Mountain Man's Claim

Rate this book
Brooding. Powerful. Rough around the edges.
Caleb Walker's as wild as the mountains he’s from.
And now I’m renting his spare room.

I moved to this small town to build a new life.
Now I can’t escape if I wanted to… he’s got the only spare bed in town.
And the mountain’s most eligible bachelor wants nothing to do with me.

I’ve invaded his space and marked his territory.
Now’s he’s on a mission to kick me out...
Before I break down his walls, and find out his secrets.

Until the night of the harvest dance.
When he says those 7 words…
“Tell me you want me inside you.”

Now his brooding stares are filled with desire.
And his touch makes me cry out for more.

We’re both suffering from loss.
We're both keeping our hearts closed.
But something tells me there’s a man behind the beast.

And he’s going to claim everything I am.

3 stars-Just Okay

I DNF’d at about 50%. This book is good, but just not good enough. It’s a new author for me, and generally, I like the alpha, grumpy mountain man trope, but while the author has a very eloquent, and visually descriptive writing style, she tends to be a bit overly wordy. There’s a lot of fluff and padding that is not necessary for the overall story, but I did find many passages describing the emotional experiences, particularly of grief, very well-written and enlightened. However, the descriptions of the couple’s intimacy/sensuality was rather contrived, and described in an attempt to be tastefully & perhaps, artistically written. It took away from from the steam factor, and led to some eye-rolling on my part, especially in light of each character’s backgrounds. It just didn’t seem to fit. So, I saw no reason to read to end of the book for the known HEA.

Life is too short so you need to learn to enjoy every moment with joy.

Lizzie Lewis has suffered great loss over the last couple of years. The most recent was her dear friend Nick who died on the track four months ago. She was the head mechanic which added to her grief even if it wasn't her fault. Now she needs a change of scenery to start over to make new memories that aren't so painful and fresh. So she leaves New York and heads to a small town that her grandparents once called home called East River Forge. What she didn't expect was the hotel to be shutdown due to flooding. Only to be told about an available room to rent only a short distance down the trail that sends her heading to a place in the woods. Unfortunately after an hour of walking/stumbling she still can't find the place and dragging her luggage is becoming difficult as she makes her way over roots and leaves. After stumbling once again she is startled by a giant of a man who looks like big foot who complains about her disturbing the wildlife.
Caleb Walker is a quite solitary guy who is the towns, jack of all traits/handyman. His only family is his mother who he is very protective over especially after her health issues. He is shocked when he discovers a beautiful woman in the woods who is apparently looking to rent his room. His first impression was a pampered out of town socialite. He can't have that kind of distraction so he is rude and dismissive to her and tells her it's not available but she doesn'ttake no for an answer. To say their first interaction was intense and unpleasant is an understatement. Soon he discovers there's more to her than he first thought. Can they work out the wounds and heartbreak of their past to see what's right in front of them or will their egos get in the way?

Wow what an enjoyable book this was and the storyline was very believable that had me hooked. Lizzie Lewis is a racing car mechanic and after loosing her famous father and now her best friend Nick recently she realises a change is needed and decides to head for East River Forge where her grandparents grew up and said it was peaceful. Now in town she finds out the hotel was flooded and the only room to rent is with Caleb Walker but finding his house is not without danger so when she falls he is there to help her up but he’s is not happy she is here for the room but he needs the money. Caleb Walker is the town’s handyman and it’s most eligible bachelor but hoe biggest issue is his mother at the moment who is suffering from Alzheimer’s that needs to go to a nursing home because he cannot look after her after his brother Matty died and so that’s why he has a room for rent for the extra money but this female that’s moved in drives him crazy with things he shouldn’t want but desires. The attraction is so strong between them that they decide to have a no strings attached arrangement but it doesn’t take long for there arrangement to turn serious but can these two have a future together or will there past hold them back.

I always get drawn into Annabelle Love’s stories. Mountain Man’s Claim is no exception. The details are exceptional. The character’s come to life on the pages.

