#1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn loves to dispel the myth that smart women don't read (or write) romance, and and if you watch reruns of the game show The Weakest Link you might just catch her winning the $79,000 jackpot. She displayed a decided lack of knowledge about baseball, country music, and plush toys, but she is proud to say that she aced all things British and literary, answered all of her history and geography questions correctly, and knew that there was a Da Vinci long before there was a code.

A graduate of Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges, Ms. Quinn is one of only sixteen members of Romance Writers of America’s Hall of Fame. Her books have been translated into 32 languages, and she lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest.

The Bridgertons, her popular series of historical romance, is currently in production by Shondaland as a Netflix original series starring Julie Andrews, Phoebe Dynevor, and Rége-Jean Page.

I've been a Bridgerton fan for years, I love this family with all my heart, but that doesn't stop me from being able to acknowledge that this book is a whole lot of nothing packaged with a pretty bow on top. There's literally no substance to it, it's all stuff we already know repackaged to look cute.

This book was marketed as containing "brand-new" Lady Whistledown "inserts" about our favorite Bridgerton characters — already, upon its announcement, I thought it sounded kinda boring, but I figured maybe there'd be some truly interesting tidbits we hadn't heard before warranting a whole new "guide"...nope.

You literally only get ONE new LW insert per character and the rest is literally paragraphs taken word for word from the Bridgerton books, no additions, no new info, nothing. If you wanna learn about the characters, might as well just pick up the books and read it from the source.

Overall, it's really pointless. Also, I hate when publishers are just outright milking popular shit for money and not even trying to be creative about hiding their motives.

This was a fun immersion into all things Bridgerton and I loved every bit of it!

While this does not have any new content, other than a bit from Lady Whistledown, it has so many moments of goodness that make up each book and thereby, the whole series. Each chapter covers a different character and within are quotes that paint a perfect picture of that character. From the deepest heartfelt moments, to those that had me laughing again as it reminded me of all the humor this series contains.

This is definitely for those who have already read and loved the books. Any fan will enjoy this but the formatting for the printed book is exquisite and definitely something a hard core fan would love to have on their shelf. I’m totally in book envy at just the thought!

But what really has me cheering for this book is the way it thrust me back into the joy that is the Bridgertons and thereby making me fall in love with them all over again.

This is sort of a recap of the Bridgerton series, told through quotes and passages from all 8 books with each chapter being dedicated to one of the MCs.

So of you already read the series, this is nothing new, nor necessary.

This was so sweet! I finished the whole Bridgerton series last year and honestly their are some books in that series that still live in my heart (I’m thinking about you When He Was Wicked). This book was a really nice way to kind of relive some of the highlights of each book based on the different characters.
I think my favorite chapter was actually Violet’s. As the mother of all 8 Bridgertons she’s in every book but you don’t get a lot of background on her. With her chapter you realize what an incredible character and mother she truly was. She really does add life and color to each of her children’s lives.

It's a book of quotes from the Bridgerton books. Cute enough, and it does remind you of the deliciousness of the historical fiction and Bridgerton world, and whilst it's nice to reminisce about this world, I was left wanting more. I'm just glad I borrowed it from the library as it offered little extra other than one new muse of Lady Whistledown per character. It's a bit disappointing, but fun to see some lovely quotes all in one place.

The best of the entire series. I loved traveling back through the memories of each character. I found it a bit odd that spouses were only present for the first couple of siblings. I was not a big fan of most of the new Whistledown letters, which didn't seem to fit as well with the feel of previous letters and wit.

I loved the Violet and Lady Danbury sections.

This is absolutely worth a read, but read it LAST. Spoilers abound as you travel back through the series, sibling by sibling.

Reviewed for Wit and Sin

The Wit and Wisdom of Bridgerton is a fun treat for fans of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series. It’s a compendium of quotes from the series spotlighting each of the eight Bridgerton siblings plus Kate, Penelope, Simon, Violet, and Lady Danbury. I loved the collection of quotes from the books and was interested to see what Quinn would pick out to highlight each character. Each character is introduced with a new column by Lady Whistledown, but aside from that the text is all pulled from the Bridgerton series (plus one Rokesby book).

If you’re looking for some insight into Bridgerton the show on Netflix, this is not that. Aside from Quinn’s introduction, The Wit and Wisdom of Bridgerton is entirely focused on the books themselves. If you haven’t read the series I don’t think this collection will have the impact for you that it did for me (especially as you get farther down the Bridgerton sibling line to characters who are not heavily featured in season one of the television show). I delighted in revisiting my favorite characters in this format and I highly recommend this for anyone who loves the books and wants to have a collection of quotes to simply pick out and enjoy whenever the mood strikes. The Wit and Wisdom of Bridgerton serves as a lovely reminder of all the things I love about the Bridgertons, their relationships (romantic and familial), and Quinn’s sparkling prose.

