2022: I am beyond excited to be returning to this world. I always intended to write this book, as I purposely left things unfinished and open ended with Kearan and Sorinda. My editor and I initially discussed writing this book for the ten year anniversary of DAUGHTER OF THE PIRATE KING, but the sales team wanted it sooner, so here we are!

Some FAQs about the book:

Is this a standalone? Yes.

Can it be read without having read your other pirate books? Yes, but I think you’ll enjoy it more if you have read the Daughter of the Pirate King duology.

Are Alosa and Riden in the book? They’ll probably have brief cameo appearances.

What about Roslyn and Enwen? Niridia and Mandsy? For spoiler reasons, I can’t tell you that!

Vengeance of the Pirate Queen is a continuation of the Daughter of the Pirate King series, although I would call it a spinoff bc it follows different characters than DOTPK and DOTSQ. We follow Sorinda and Kearan, two side characters, from those books. When Alosa tasks Sorinda with captaining a ship sent on a mission to find a missing ship, Sorinda is out of her depth. Especially when she discovers Kearan will be the helmsman- a man she would rather avoid. But as the crew faces deadly sea monsters and dangerous waters, it turns out there may be something more sinister happening here than they anticipated...

I read Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen last year and really enjoyed both of them, so I was super excited to pick this up. And it did not disappoint! I had a lot of fun with this 🫶🫶

There was a lot I really enjoyed in this book ✨️ This series is just sm fun bc of the pirate vibes- i just love reading about pirates going on dangerous missions and falling in love along the way. It just hits every time 😍😍 Plus this series really just feels like Pirates of the Caribbean in book form, which is stunning 🫶

This book was so fast-paced and action-packed and I was fully entertained the whole time. I never knew where the plot was going and I enjoyed how different the story was from DOTPK and DOTSQ. Plus the ending was so so sweet!! 🥹🥹

The characters were all definitely very enjoyable as well! ✨️ i really liked getting to see a lot of the side characters again and get to know them better 🥰🥰

➵ Sorinda: ugh she was such a good mc! 😩😩 Literally such a badass- i mean, she's a pirate assassin for goodness sake 🤭🤭 she was very closed off at the beginning and never let anyone in, but seeing her finally let her walls down was so amazing. i love her sm 🥺🥺🫂🫂
➵ Kearan: he wasn't my fav at first, but he really grew on me as the book went along. not the ideal book bf, but he's literally so so sweet and caring and that was really refreshing to see 🥹🥹💓💓
➵ Roslyn: my fav 7 year old pirate 🤭🤭 I don't usually love kids in books, but she was so cool and her friendship with sorinda was adorable ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

The romance definitely wasn't my fav at the beginning, but it actually got really good the more the book went on. There were so many sweet moments between the two of them and the way Kearan helped sorinda realise she was worthy of love & heal from her past? STOP MY HEART 😭😭❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹 Sorinda and Kearan deserve the world 🥺🥺🫂🫂

Overall, this was just such a fun read! 🤭🤭 Definitely pick up this series if you're looking for:

I fell for her completely. And while the romance didn’t sweep me off my feet right away (I did briefly hope the King of the Undersea would be a romantic twist — oops, sorry Kearan 😭), it did grow on me. The way Sorinda and Kearan’s bond slowly unfolded felt real, sweet, and satisfying by the end. 🤍
I really hope Tricia gives us even more stories in this universe… I’d happily sail with this crew again. 🤍🌊✨

Honestly, this whole entire series really does thrive on its easy and quick writing coupled with some genuinely fun adventures, but the lacklustre romance disappoints time and time again.

It’s one of those stories that you read without too much thought and without an intense amount of feeling, but one that will still manage to entertain you throughout and never let you feel too bored.
It’s a somewhat average read that is only worth reading if a quick adventure is what you’re in the mood for.

