Enslaved by Anubis: A Sci-Fi Alien Warrior Romance

Rate this book
I no longer fear death, I fear life.

My father sold me into slavery; my brother abandoned me.
The river of pain flowing inside me has been blocked by my hardened heart.
A slave must accept that she is just an object to be used by her masters.
We are simply commodities, traded or sold at will.
I am now the property of the Cult of the Dead.

This is a place of hellish nightmares.
The screams of torture and terror echo through the mighty halls of the palace.
Everywhere I look I am faced with a new, horrifying glimpse into my future.
I promise myself that they will not break me but I know that everyone breaks—It’s just a matter of time.

In a world of unspeakable violence and horrors, I find an unlikely savior.
Anubis, lord of the underworld, has risen from the depths wielding his flaming sword of justice.
He may have slaughtered my masters, but I am far from free.
Beneath his divine, emerald eyes, I see the savage lust of a wild beast.
When he comes for me, I have no choice but to submit or suffer the gruesome fate of his other victims.
He makes me do unspeakable things, debase myself completely.
He takes me, uses me, possesses me.

The scary thing is—I love it.

Welcome to Yoria.

This place might seem familiar to you in some respects, but totally alien in others. On this dark, brutal world there is not much in the name of hope. Humans are the playthings of the gods—lower than animals. But, sometimes, the paths of two beings can cross and send a ripple through the universe. Love has the power to change the future of an entire planet. These are the stories of the fated mates of Yoria.

Drama, action, violence, sex, love.

Author’s All of the books in this series contain graphic violence and dark themes, but they make the happy ending all the more satisfying. Also, I hate cliffhangers, so you definitely won’t be finding any of them. I strongly recommend that the books be read in order to get the most out of this series!

This amazing cover sure did catch my eye.

This was my first read by Veronica Dean. I liked the "syfy" origin story behind Anubis and the Egyptian Gods. I liked Zanika, the h and Egyptian slave, she was one tough cookie. When it came to Anubis/Neb, I needed more details. I'm a visual reader. I wanted to know more about his half dog, half man appearance, and the mechanics. How did they even kiss? More details on his fur and body for example would have helped me to picture him better in my mind.

There definitely were some twists I didn't see coming, and I enjoyed the originality. I felt there definitely need more in regards to the start and beginning of Zanika and Neb's budding relationship. It felt like it tried to skip over some and go straight to the end where they were deeply in love. It caused me to not be as invested in their relationship as I would have liked to be.

I liked the premise of the overarching storyline and where this series might go, but I'm not sure I'll keep going. I'll definitely have to see if the blurb catches my attention.

I think it's safe to say that after putting it on hold for 6 months I won't be finishing it.

Trigger warning for r*pe and torture and probably other things but I can't remember.

Very good read, the characters are complex. I liked the story and plot. There are times when you get frustrated at what’s going on and need to pause before continuing. Overall very good pace and good ending.

An alien (Neb) is sent down to a planet of humans under the disguise of being the god,Anbus, a deity this race put in place as a way to control the humans and do their bidding on this planet and fight other alien races who have also set up “camp” on the planet and control their humans.
Zenika, a slave, to sold to a cult that worships the fake god of Anubis. Must try and fight her destiny of now becoming a sex slave to this horrid cult.
The ‘real’ Anubis arrives and takes of the cult to rebuild the plan of using the humans as labor.
Neb has an insta-lust for Zenika which surprises him as they do not fornicate or follow physical desires. Zenika and Neb form an attachment.
How will Neb complete his mission? What if his superiors find out?
I really enjoyed the ending and how everything tied together about how the new life on this planet filled with humans will move forward.

This is the first book in the series that I have read. I think I would of enjoyed the book better if knew more about the world or more recaps and descriptions were given. I enjoyed the creative retelling of Egyptian mythology and mix of Sci-Fi elements.
I personally had some trouble connecting with the main characters and their story development but other people may not. They did not have a real conversation until have they had been together for a second time, and that was bit hard for me follow.

