A girl with a broken heart. A man dealing with loss. When an accident brings these childhood sweethearts together, will they find love?
When a fire rips through her world, Holly finds her rescuer to be none other than Mitch, the guy she’s not seen for fifteen years. He makes her a business proposition, but can she learn to trust?
Heartbroken Mitch travels across the country to Somerset to oversee the running of his Uncle’s farm, but is he really running away from himself?
Neither can deny their attraction for each other. But is such an intense relationship ideal between two broken people? Holly is fiercely independent and troubled by an historic feud between their families, believing any union between them is doomed. Mitch’s overwhelming desire to save Holly is pushing her away. Will these lost souls ever be reunited? Or will history repeat itself and end in tragedy?
Suzanne has been reading romance her whole life and is addicted to happy endings. She has also published a cozy mystery series under a different pen name. She lives in Somerset England with her family and when she is not writing she is out on her bike cycling around the English countryside.
It’s sweet, heartbreaking, heartwarming, and a really fun read. Set in the quaint English countryside of Eversley Village, this story of love, loss, family, friends, inspiration and new beginnings has all of the elements I needed to help me fall in love with these characters, this setting and this book.
It starts off powerfully with hints at a neighborly family feud, then Holly, who has lost her family, also loses her husband and her home. She’s on her own trying to rebuild her family farm, with hopes of turning it into an arts hub for the village. Her best friend, Val, is fabulous support and a fun side character. Holly also has her staff, her dear family friends, community support and her neighbor, Mitch. There are ups and downs as Holly tries to move forward navigating business hurdles, potential litigation, and a bruised heart. She wants to let others in, but is too used to relying on herself. Is there a way for Holly and Mitch to move past their hurts and find their way to each other, or are relationships between the feuding Booths and Lovelands always doomed?
I loved the main characters! They’re tenacious but tender - taking care of people and places they care about, focused on business, but also vulnerable and cautious. There is enough uncertainty in the story to pull readers along wondering how things might pan out. But it’s got enough romcom predictability to let it be a mostly lighthearted comfort read. Some parts are infuriating. (Tom! Ugh!) But more parts are uplifting as it’s fun to watch Holly move forward with a project that will benefit her community. And it’s fun to watch Holly and Mitch give in to a pull towards each other that they’ve felt their whole lives. (The romance part is slow burn, sweet, and closed door. Seemed to be a good fit for the tone of the book.) Of course there has to be some romcom miscommunication. But I loved how it all plays out.
I would love to hear this in audiobook form. I tried to make the accents in my head but I’m sure I didn’t do them justice. The editing isn’t perfect, but I think most of my hang ups were more about country stylistic differences. I just let myself get lost in the story and I really enjoyed it.
This book might not gain the popularity of some of the big, popular releases and that’s too bad. It’s so much better than many others that I’ve read lately. It might be 4.5⭐️, but I’m rounding up to 5⭐️ because it really was more enjoyable than most of my recent 4⭐️ reads. It made me smile, get frustrated, laugh, and cry. Truly a lovely story.
*Thankful to have received an ARC from the author. It’s available now.
I absolutely loved this book, and I couldn't put it down. A new series set in the West Country on 2 neighbouring pieces of land, one a farm and one a nursery, with alot of history between the 2 families who own them.
This book centers around Holly Loveland, owner of the nursery and Mitch Booth who runs the farm his family owns. When Mitch saves Holly from a fire, he hopes there may be something between them, but neither are good at expressing their feelings, both having suffered tragedies in their lives.
There's also a cute dog in the story too.
It's a great book by a writer I've never read books from before. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I felt like the female main character made a lot of bad decisions at the end of the book and treated Mitch poorly for no reason. this book dragged on and on they could not figure out their feelings. Like 360 pages of them not being together. But there was a lot of divorce and Dad that they both had to work through. It was like everyone was dying or in the hospital.
There was only a couple profanity type words, and it was a closed door scene so only kissing descriptions.
Allow a full, long day for this NC17 contemporary, small-town romance describing the annus horribilus of one Holly Loveland whose family had been in a feud with the Booths who lived up the hill in Eversley Village near Wells City in Somerset, England. I had an ARC via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary review.
chasing Dreams in Eversley Village: A New Beginnings Romance (Eversley Village Romance Book 1)
What a delightful read, this romance book had everything one could wish for. Intrigue, heartbreak, villains and making up. A family who weren’t related to. I can thoroughly recommend reading this book. Couldn’t wait to see what was on the next page.
This is a great story. Full of ups and downs in life but just maybe things will get smoothed out. The characters are fun, witty, charming and underhanded. This book is a fun uplifting story and as one relationship ends for good a new romance beings. Enjoy.
mostly enjoyable with a few issues - 2.5* rounded up.
It didn't quite do it for me but I imagine plenty of people would not be irritated by the minor things that annoyed me. I didn't feel the need to read the next book.
I loved this story a good clean romance with relationship struggles without sexual demonstrations. I look forward to reading more of her stories. Great characters most of them anyway.
We follow Holly Loveland, owner of a nursery and Mitch Booth who runs the neighboring farm that his family owns. Mitch saves Holly from a fire and feelings develop between the two of them in spite of an age-old family feud. This was a good story with mystery, romance, and found family.
Nursing a back injury I was so happy to have found Suzanne Fox! Loved the story outline about Holly and Mitch, looking forward to reading Second Chances now!
An enjoyable romance with not too much angst and a good dose of humour, with Holly & Mitch facing family secrets and other difficulties on their path to happiness
