About the author
Kevin Albert

Branding Secrets
Kevin Albert
I read this book After I read his series “Successful Self-Publishing”. In the first book of that series, he kept mentioning that it took him a long time to research and write this book. He might have been writing his MBA thesis with Branding Secrets book, I don’t know. What I do know is that there is horrible formatting for a Kindle book.
There are about Three great gems in here. However, I have read and taken courses on Branding, and most of what is stated in the book you can get from a low cost class on Udemy.
I would suggest making this book into a class.
I used the Kindle App to read the book and have Highlights and Notes.
Highlight - Location 181
Note - This seems to be true with many companies and ideas.
Highlight - Location 244
clearly identified target customer: Note Your Ideal Client or Customer
Words that are important:
Mission.
Vision.
Values.
Positioning.
Highlight - Location 810
CHAPTER TWOO
Note - Misspelled Two
Important Words
Formal Identity
Verbal Slogan.
Storytelling.
Visual identity.
Logo.
Corporate colors.
Corporate typeface. Note - Or font
Highlight: difference between serif and sans serif.
Note: You would think most know about this.
Website.
Note: The style should be the same as other titles.
Highlight: 1494
CMS?
Note: This should be explained before this spot.
Video Branding
Low cost recording.
4.1. Low cost recording.
Should be styled similarly as above.
Things Needed:
Camera.
Good audio.
Lighting.
4.2 Low cost editing.
Note: Good Info.
Offer to write one or two articles for specialized magazines within your sector.
Note: Good ideas
Table of Contents (TOC) twice in the back and once in the front.
All in all, this book could have been made into a low cost online course, and I believe it would do well that way.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Brief overview of branding process on a low budget.
In a book written after this one, the author describes how this text was four years in gestation before publishing. It originated from his university studies and is the distillation of his own (sometimes hard-won and costly) experience and advice from other entrepreneurs.
The author is careful not to claim this as a do it yourself manual, but does point out which parts of the process you can do without cost as your insight and personality are central to the purpose. He gives you questions to answer which help you arrive at your brand identity.
Those parts of the process needing professional input are clearly identified and good value resources and how to select your working partner are given. He makes a good case for identifying your brand values and image at the outset rather than trying to retrofit later on when mistakes may need rectifying (which is more difficult and expensive).
The end of the book gives a strategy where zero investment is needed by the entrepreneur at the outset. Achieving this as a freshly minted entrepreneur seems unrealistic and would be better in a separate book. I would have liked more information about how to contract with and keep copyright when working with outside agents. Maybe the author sees this as legal advice, but it is a vital part of the process. The author's arithmetic in claiming the branding can be done for less than $1,000 is also lacking as his own suggested figures are almost $1,200. Nevertheless, that is a substantial saving on the $30,000 or more you may be quoted by a branding agency. Another omission is the costs of maintaining and refreshing the brand. The emphasis is solely on starting although the book is entitled branding secrets and examples are given of how companies evolve and refresh their brands. How to monitor brand performance and perception would also be helpful; and relevant to the title.

I love Kevin's writing style. It is a bit acid and sarcastic but very, very entertaining.
Besides, the book offers really applicable advise that is going to save you a ton of money. I have already applied some of it for my current ventures and it is definitely worth it.

Amazing book for people that want to start a brand. I have read a lot of books in the subject and this is by far one of the best one. The autor deconstructs the idea that to open a business or brand you need to spend a lot, and show you how to do it with the same quality but for a huge cut in the budget needed.