4 1/2 stars - This is a romance story with a touch of darkness which is about Anubis and a slave, Zanika, that he rescues or does he? The touches of darkness that Zanika lives from her previous masters- Ansapata and Msamaki before Anubis arrives and takes her away from the Cult of the Dead is detailed and gives us a sympathetic ear to what Zanika endures. Then we discover Neb-en-khata (Anubis) is an alien who is assigned by Rah-ned-kru to portray Anubis to rule and bring order on Yoria. His first job is to get rid of Msamaki who is portraying Anubis the leader of the Cult of the Dead. Then he is to make the natives farm and mine more and last form an army. When they meet and what happens afterward is an engaging story the kept me flipping the pages. I enjoy reading Egyptian Myth stories and this ARC was a great story to start this series that was well written and piqued my interest for the next one. I loved the characters and their interactions in this enjoyable story that I received via Booksprout and I volunteer to review.

Zanika (h), a young human slave, has endured a terrible existence as a slave and thought that things would improve when she's taken by the Cult of the Dead. Alas, she's now been brought into an environment of unspeakable horrors and debauchery that the Cult perpetuates in support of their leader, the false Anubis. She finds herself and the other humans saved from the Cult when Anubis/Neb (H) shows up with his flaming sword that he uses to unleash bloodbath on the evil doers. But Anubis isn’t what he seems and Zanika will have to find out just who and what he is, even as they two are drawn together. Zanika is an amazingly strong and intelligent woman, and Neb is just so conflicted with his cultural values and his feelings for Zanika. Intense hot and steamy action between Zanika and Neb! Great romantic story and loved the origin storyline. Amazing start to the series.

This was a fast paced book that had plenty of action, suspense, drama, slavery, death are just a few things in this book that keeps you on your toes. Zanika is a human slave who has been sold of to the Cult of the Dead hopeing her life would be better but what she sees is horrifying but there’s nothing she can do about it. Anubis / Neb is lord of the underworld and has risen up and killed all of the Cult of the dead masters and sets his eyes on Zanika the slave and makes her his and takes what he wants from her with no mercy. Zanika knows there is something wrong with Anubis and he’s not what it seems to be. Anubis knows Zanika is on to him but she knows nothing about who he really is and that all he wants is peace and order to Yoria. Great read.

Heed the warnings given in the beginning of this. Its not for the fainthearted. Only read because it has Anubis in it. Interesting concept. This is my first alien romance and I have to say there is nothing endearing about the humans in this book. The spicy scenes were neither romantic or tender given the violence shown through out and I felt the relationship that developed between the MCs was a bit well "you aren't human so I'll fkuc you".
There's an intro into the next book in the series that I also read. Its engaging and I guess will bring those characters into the first book. But I'm giving the rest a miss.

I think this was a well put together story. The characters are well crafted and complex. And the world is interesting and similarly well built and dark. Zanika is a character that is easy to root for and the HEA feels well earned.

Nice book

I'm glad that I read this book it was a nice break from all the typical stuff I've been reading it has some honesty to it and some brutal parts but honest never the less and I can appreciate that the author to pick that the same is very well enough that you can visualize everything that's place

Let’s be honest… I played that game lovelink and there was a story in there about dating Anubis and… I just wanted to read about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ I did end up liking the characters and the lore a lot. Despite her upbringing Zanika was rebellious and unafraid to act. There were a lot of triggering images here though so please read content warnings before starting this book.

This was a mixed experience for me. There were parts that I loved, but there were also sections that felt like filler. The writing was good, but the story was a bit too predictable. It’s not a bad book, but it didn’t quite live up to the hype. Worth a read, but manage your expectations.

DNF @54% I really love the idea. There is so much potential in the plot and relationships. However I just cannot get past the writing style. It seems amateurish and awkward to read the dialogue between characters and inner monologues and prevents me from truly investing into the story.

Interesting premise, but didn't deliver. Author seems more comfortable writing scenes of torture than intimacy.