Caleb Walker loves his hometown. He decides to rent out a room so he can support his mother. He is unprepared for the person who shows up to rent the space. Caleb is used to a quiet life in a small mountain town. He enjoys his profession of being a handyman.

Lizzie Lucas is looking for a town as far away from New York as she could get. The deaths of her father and one of her drivers has sent her downhill. She shows up in Forge with the intent to start over. Her grandparents had come from this town. She felt a connection. She takes to the town with ease, but her luck is not on her side when she is directed to Caleb Walker to rent a room.

Annabelle Love has written an emotional and heartfelt romance novel with substance and characters with depth. Caleb is reserved and emotionally closed off from others, believing that everyone in his life leaves him. Lizzie has dealt with her share of loss and is looking for a place to call home without reminders of her losses.
The relationship between them starts out as a mutual agreement of ‘no commitment’ but gradually becomes a genuine and emotional relationship.
The message that Annabelle wants to share with her readers is reflected in this brief excerpt:
The point is to live those moments with joy. Whether it’s destined to last or not.
The story climax is very dramatic, and her description of their subsequent love scene was very sensual and emotional. This was an amazing book and I recommend it highly.

This book was just amazing. Lizzie moves to a new mountain area from New York City after some events in her life for a fresh start. Once she arrives she finds it hard to find a place to stay. A woman points her in the direction of the Walker residence since they have a room to rent. She walks for a long while and stumbles and fall. When help arrives its in the big foot variety of a man names Caleb Walker. Caleb prefers to be on his own. Hes likes his piece. But when Lizzie invades his home he might just find her invading his heart too. Shes strong, independant and beautiful. Everything he didnt think she would be from first glance. Can he give his heart away with everything going on in his life. Or will she leave.
Amazing book you wont be dissappointed.

Lizzie comes to East River Forge for a fresh start. She is told about a room for rent and that is not that far away. However, she ends up lost anyways. Caleb is the one renting the room and he also rescues Lizzie. He doesn't want her staying but agrees for one night. When they go to the mechanics shop the next day Lizzie asks about a job. She shocks them all with her knowledge on cars and is hired. Slowly she starts making friends within the town and it starts feeling more like home. Its not long when Caleb realizes how much he wants her. Will he admit to how he feels? Will she be staying even after people learn who she is?

This is an amazing story that will draw you in from the first chapter. This is a well written and very entertaining story. It's a book that any book lover would enjoy.

Love when you least expect it!

If you are looking for a book where love can persevere regardless of the odds then this might just be the book for you. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Lizzie and Caleb. You can see the chemistry between them but also know that there is a story that here to unfold. They both have a past and until you discover all the details of that every is unable to come together. Like all good books there are some outside ripples, like will Lizzie decide to go back to New York? Will her friends convince her that she has made a mistake and this small town is not for her? Will Caleb face his fears and actually tell Mozzie how he really feels instead of this just being a friends with benefits arrangement? You should definitely read Mountains Man's Claim to see how Lizzie and Caleb's story ends.

Could have been better

Decent read and story. A lot of loss and finding a new normal without the ones you love. I really liked Caleb but Lizzie just didn't do it for me. I mean she never completely communicated with Caleb as to her loss, who David was or what he was to her. Leaving Caleb with insecurities and speculations, she also was overheard saying "he's just my landlord, unimportant" and he's just supposed to know how she really feels?!? This story had a lot of difficult topics that weren't delved into to my liking. Situations come up like was that Matty in the woods helping Caleb, does Jace find Alice and they have a relationship, what's their story? Like I said decent read just not the depth hinted upon. ✌

Lizzie ran from her old life to heal her heart and found mountain man Caleb

Caleb needs healing too. Life has been hard for these two wounded souls. Lizzie lost her father to cancer and a friend to a racing crash. Caleb lost a big brother he idolized. Grouchy Caleb finds the city slicker lost and wandering in circles and throws her over his shoulder. These two are like oil and vinegar but slowly love blossoms but they've agreed to 'it's only ex - not relationship'. He's afraid she'll leave because everybody leaves him. Lizzie wants to build a new life in the town her grandparents came from to escape the sadness her old racing life kept triggering. Very will they won't they till each risks their heart.