FTC Disclosure: I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This was a such great collection of quotes and descriptions! I really loved how we were given an in-depth look at everyone. The way the quotes flowed for each character made it feel very put together, and I had fun revisiting moments I’ve seen and getting glimpses of ones I haven’t yet! Lady Whistledown sure knows how to give insight into others.

This was such a cute collection for fans of the Bridgerton series, specifically for those who have read the books. This is a beautifully bound addition, I love the cover and how pretty the formatting is on the inside. The book is a fun compilation of snippets, quotes, wit, and wisdom from Lady Whistledown and about the beloved Bridgerton characters. This volume shares favorite quotes from the Bridgerton books that best represent and illuminate each character, picked out by author Julia Quinn. Every character featured also gets a brand new Lady Whistledown entry which was so fun and special to read!

“A Bridgerton. To be such is to know that you are part of a family tightly webbed with staunch loyalty and unquestioning love. And laughter. Always laughter.”

The book is broken up by characters and those featured are Anthony, Kate, Benedict, Colin, Penelope, Daphne, Simon, Eloisa, Francesca, Gregory, Hyacinth, Violet, and Lady Danbury. This felt like you were reading a collection of all the moments you would have annotated about the characters when reading the series, or in this case what JQ herself annotated about each character. It shares sweet moments, swoony moments, the moments that pull at your heartstrings, the parts that made you cry, the moments that had you laughing, definitely a couple Mallet of Death moments, and just all the perfect moments that made you fall in love with these characters. While all the quotes and passages are moments from the Bridgerton series, in the case of Colin’s section we do get a passage about him from First Comes Scandal (The Rokesbys series).

Thank you so much to the publisher, Avon Books, for my gifted copy of this beautiful book. I adored reading it and remembering all my favorite Bridgerton moments. I cannot wait to go place it on my bookshelves now with the rest of my JQ books.

This one is for the Bridgerton completists (like us) or for total Bridgerton newbies. Pulling together the best quotes about each Bridgerton sibling (plus Violet, Penelope, Simon, Kate, and Lady Danbury) The Wit and Wisdom of Bridgerton gives us a little hint about what we love about each character.

The "new stuff" is a short Whistledown column about each character. To be completely honest, we were both most interested in these columns (because they're new! More Whistledown! More !) but also most disappointed in them. They're mostly just rehashes of information we already knew with a few Easter eggs about other Quinn series (Smyth-Smith Quartet, London Series, Bridgerton prequels). The best of them was Gregory's column because it works with what we know about Whistledown's identity and what we know is about to happen in our favorite Bridgerton book.

This objective review is based on a complimentary copy of the book.

I am a big fan of the Bridgerton series on Netflix and when I saw this book on my mother's bookshelf I knew I just had to read this "Official Guide".

Unfortunately, this book is a collection of the best quotations from the original novels. Each one of the chapters relates to a specific character and their clever comments. After finishing reading the "Official Guide" I definitely am interested in reading the entire Bridgerton book series.

Here are a few of my favorite ones from some of the chapters:

Anthony -

"It was funny, he reflected later, how one's life could alter in an instant, how one minute everything could be a certain way, and the next it's simply...not."

"Love isn't about being afraid that it will all be snatched away. Love's about finding the one person who makes your heart complete."

Kate -

"You have to live each hour as if it's your last," she said, "and each day as if you were immortal. "

Colin -

"It was quite strange, actually, how he loved returning home just as much as he did the departure."

Penelope -

"I've always liked her. More brains than the rest of her family put together."
- Lady Danbury

Eloise -

"She didn't need someone perfect. She just needed someone perfect for her."

Gregory -

"It was a damned good thing men couldn't have children. Gregory took no shame in admiring that the human race would have died out generations earlier."

Hyacinth -

"I do love it when I'm right. It makes life do much more convenient, wouldn't you agree."

Violet -

"Violet always seemed to know just what her children needed, which was remarkable, really, since there were eight of them -- eight very different souls, each with unique hopes and dreams."

"My children never disappoint me," Violet said softly. "They merely...astonish me."

Lady Danbury -

"Lesson Number One in dealings with Lady Danbury: Never show weakness.
Lesson Number Two being, of course: When in doubt, refer to Lesson Number One."