What you should not be picking this up for, however, is a beautiful, meaningful or even vaguely developed romance, because you won’t be getting it; there is romance here, but it plays quite a minor part and it’s not very convincing due to the lack of time that is spent on it in the story.
Although the romance does pretend to be important to the story, it doesn’t feel like that because of how little the love interests actually interact with each other. They supposedly understand each other like no other, but we are more so told this than shown.
Additionally, I felt no chemistry or tension between them. They could have just as likely been friends instead of lovers, and even that would have been a strech since they had hardly any real friendship between them, let alone love.
Honestly, the talk of romance only really comes up a couple of times, and he only confesses his feelings once at the very end, which is such a shame because I would have loved to see more of his genuine feelings:

“You don’t need my feelings and thoughts making things harder. Besides, if I showed you exactly how much I want you, you would only distance yourself further from me. This way, I could help. This way, I could be your sailing master for the voyage. Your confidant. Your friend. I couldn’t have become any of those things if you thought I wanted even more.”
My knuckled turn white on the knife. “So you did lie to me.”
“I said I didn’t want anything from you. And that’s true. I don’t want just anything. Sorinda, I want everything with you.”

That said, I did like both of them, although I was less intrigued by them than when I was reading about them as side characters in the previous two books.
Sorinda did deliver quite a bit when it came to the expected coldness and ruthlessness, but I think I was still expecting her to be a little darker. Her over-the-top feminism and hatred for men was rather annoying as well; I feel like it made her character seem so much more shallow and cliché than what I was hoping she’d be.
Kearan on the other hand was completely different from what he was like previously; sure, that could be considered a good thing, seeing how much of an unhappy drunk he used to he, but I feel like he could have still kept some of his previous characteristics or personality now that he was healthy. It’s like I was reading about an entirely new person…
Which is all such a shame, because I was so excited about reading about these two and their romance when they were like their past selves…

Anyway, long story short, this has its pros and its cons, and it’s important to know what to expect here so you won’t be disappointed. If you do go in with the right expectations, this can be a quick and easy bit of fun.

Read this in one sitting. I love Tricia Levenseller’s writing and this book was very enjoyable.
The romance was swoony (grumpy (her) / sunshine (him) vibes).
What I loved the most about this trilogy were the characters depth & how multilayered they were.
This author certainly knows how to address traumas.

I’ve read almost all books of Tricia Levenseller and for me, her books are a hit or miss. There are books which I love written by her, but there are also books written by her which I really didn’t like.
I loved reading Daughter of the Pirate King and the sequel Daughter of the Siren Queen so I was thrilled to see another book in this world building would come and see the characters from the first two books back in this book. With the love and humor I had for these two books, I decided to dive into this book.

This book felt boring for me to be honest, there’s not much that really happened until the last part of the book. I didn’t feel any chemistry between the two main characters. Beside that, Sorinda, the female main character is for the most part of this book closed up and gives everyone the cold shoulder. I didn’t like her and even though she explains herself towards the ending, I still didn’t like her because it took her too long, to feel any sympathy for her or the choices she made.

The first two books had a lot of banter, romance, action and characters I felt, too bad this book didn’t had any of this.

⤅ The age of 'assassin' heroines who NEVER killed anyone (looking at you, Celaena Sardothien) is long gone.

One of the reasons I never got into Throne of Glass is because - even at age 11/12 - I felt very strongly that any character who was billed to me as a cutthroat assassin should, at some point, actually be a cutthroat assassin. This particular book opens with 18-year-old Sorinda Veshtas murdering an entire house of people, so we can safely say she's got cutthroat assassination in spades.

The original Daughter of the Pirate King duology focused on half-siren pirate queen, Alosa. As her personal assassin, Sorinda is her right hand, so when a ship of Alosa's goes missing Sorinda is tasked with captaining a rescue crew. 20-year-old Kearan Erroth, to her dismay, is going to be the helmsman.

Kearan was introduced to us as a fat, ugly drunk (the stuff of romance heroes). After Sorinda emptied all his alcohol overboard, he started to clean himself up - so he no longer drinks and has put on some muscle, though of course he'll never be handsome. Fortunately, he appears to have got over the irritating little crush he harboured on her. She can't be dealing with pesky things like emotions. Right? Especially not when she and her crew wash up on an island, where she accidentally awakens Threydan, the immortal King of the Undersea, who decides he wants her as his bride.

This is a proper 'high seas' book, with sea monsters and shipwrecks and all the good stuff. There's also a very strong nod to Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, though I won't say how.

