Linnaeus would have found this book old-fashioned. The author simply does not understand evolution as a science, and treats the central concepts of evolution and descent as questionable add-ons. If this is where you learnt biology, you need to re-learn it. Fortunately, the current generation of Scottish biology texts is much, much better.