" The world would be a much happier place if people would just listen to me before they up and got married. I could have the entire Marriage Mart matched up in a week."

"My aim in life," Lady Danbury announced, "is to be a menace to as great a number of people as possible."

Lady Danbury is my favorite of all the characters.

What I Liked
It was a lovely way to reminisce about the characters' greatest hits. And in some instances, there were some extra little tidbits about characters told in the style of Lady Whistledown which was kinda cute.

However...

What I Didn't Like
It's very obvious this book was nothing more than a plot to capitalize on the tv series' massive success and I really can't justify the creation of this book at all. At first, I thought we'd at least get some extra content. Kind of like small insights on the characters post the series but I didn't get that at all.

And even then, I don't know why they only did it for some of the characters. There are 8 children with their spouses plus Violet. It's not like they were creating all new content for each, so I don't understand why they couldn't do it for all of them. Like if you're not gonna give new content, at least do it for all of them.

✧↠✧ Overall Enjoyment / Impact ✧↞✧ 【★☆☆☆☆】
I'm sorry, this wasn't worth it. Just rather go reread the books.

This was a feel good slight easy read exercise. Some poster here in review notes that it is only for the Bridgerton book series crowd. Well, I have never read a Bridgerton, never out of hand do I pick Romance as a preferred genre category or do I particularly like the exact period of these early 1800's class in England. None of those.

But I liked the readings and the sketches. Also felt I got to know the 8 siblings and their perspective spouses quite well just within these quips. Not to speak of the Duchess of Danbury or Violet, the siblings' Mother. More so than if I had read another 10 character 480 pager novel.

I would NOT be an audience for the longer novel fare of each courtship or intrigue going on for all of these people. Nor of their cutthroat Pall Mall games either. But I am glad I picked this up and give it 3.5 stars for a more accurate rating. The art and coloring of the hardcover and numerous edged and decorated pages was fully 4.5 stars. A very light and breezy look at this English ton world of very large families.

The Wit and Wisdom of Bridgerton is a collection of the most dramatic, romantic, and memorable quotes from the most charming characters in the Bridgerton series. Each chapter in the book highlights a different character—including Daphne, Simon, Penelope, and Colin.

This beautiful guide, which is gorgeous and giftable, is the A to Z of everything we love about Bridgeton. One of my favorite quotes. "I simply refuse to deal with idiots. It has cut my social obligations in half." The book also gives some new insights from Lady Whistledown.

This isn't really a story. It's a collection of quotes and scenes from.the book and show.
It doesn't try to be anything else and I found it a bit pandering to the success of the show and book sales but so what🤷🏾‍♀️
I borrowed it from Hoopla so it didn't cost me anything and as the description clearly states what to expect I waant expecting a story and rather enjoyed this walk down memory lane.
I only wish I'd read it closer to the premiere of season 3.
Or event the premiere of the Queen Charlotte spin off.
I'm ready for Penelope's season! I hated the book and am hoping the show deviates in the best ways!

Thank you to NetGalley, Avon and the author for the opportunity to read an ARC of this title. An honest review was requested but not required.

I know, I know, I know, the synopsis SAID it was a collection of quotes. I knew it was, when I requested it, and I knew it was, when I started it. But as sweet as it was to relieve some of my favorite moments about characters I remember fondly, it was a little boring to read through, novel-style. Hence why it took me a whole week to finish it even though it's not exactly a long book. I think I was really hoping for a few NEW gems, little anecdotes or witty words, but nope.

If you're a Bridgerton (books or TV series, although TV series watchers will find PLENTY of spoilers here) superfan, this is definitely worth picking up and wallowing in the Bridgerton world just a little longer. But do yourself a favor, and read a little at a time instead of trying to gulp it all down at once.

“Spectacular cover design!” is what came up in my mind when I first saw this book. Its a collections of dramatic, memorable, funny, and romantic quotes from the Bridgerton’s book series. The chapters represents Anthony, Kate, Benedict, Colin, Penelope, Daphne, Simon, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, Hyacinth, Violet and Lady Danbury. I can hear Lady Whistledown’s voices in my head while reading her introductions with the gossipy tones, smirks, wits and all.

💭 This book is for those who has the biggest admiration towards the series and would be looking glamorous on their shelves. For someone who haven’t read the series, its a good quick recap into the whole thing.

It was nice to revisit the books but the Lady W's Society Papers new inserts did not bring much to the story already established with the series of 9 Bridgerton books. It feels very much like a cash book to capitalize on the show's success.
