A good storyline with some interesting characters. The only problem with this book is it looks like no one proofread the story. There are so many mistakes, it's comical.
This is my first book by Martha. This a very clean romance story. Catriona Fraiser has been raised her whole life in an orphanage. Life is tough for the older ladies as they must do all the work to stay there or get thrown out on the street. Catriona and her best friend, Alice have always been together. In a single meeting her whole life is about to change. Catriona finds out that she is the daughter of a peer !! Viscount Beaumore was her father. He left her at the orphanage after her mother died and he didn't think he could care for here. Now he has left her everything he had, money, estates, and a title. His family is as surprised as she is if not more. Overnight Catriona has gained a family, and now needs to learn in a few weeks what most young ladies learn from birth !! With help from her new family, she tries to do all they ask of her. The nicest of the bunch are Anthony and his wife Bridget. Antony's best friend Hanish Middleton was at Beau Manor her first day and helped her from falling. He had no idea what that would lead too. Hanish is the only son of a duke and his father has big plans for him regardless of what he wants. Hanish and his mean demanding father have never got along. His mother is the only parent he loves. As Hanish and Catriona spend time together, he helps her with her lessons and they feel more for each other then they should. At least others think so. Their are those in the ton that will do anything to get what they want. This couple with need all the help they can get if they don't see what is being done by others to keep then apart. Hurt feeling, secrets, plots, and lies will all work against them. This was a very different kind of story, with some intrigue and lots of emotions the story moves fast. I wish there had been more romance between Hanish and Catriona, other than what each thought of the other. Kissing, handholding something would have made the ending more real. I received and ARC from author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freeing giving it.
clean romance; Alice and Catriona are fellow inmates of an orphanage with little hope for a good life since the younger children are more likely to be adopted. Older children must either work and/or find a place to live elsewhere. But Catriona is the suddenly revealed heiress of the former Viscount Beamore. Lord Anthony Beamont and his wife Bridget are the current viscount and viscountess and welcome Catriona who chooses Alice as her maid to Beamont House. Lord Hamish Middleton is the friend of Anthony and the son of a duke who has chosen Lady Josette of the Ashmore family. Hamish refuses to commit to the betrothal since he wants his independence and does not like Lady Josette or her family. He has to get out of a trap set for him. In the epilogue he and Catriona sponsor an orphanage, and Catriona adopts a little baby girl to add to her family but also regards the children of the orphanage as her family.
A beautiful story of friendship, family and growing up in an orphanage, although I have no personal experience with orphanages. It was an interesting look at being brought up as a lady in society versus learning all about it in a few weeks time. Thank goodness it had a happy ending and epilog.
I was hoping it would improve as I read, but it didn't. There were many incongruous aspects that left me confused and frustrated. I often found it overdescriptive and slightly pedantic. There were many times I felt the author was telling me what to think rather than showing me with interesting dialog. It could have used a good editor.
I enjoyed the characters a great deal, I loved that this romance is a clean and wholesome story. There are some issues with redundancy in the dialogue that pulled me out of the story though. Stil, I enjoyed it and look forward to reading the next one in this series. Happy reading!
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters are very interesting and the story is entertaining. Their story is rich with their love and I really enjoyed reading about them, thank you, Jack.
I love a good Cinderella love story, and this one is sure to steal your heart. Raised in an orphanage, Catriona story is a twist of one of the greatest fairytales ever written. From rags to riches, and prince all her own. Thank you ❤️
Not a author I am likely to follow. The story was not bad but lacked any true imagination. Poor orphan versus mean girl. Not a new concept. Rich man steps forward to save the damsel in distress. (yawn).
Sweet story and characters, from rags to riches to prince charming. Everything the title indicated is this book. Sweet and romantic for everyones enjoyment. Martha Barwood tells a wonderful story with a new twist.
This story had everything you want in a story and reading get you get the Cinderella story going from rags to riches. Living in an orphanage one day and the next day wake up to find you are the daughter of a rich Viscount whom has left you his entire estate. The very thing you dreamed of has now come true, and now that your dream has come true, you can claim your Prince Charming that leads to your happily ever after. WOW what a story.
Very, very, very boring book. I couldn’t even read the first w/o chapters. Then I skipped to the final chapter to see what happened and that was boring too.