2.5 ⭐

Sooooo repetitive and boring.
Could've been a great book: interesting characters, decent story and decent writing.

BUT everything is repeated to death. Up to 6 pages at a time (interrupted by something really happening, and then repeat) of the same inner monologue over and over again. The characters lose interest - they seem dumb for keeping repeating the same stupidity - the story gets boring and I really start questioning the quality of the writing.

The author had material for a 190 page novella and just decided to put tons of filler so it would be a bigger book. So we have 200 pages of nothing.

I almost DNFed 2 times. Took me two days to finish a book I usual finish in 3 hours.

Lizzie, a mechanic blows into town right after the hotel is flooded. She is walking around the woods trying to find a house someone told her had a room to rent. Caleb finds Lizzie walking in circles. He is hesitant to rent his extra room to her. He thinks she is a beauty but wonders if she is high maintenance plus he is very attracted to her. Lizzie quickly makes friends and gets a job her first day in town. Lizzie also buys a house that is a wreck inside and out. She hires Caleb to fix it up. Will Lizzie and Caleb hook up? Will Lizzie stay in East River Forge or go back to New York? Will Caleb and Lizzie have their HEA? Great story!

Needing a change of scenery after tragedy struck her life, Lizzie went to a small town where her grandparents grew up, East River Forge. When her accommodations flooded out, Lizzie was directed an available room, but finding the cabin was a challenge.

Caleb was the town's handyman and was renting out the room to help cover the cost to take care of his mother. The moment he saw Lizzie the starts that flew were not the good ones, but the fierce encounter led to an arrangement that only continue to grow.

Lizzy is looking for a fresh start. Caleb is looking for peace, quiet and solitude. One of those isn't happening!

Lizzy gets lost in Caleb's neck of the woods, and their first meeting does not go well!

Both have a troubled past. Can they get past those first negative impressions to see the good underneath? Thanks to Mother Nature throwing a storm their way, they're going to have plenty of time to find out!

Great book! I just love Annabelle Love's writing! Highly recommend!.

Good story but the book felt too long.

I really enjoyed the situation and setting of this book, both likeable characters. Not as hot as I usually like them, but I liked the story. But i thought: 1, There were way too many misunderstanding to be anywhere near reality, it started getting a bit annoying. Everything said by both characters always were perceived the wrong way.. Everything! Until the end.. Which brings me to: 2, I felt the book was way too long for the story. It would have been filled with every important scene and finish in half the time.

Grumpy Mountain Man & a beautiful female mechanic...
Loved thei story, the growly hero & the sassy heroine, their dialogue & their undeniable sexual chemistry. She needed a place to stay with the hotel flooded, he needed to rent the spare room to save money to relocate his mother to a nursing home. Could she bring some light into his life & could he mend her grieving heart. Well written page turner that I can highly recommend. I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.

City girl meets mountain man. Grief from the past and dealing with the scars they have caused will determine your future. Do Caleb and Lizzie have what it takes to move past this? I enjoyed reading this book to watch how different people deal with guilt differently. While this is definitely a romance, the real life topics in this book made it so relatable and enjoyable.

Country roncom

Caleb is a country man who lost his older brother during a rain storm, while he was saving a city couple. Lizzie left New York after nursing her father through cancer until he died. She also lost a good amount friend after an accident on the racE course. They meet for casual sex until it becomes more than that

DNF'd at 46%. The writing itself was fine, but the plot was drawn out and repetitive. There was potential with the character building for it to be a very emotional, beautiful story with plenty of the warm fuzzies for everyone, but it stayed flat and I didn't see a need to continue reading for the inevitable happy ending.

Wonderful escape

When life hands you lemons and tragedy, what do you do? Move a
way from home and make lemonade of course. With new projects, life moves on and before you can blink, you've bought a house, redone it,and fell in love. Sounds like life.

Great reading

From - the start this story has humour and chemistry between Lizzie and Caleb. Their pasts are emotional but between them everything happens quickly even if they do try to keep it casual. Definitely worth reading.
