Cowboy Steals a Lady. This is my honest and unbiased review and I thank you for taking the time to read it. :)
I received this arc from Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book in Anne McAllister’s Cowboys of Horse Thief Mountain series. In book 2 we get to know Shane Nichols, brother of Mace from book one. Shane is a rodeo bull rider who has been laid up at his brothers’s small ranch after he had to have his thumb reattached. He is feeling stuck and decides to go out to the bar one evening in a neighboring town. He meets up with a friend from the Rodeo who has recently lost his girlfriend Millie. He learns Millie is to be married the next day but his buddy, Cash has to leave for his next rodeo and can’t stay to stop the wedding. Cash points out his ex who is seated with a few other ladies celebrating her upcoming wedding. Shane decides to kidnap Millie so she can’t marry someone else.
A terrible snow storm has begun. Shane followed Millie and her friend to the church and snatched her after they dropped off the flowers. He has nowhere to take her so he decides to drive up the mountain to an old cabin his brother owns. They get stuck going up and have to walk the rest of the way. With her help, Shane gets the fire built and she fixes food for them. They are snowed in with no cell service. He finally introduces himself and she does the same. Only now he realizes that he didn’t kidnap Millie but her friend Poppy. He is quite interested in Poppy, thinks she is beautiful and glad she’s not Millie as he can’t be interested in his friend’s girl. He’s also quite annoyed with himself for not getting the right girl to help his friend. Poppy is glad to miss her friend’s wedding as her dad was trying to fix her up with another of the men he wanted her to marry. Her dad was bringing the prospective guy with him to the wedding.
Shane learns that Poppy is the florist and her father is the judge he has old history with. He feels he is not worthy of Poppy based on her family life, education and job. We learn she is still a virgin and has strong chemistry with Shane. She Doesn’t see herself as being better than Shane. They talk a lot and she sees his traits of caring for others and being a good friend as very desirable.
The weather improves and Shane and Poppy are able to leave the cabin. There is some angst and suspense from the reader over what will happen with the father’s chosen man, will Shane step up and start pursuing a life with Poppy and or he return to his rodeo life? I enjoyed this book a lot and I recommend it for a great Montana love story.
The Cowboy Steals a Lady by Anne McAllister Mr. Impulsive. This is Shane Nichols and Poppy Hamilton's story. Shane Nichols was at a loose end. His older brother, Mace, could have told you that was a dangerous situation. But then, Mace had known his little brother for all of Shane’s thirty-two years. Mace remembered the tipped-over outhouses, the burrs under the saddles, the super glue in Ms. Steadman’s pencil box, the itching powder in old man Houlihan’s underdrawers. And, of course, he remembered the chicken . . . So when the doctor told Shane to cool it, chill out, Mace would have advised following up his advice by doing something about it—like tying Shane to a bed. Cash’s girlfriend rose from the floor with the grace of a ballerina and, still smiling, took his hand. “Poppy Hamilton.” “Pleased to—” Shane stopped mid shake. “What? Poppy?” His brows drew down. “But I thought . . .” He shook his head. “Cash said your name was Milly.” “Um, no.” She looked almost apologetic. “It’s Poppy. I’ve been trying to figure out a polite way to tell you.” The Cowboy Steals a Lady by Anne McAllister is a 3 star book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
The Cowboy Steals A Lady by Anne McAllister, book two in her Cowboys of Horse Thief Mountain, was an enjoyable tale of a stubborn, quiet, impulsive, rodeo bull rider, Shane Nichols, who will do anything for a friend; even if it goes awry. So when his buddy’s girl is going to marry the wrong man, Shane does what any good friend would do; he kidnaps the bride. Poppy Hamilton wasn’t anticipating being slung over the shoulder of a gorgeous cowboy and driven to a remote mountain cabin in the middle of a blinding Montana snowstorm. Poppy thinks it’s a little over the top, but she has her own reason to miss the wedding. Plus, Poppy is the florist, not the bride. When Shane realizes he has the wrong woman, he is fit to be tied. That’s karma for you; even if you think you are doing a good deal. Shane and Poppy are snowbound, attracted to each other, and since she’s not anyone’s fiancée, maybe he can act on that magnetism that keeps drawing him to her. Shane has always been impulsive, acting before thinking, which has caused him some major trouble in the past. When Shane learns that Poppy’s father is a judge, especially the judge he dealt with in high school, he believes that he’s not good enough for her. No matter how far Shane gets from Montana he can’t stop thinking about Poppy and no other woman will do. After returning to Montana at Poppy’s request, Shane is forced to see himself in a different, more positive light, from people he has always respected; making him re-prioritize his life goals.