Sorinda is a FABULOUS heroine. Her transformation from uncaring, unfeeling assassin to someone who'd allow Kearan into her life was achieved slowly and believably. If you're into the grumpy/sunshine trope (with a grumpy heroine), this absolutely fits. Kearan is the ultimate supportive hero; I usually like heroes with a bit more of an edge, but he gets some good lines and did grow on me. He's definitely perfect for Sorinda.

I also like how the book manages to be overtly feminist without being TOO didactic about it, a balance YA books in particular rarely achieve.

The plot is where it falls down a little. Threydan is supposed to be some unkillable, all-powerful being, so the way Sorinda ultimately deals with him felt a bit too... easy. It just wrapped up too quickly.

What an adventure!

It felt so good to be back in this world and on the High Seas with a pirate crew. I loved this cast of characters, both new and old.

With a truly chilling villain and an army of the Undead, I was on the edge of my seat.

There was a tiny touch of romance, battles on the ocean, sea monsters and more.

It was just so great to revisit. I hope there are more stories to come.

I listened to the audio and I can't recommend it enough!

When I originally read the Daughter of the Pirate King duology, I loved the pirates, action, and side characters, but I felt that the characters were a little bit shallow and the romance rushed. However, when I got to the second book and a romance between Kearan and Sorinda was hinted at, I kept reading for them. So I went into Vengeance of the Pirate Queen ready to love the characters and romance, but wary of the writing style. Luckily, I found this book to be a great improvement on the first two. The writing style was more mature, as were the characters, who had the depth that I was looking for in Alosa and Riden. Although I found the first half of this book a bit slow in terms of romance and adventure, the second half more than made up for it. I loved seeing Kearan and Sorinda's story unfold, and this story's quest and monster were very interesting.

I loved this book it was as good or better than the ones involving Alosa I loved reading more about Sorinda and Kearan their slow to start love story. I loved the characters so much the ones from before and new ones and learning more about the ones that are established as well. I especially loved Sorinda and Kearan it takes awhile for her to accept Kearan for many reasons at lot of it is her childhood trauma and how it shaped the rest of her life up until now. I loved her bravery and how she sees certain things and how she finally believed she deserved love and a happy life. I loved Kearan even if he can be a bit persistent he knows when to back off and slow down I loved how he expressed his love for Sorinda. I loved the plot it starts with Sorinda assassinating someone bad moves on to things about Kearan and then to her going to find lost pirates many things happen along the way she tries to fight falling in love fails and gets the acceptance she very much needed about what happened when she was a child other things happen the day is saved and there is a happy ever after.

This was a fun addition to this YA series!

We focus more on Sorinda instead of Alosa in this book which was a refreshing change. Sorinda is Alosa’s assassin, but she is given a different task in this book.

Sent to captain a ship on a voyage to find out what happened to a previous ship that hasn’t been heard of.

With plenty of action, magic and monsters I was flipping through the pages. It’s a little twee in places, but for a YA it can be expected.

I’m a big fan of this authors writing so will definitely be reading more of her books.

This book is killer! Literally. Fans of DAUGHTER OF THE PIRATE KING will love this new journey with Sorinda as the main character. She’s an assassin, Captain, and all around awesome pirate.

The story starts out bloody as Sorinda kills an old foe and wreaks vengeance on his crew for what they did to a female servant. The author doesn’t shy around darkness, but she doesn’t get overly detailed either. Sorinda is then made captain of the Vengeance; a perfect name for her ship! She sets out with her new crew to find some of the Queen’s missing pirate spies. As well as some old friends like Kearan, who is still sober and in love with Sorinda. The spies were following the land king as he tried to discover the panaceum; a siren artifact that makes a person invincible. Nothing on the trip goes to plan which forces both Sorinda and Kearan to share their vulnerabilities. There is beautiful character development as they face their pasts with forgiveness and their futures with hope. It’s a swashbuckling adventure that you won’t want to miss!

You don’t have to have read the first two books to appreciate Sorinda’s sharp sword, but I absolutely adore Alosa the Pirate Queen and would highly recommend them.

I absolutely loved the first two books in this series, so I was really excited to read the third installment. Vengeance of the Pirate Queen did not let down. There is something about the way these books are making that make me forget I am reading.

