Some things are better left in the past, especially when they’re spirits with a grudge.
Rika has proven herself a true spirit seeker – one that protects and communicates with spirits. And finally, Wulf seems to be on board with the changes. After finding a mention in an old diary, the Berlin Team is off to Dublin to investigate the connection between druids and spirit seekers. For several years now, Dublin has reported no major spirit attacks, making them an anomaly in the SSA. But if Rika and the others thought, they’d be welcomed, they are sorely disappointed. Dublin’s spirit seekers mistrust Wulf and refuse their help when it comes to digging up the early history of the SSA. It is up to Rika to earn their trust, but the more she learns the more she begins to doubt Wulf and her place in his team. And if that weren’t enough, the city is suddenly under attack by vengeful dryads.

'When I look at you, I see something else. I see a light, a promise. ... A promise of something bigger. Something life-changing, mind-blowing... beautiful.'
This third part of Rika's tale finds her in Dublin, alongside her team, Wulf included. And this time around the author makes us take a straight dive into the folklore of Ireland. Just as fascinating and well-written as that of the previous books. The fantasy-mythology mix the series offers is absolutely fascinating and clearly well researched. The characters grow, the danger is just as great and Rika once again will have to prove herself to her team, as well as herself. Wulf still needs the occasional smack upside the head and another certain teammate could do with a well deserved dunk in a river. While Rika herself is starting to be quite a bit rash at times, in her eagerness to prove herself worthy.
I didn't love this part quite as much as the previous two, though it's fair to say book 2 had set a very high bar to keep up with. And I dove straight into the sequel as soon as I turned the last page.
Once again, Ms Ruth treats the reader to a delight of folklore thrust into a modern-day environment. With the team off to Ireland, I knew it was going to be an interesting journey. The meticulous attention to detail I've grown to love from this author, continued in this third installment of the series. The scene setting was superb, and every mythology-based detail of the plot well-written.
I loved watching the characters grow as they were exposed to new ideas, and experiences that could not be denied. The addition of Rory's character was a delight, and helped Rika evolve into the woman she needed to be. While I suspect there is still a lot of learning and growing left to be done on her road of self discovery, I'm enjoying watching it all unfold. The spirit adversaries in this book were great, and Rika's interaction with them a pleasure to read.
With the good, came a few ominous truths, indicating the world is a very different place than first thought. These plot points had me racing through the latter part of the book. I'm so hooked on this series!
Another great entry in this environmental warrior/urban fantasy series! I loved seeing Rika exploring Dublin and the Irish spirits. Happily book four is already published. You will definitely want to jump right into it when you get the huge cliffhanger at the end of three!
Unusually, I read this on my phone, so that I would not have to be too far away from it at any given time. This is my favorite book in the series so far, which is saying a lot! There is so much character growth, often in unexpected places, and the story continues to be utterly engaging. The humans and the spirits all have their individual and collective voices, often in complete opposition, and the attempts made to bridge the various gaps kept me reading compulsively. Now for the next book!
From travelling, learning about different cultures and the wonderful storyline, I thoroughly enjoyed this 3rd book. New and intriguing twists, made it really easy to continue turning the pages. Not to mention the dynamics within the character relationships, I just love it all. So looking forward to book 4, as the ending to this one really left me with my jaw dropped and that was just the last paragraph! :-)