Ms. McAllister wrote a heartwarming tale filled with sizzling chemistry, magnetism, wonderful dialogue, and endearing characters giving Shane and Poppy a chance at forever love. I definitely recommend The Cowboy Steals A Lady to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Shane Nichols is Mace's brother and he is home healing an injury that is keeping him from riding in the rodeos. He lost his thumb, YES THUMB helping out some folks and the doctors reattached it but now it is all healing and rehab. While he waits he is out with his buddy Cash at the local bar back home and Cash is all upset because his ex Milly is getting married the next day. So instead of talking to Milly Cash leaves and heads out. But not before he tells Cash she is the prettiest girl in the group at the table and describes her. So of course Shane sees this gal and thinks wow she is a looker. Later her decides he wants to talk to her on Cash's behalf. Well, things get out of hand, and low and behold Shane pops her over his shoulder and takes her with him to the family cabin up in the mountain to talk to her. Of course, Mother Nature has something to say and she lets loose with snow for days.. And oh yes Milly (The ex-girlfriend) isn't Milly she is Poppy the florist. So much fun. Shane is really to pass out when he finds out more about Poppy besides the fact that he is so attracted to her. This book is a quick read that I enjoyed inspired of the kidnapping at the first. It is my favorite book between the brothers.
This story stole my heart! Well cowboy Shane Nichols did at any rate. He’s a likeable larrikin whose whole life revolves around the adrenalin rush of riding bulls and following up with buckle bunnies. He’s never had any desire to put down roots and hasn’t even contemplated a life beyond the rodeo. Kidnapping the wrong girl is just the sort of thing Shane tends to do because he’s always been a leap before you look kind of guy. I loved that Shane fought his attraction to Poppy because he thought she was the love of his best friend’s life and later because he didn’t think he was good enough for her. I loved Poppy too. Here is a woman who knows what she wants to do with her life and goes after it despite that path not being the one her strong-willed father has chosen for her. She’s also a woman who has been hurt badly and is protective of her heart. Put Poppy and Shane together and you have a story filled with sweet and charming moments, funny ones and those moments where your heart is in your mouth and you just hope these two can overcome their fears and self doubts and just love each other. This is one of those books I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to read.
The Cowboy Steals a Lady by Anne McAllister is Shane Nichols story. While Shane is Mace’s brother (First book in the series) he is even more of an idiot than Mace ever thought of being. The Cowboys of Horse Thief Mountain second book has Shane kidnapping, sorry I mean commandeering who he thinks is a friend’s former girlfriend. He is going to try to stop her from marrying, just until friend Cash can get there. He takes the wrong woman.
I was all ready to write this book off as not as good as the first until Shane comments on his actions not being like the Ransom of Red Chief. As the story progresses that is exactly what it is with Poppy turning the tables on him. Several times in the beginning I thought, “Shane, what are you thinking?” along with “Are you thinking?” Then when Poppy took over the plot, I just sat back and enjoyed it.