The pirate queen, Alosa, sends one of her best assassins, Solinda, on an important mission that has nothing to do with an assassination. Solinda is tasked with a rescue mission to save crew members Alosa had infiltrate one of the land king’s ships and who have failed to check in. Going with Solinda is Kearan, who has shown Solinda more affection than she would like. The journey does not go as planned and from sea monsters to an island filled with a variety of threats, including the King of the Undersea who can control the dead, the trip turns into a wild adventure.

I absolutely loved that we got a new perspective in this book. I loved reading Alosa’s story in the first two books, but it was really nice to see Solinda’s story in this one. She is in the first two books, but in those I found her to be a bit mysterious and I was curious about her. She is both damaged and strong in a complex, but intriguing way.

I loved every moment of this book, and it was an easy 4 stars for me. I am very hopeful that there will be more books in this wonderful series.

No one can dethrone Tricia Levenseller, queen of YA fantasy 👑 Aye, winter be the perfect season to set sail into this adventure! Typically pirate stories take place in tropical settings, so it's definitely a treat to swashbuckle into snowy terrain! But whoever could lead a crew through such foreign conditions? Cue Sorinda Veshtas: badass assassin—clever and unapologetic, vengeance incarnate. Yet, at her core lies a softness, a yearning to trust and belong. And the romance in this with a certain "he's not handsome. He looks REAL, like a man hardened by life on the sea" man named Kearan is one FOR THE AGES. Seriously, one of my favorite SHIPS of all time (pun intended) 🏴‍☠️❄️🩵🗡️🐙🌊 (OG READ 11/2023)

NOTE: You don't have to read the duology (Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen) to enjoy this spin-off set in the same fantasy world, but I certainly recommend it! You get more Enwen that way—a superstitious goofball who's constantly claiming Kearan as his bestie.

REREAD 11/2023: Immediately jumped back in after finishing it for the first time! The audiobook is superb. Kristi Bohn's voice is PERFECT for Sorinda. Mysterious yet inviting.

REREAD 1/2025: I still resonate with Sorinda so much... except for the whole she's a skilled and lethal assassin bit, tehe.

To seria idealna dla fanów Jacka Sparrowa, przygód i morza. Gwarantowany brak nudy - a książki te są idealne na sam początek przygody z fantastyką. "Córka Króla Piratów" była jedną z pierwszych książek, jakie kupiłam przez booktoka dwa lata temu. Czytałam ją już dwa razy i zrobiłabym to jeszcze raz! Ta seria się nie starzeje❤️‍🔥

this book sucks almost as much as the cover. which i thought wouldn’t even be possible, as the cover makes me wanna kms.

everything that is wrong with this book:

1: Sorinda the fmc who has the personality of a saltless boiled broccoli.

2: Kearan (his name sucks too) the love interest has even less personality than Sorinda.

3: the fact that they have no chemistry. absolutely zero. negative chemistry.

4: did i mention the cover sucks?

5: almost nothing happens throughout the whole book. they wake up in the ship, sorinda sulks, kearan and sorinda has a conversation that puts me to sleep, rosalyn whines, sorinda sulks again, repeat.

6: sorinda pulled an Alina. she literally refused to be an immortal queen of dead when the hottest immortal undead king (who can cook!!!) asks her to be his queen. girlie wants to date the fucking farmer. (not a spoiler, it's written in the blurb)

7: the fact that this is a sequel of daughter of the pirate king aka the cutest pirate book of all time and this is a disgrace at this point

8: we don't even get to see alosa riden moments which might have made this book at least a little bit tolerable.

i would rate this book zero stars if i could but goodreads won't let me be mean so 1 whole star it is.

Ahhh, I'm so glad to be back in the world of Daughter of the Pirate King! I didn't expect another book in this series, but boy am I glad about it!

I already loved Sorinda and Keanan in the previous books, and I love them even more now, no surprise there. I feel like the tone of this book was a lot more grown-up then Alosa's storyline. Even though Sorinda is only 18, she's been through so much, it made her feel like an old soul. I love how Keanan can get her out of her shell and her comfort zone. I adore them together!

The whole storyline with the undead was a little disturbing, but I'm glad that all's well that ends well!

I'm crossing my fingers and toes for a Niridia book next!
