Mythologay #2

Arrogance

Rate this book
Jealousy, enmity, revenge, and above all else arrogance is a recurring theme among Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis, and Adonis. It’s a wonder that the “A” in their names doesn’t stand for arrogance.

Aphrodite’s love for the handsome Adonis clouds her judgment. Bitterness stirs within her when she becomes aware of Apollo and Adonis’ affection for each other. Artemis also feels disgraced by the relationship between the God and male mortal. All of their lives become entangled with endless drama and devious plots each makes on one another.

Arrogance is a retelling of the many classic Greek Mythological tales we’ve come to grow and love.

Which of these Gods will come out on top? Let the drama unfold.

Aphrodite: The Vengeful One

Will show her wrath to anyone who wrongs her

Apollo: The Vigorous One

Will use his power to get whatever he desires

Artemis: The Apprehensive One

Will cast shame on those who don’t follow her beliefs

Adonis: The Irresistible One

Will seduce anyone to get his way

This is my honest review in exchange for the ARC. I have enjoyed this series from the start! How the author retells the Greek mythology with a twist is nothing like I have read before. I have read several retellings over the years and this is among my favorites so far. So many emotions through this book. Love, Hate and Betrayal all in one hot retelling. Rates high on the spice scale and please check TW before reading. This series has its hooks on me so far.

A compelling tale

Arrogance is a trait of many and this book weaves together that trait in two goddesses, one god, and a mortal. The Greeks are famous for their tragic myths. This isn’t precisely a retelling, but it does weave several myths that surround each of the characters together into a narrative that is plausible. I have to say I’m impressed with the author’s ingenuity when it comes to adding the gay elements to these myths.

What I’m not impressed by is the writing… Again. If he used an editor, they failed him greatly. There are more sentences that are worded oddly or worded entirely wrong than any book should have. There are sentences where the wrong word entirely completely derails whatever is being talked about or described. As with the previous book, there is a great deal of telling vs showing. The dialogue is stilted and has an unnatural flow. Some of that is due to the odd sentences and poor word choice. Some is simply showcasing that no one bothered to help the author improve it. Much of the dialogue feels forced rather than like natural conversation.

The story is still interesting and I would suggest reading it if you like Greek myths.

I received a copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily writing a review.

In this gay retelling of some of the old Greek myths, arrogance is the theme. Three gods and a mortal are all arrogance personified and their actions impact each other and those around them.

It begins with a jealous Aphrodite transforming Myrrh into a tree, then taking Myrrh's unborn child to the Underworld to leave him in the care of Queen Persephone, and before she departs, she names the baby Adonis.

Meanwhile heavily pregnant Leto escapes Hera's curse with some help from Zeus and arriving on the sky-floating island of Delos, where she gives birth to the goddess Artemis, who in turn helps Leto birth Apollo. The twin gods grow to adulthood quickly, proud of themselves and their skills. Artemis becomes cold, prickly, and swears to remain virginal. Apollo becomes insufferable and bests his sister after a series of gay affairs with both men and gods.

Adonis grows to adulthood in the Underworld, but is seduced by Persephone. Quickly bored in the eternal afterlife, he yearns for freedom with mortals. When he meets Aphrodite as an adult, he notices her attraction to him, and manipulates the goddesses to free himself. Aphrodite introduces him to the other Olympians during a competition, and Adonis beats both Apollo and Artemis in an archery contest, and Apollo and Adonis fall in love and have a secret, passionate love affair... only Aphrodite figures out what's going on. Then Artemis catches them, and everything goes haywire.

I liked the concept of a gay-themed mythology here, and this is pretty frank about sexuality. That said, the prose here is a bit plodding and takes a long time to get things going. The body count is high, both in who gets fucked, fucked over, and killed. Then it ends fairly abruptly.

Two stars.

REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Arrogance by B J Irons is the second book in the bestselling Mythologay Series. This time he takes an assortment of classic Greek Mythological tales and weave a single story of passion, jealousy, treachery and revenge. Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis and Adonis will stop at nothing to get what they want. Aphrodite seeks the love of the handsome Adonis, but becomes set on revenge when Adonis find love in the arms of Apollo. Artemis does not approve of relations between God and mortal and vows to separate the two. The story is full of dramatic entanglements and devious plots as each of them battle for satisfaction. ⠀

Arrogance is a blend of superb storytelling and impeccable research. These tales of God and Goddesses have been painstakingly crafted into one brilliant and riveting story. The author manages to capture the essence of each distinctly unique character and illuminates their tragic flaws alongside of the attributes for which they are famous. The prose are engaging and will captivate the reader whether they are novice or scholar. This is definitely my favorite of the series thus far, and I wait with anticipation to see what B J Irons has in store for the Orpheus retelling. ⠀

It's fantastic in this series how the author can stay true to the essence of who these characters are in mythology and yet bend them just enough to make a new and absorbing story. The focus here is on various characters beliefs about Gods and mortals and whether or not such relationships should be permitted or not. Their feelings about this issue can't be separated from their jealousy and frustration at not getting to be with the person they want in some cases. As usual, the Gods do not handle rejection well.

This is a retelling of some of the greats Greek Mythology in one story. It is written wonderfully and you can see a lot of research went into the retelling. Makes the story unique and gives a freshness to the normal myths. If you are looking for something not the norm, then this is for you. Very entertaining and definitely recommended.

I received this book as an Arc and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

Their names all begin with A although it should mean arrogance for them all. There are so many different links between the four of them which may lead to trouble. Can they all become better people? Will they learn from their mistakes? Will they all become better partners for each other? See just what is going to happen

A different and wonderfully written take on Greek Mythology. each character stands out on their own but doesn't overshadow other characters.
Vastly entertaining and filled with all you come to expect from mythology and so much more.

A great tale told in a very different way to the way you may have read before. It is normally female and male but this is male and male. It is still just as good so sit back and enjoy