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is just sheer fun entertainment a totally romance laden story line that you have to take with a pinch of salt just sheer good fun and perfect escapism
Shane Nichols is thee kind of friend you want in life willing to do whatever he needs to if you are that said friend So when he his laid off the circuit due to an injury and his best friend is crying over his girl marrying someone else because she is fed up of waiting you can bet he is going to try to help with the situation His plan kidnap the bride to be and hold her until his friend can get back from the rodeo circuit and convince her he is the one for her. Only problem instead of kidnapping Milly the bride to be he kidnaps Polly the florist who just happens to be the daughter of the judge that was the bane of his misspent youth. When they are trapped by snow in a cabin they start to develop feelings for one another but can this disaster have a happy conclusion You will have to read to see
Protagonistas: Shane Nichols y Poppy Hamilton Argumento:
As much as I enjoyed book 1 in the series, The Cowboy Finds a Family, this one was just ok. Shane NIchols, a rodeo bull rider, is recovering from a thumb injury. His brother’s family is great, but he’s getting tired of being idle. To entertain himself he goes to a bar and finds one of his rodeo friends drinking his sorrows away. His friend’s ex is getting married and the man is devastated. Wanting to help his friend, Shane kidnaps the woman he thinks is the bride to be . Big mistake, she’s the florist. After spending time together during a snowstorm, they fall in love and find their HEA. It was a cute but I was left wanting a more in depth story. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This was a sweet quick read. What can a cowboy do when his buddy's girl is about to marry the wrong man? Why is a beautiful cowboy grabbing Poppy from the wedding she is the florist for? Shane is positive this beautiful woman has to be the bride based on the description from his love sick buddy. Once they are snowed in at a remote cabin truths are revealed. 1. She is not the bride 2. Her father played a part in Shane's past and 3. Their chemistry is off the charts. The more time they spend talking the more they want to get to know each other beyond their time snowed in. Great read!
I voluntarily read a advanced reader's copy of this book for a honest opinion.
A wonderful addition to the Cowboys of Horse Thief Mountain series this is the second book in series. The Cowboy Steals a Lady by Anne McAllister. I enjoyed everything about this story. Every time I put it down for a few minutes I couldn't wait to pick it up and get back to reading it. Totally recommend this series and other books by Anne McAllister she knows how to write and give you a great story.
Wow love this one and this series, but Poppy and Shane’s romance brings some fun and spice, imagine being sprinted away to a mountain cabin where Poppy gets snowed in with the Cowboy who has whisked her away and she is the wrong girl not the one his best friend is in love with and the chemistry between them is sizzling, oh my gosh I have said enough just know this is a do not miss for lovers of Western Romance. I was given an advance reader’s copy of this book in exchange for my review and this second book in the Cowboy’s of Horse Thief Mountain is definitely recommended.
This book was a good read. For me the plot was a little unusual but it did not take away from the story at all. It was a sweet, fun, and sizzling read. I loved Shane and Poppy together. They had a lot of chemistry! Honestly when Poppy took over that is when all the fun began! Pick up a copy because you do not want to miss this one. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
The story of Shane and Poppy who meet when he kidnaps her! He thinks he is stopping a wedding to give his friend a chance with the girl he is still in love with, but he ends up with the wrong woman and falling for her himself. When he sets her free will they still be together?
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a voluntary and honest review.
I loved this novel. It has great characters, tension galore, love gone wrong, and his and her perspectives. The story and situations will tug at your heart make you want to just scream sometimes. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Ms.McAllister is a new author to me,I haven't read the previous books in this series. The book cover caught my attention as well as the blurb.A very cute novella you can read while waiting for an appointment .
This was a cute story. It had some funny moments as well as some feels. I liked the characters. I would have liked a little more depth to the relationship. Overall, a good book. I received and ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Shane wants to stop the wedding of his mate as she is marring someone else so he decides to kidnap the bride only trouble he ends up with the wrong person
Playing chicken. A case of mistaken identity leads to a happily ever after in this tale of a broken down rodeo cowboy and a businesswoman. Of course this cowboy is more like a tumbleweed than anything else but with a ton of stubborn pride, while lacking in self-confidence, you get to know him better through each chapter. Our florist, on the other hand, never having a boyfriend before, didn’t know how hard loving someone can be on the heart and soul. His stubbornness and her lack of experience almost becomes more than this relationship can take until they finally get around their shortsightedness - but just barely. I received an advanced reader copy for free from the publisher and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Great story. Mostly great detail and interesting banter betweencharacters. But the parts where the groom to be was findinghimself were boring. Figured it would be a shotgun wedding. Just felt like a hurried final chapter.
