I love reading and writing. I'm a mother to two teens and two Siamese cats. I've got an associate degree of creative writing and am a full-time author. I write paranormal cosy mysteries with heroines who are quirky, kind, and love to right wrongs and get justice. I also love to make people laugh and give them an awesome escape, which is why I tell stories.
I wonder how much longer the Dana will go on. But this story I think was part of the bigger family mystery but we will find out in the future. Glad Will and Lily seem to be making progress.
I bought Witchslapped in Westerham on release day and it didn't take long before I started reading it. It's another fun adventure filled with magic where we follow Lily. The stakes are upped even higher in this book as the troubles in the PIB come to a head and there's a big increase in violent crimes in Westerham. Lily has her hands full and has to learn as much magic as she can as fast as she can to solve this.
This time the mystery is focused on the violent crimes in Westerham and what caused them. And the PIB is in disarray and can hardly keep up with the work, so Lily takes it upon herself to help figure this out. There is even more going on with the PIB, the tensions for which have been building since the last book already and those also hit now.
And while it's another fun read, I have to say this is my least favorite book in the series so far. I think that mostly has to do with the actual nature of the crimes. The whole violent crimes thing, just wasn't interesting. Sure it was creepy, but it wasn't as interesting to me. It also seemed the kind of crime you just can't get away with, just because of how visible it is. It just didn't seem smart. Same goes with the villain in the PIB, who is not only overpowered, but she also behaves a bit like a bully. I just didn't find her interesting.
I also thought the powers of the villain seemed too strong compared to what we know about the world so far. There is a thing that explains it eventually, but it just felt like it came out of nowhere as I don't think we heard about this thing before. I also didn't like her kind of power. It just didn't fully work for me. And the event at the end where something happens, it again seemed too convenient. That person was a trained agent and he should've known better.
I do like how at the end they uncover a big clue toward the mystery of who is after Lily and what happened to their parents. Tat plot line has been very slowly progressing a bit with each book and it felt good to have them find this big clue and be a step closer to figuring it out. I am actually quite curious how this plot line will progress throughout the rest of the series.
One of my favorite parts of this book was seeing how Lily managed her magic, her powers grow a lot and she becomes more capable when it comes to spells. She is using magic a lot more for both important and mundane things and she really focuses on getting better, which was great to see. This book also really illustrates how special some of her powers are. Her photography skill isn't used as much in this book, but it is very important again.
There also is a bit of progression in the romance, but it felt too sudden and too much. I was happy with how parts of it were handled as it seems they're easing into it. I just didn't feel much of the build up, so it's hard to fully care about the romance now.
To summarize: Another fun mystery with Lily and her friends. While not my favorite book in this series it was still a good read and I had fun reading it. I wasn't fully pulled in by this time's mystery. The violent crimes increase seemed too big of a thing and lacked suspense or subtlety which was more present in the previous books. I also didn't care about the villain, she just didn't seem interesting and with her powers I couldn't believe there weren't more restrictions on her. She seemed a bit too overpowered, although that does get explained later on. I liked how Lily got better with magic in this book and worked a lot on her magic and improving and how once again her photography skill was important to solve the mystery. There also is a big clue for the plot line that continues throughout the series and I am curious how that will progress.
2.75⭐️ round up to three instead of down to two as IMO that’s unfair.
While this was better than the previous, I still didn’t really enjoy it. The writing is odd and Lily is still quite childish with certain things. There are things I want to find out about this story, such as what happened to her parents? Who is after her? What other powers will she gain? … I just don’t know if I am willing to read another one of these books yet.
Lily's day starts off with her being attacked at the grocery store. After getting home, they discover that it's not isolated as tempers are flaring all over the county of Kent, so much so that there aren't enough police to go around and the army has been brought in for reinforcements.
Another fun story with lots of action and page turning scenes.
LOVE this series!! Such fun plots and story lines. I always devour these books and then can’t wait for the next. There are a lot of changes that come with this book and have me on my toes for book #5!
When reading one of these PIB cozy mystery books, it is hard to put it down. And when you finish it, then it is impossible not to start the next in the series. This one made me wonder if Lily was going to lose someone close to her. As always well written and a temporary escape from reality.
Gosh I love Lily and this series! These books are so fun and I literally can’t put the book down until I finish and then I want more! I love all of the characters and the stories are so unique! I can’t wait to read the next one! I love Lily and Will, well everyone actually! I am now preordering the books! I’m obsessed!
Great series! An interesting twist on cozy mysteries - paranormal witches. I really like Lily and the cast of characters surrounding her. I’m so glad I caught this series a few books in so I didn’t have to wait for the next one to come out.
Just as Lily is settling into a routine of sorts with work and friends a strange violent crime wave occurs that affects only non witches. As Lily is brought into help Dana Will’s ex aka witchface ups her campaign to oust Lily from the PIB. One minute her life is going well the next everyone except her brother is against her and she’s cast adrift. I’ll skip the spoilers and let you read about how the bad guys are taken down. The ending kinda ticks me off a bit. On the one hand I’m happy that Lily is back in the fold and her friends are all repentant. On the other the thing with Will annoys me. He was cold, aloof, and dismissive even before the bad thing that turned everyone against Lily. Then he’s like are we ok and let’s go for a date. Lily agrees. That annoys me more. I don’t see broken trust being rebuilt in an instant, that’s just not healthy. So summarizing do I like the story yes. It’s compelling and Lily grows into her own witchy self some more which is good. Dana the shrew being exposed extra awesome. Everything being fixed in an instant at the end is a bit to sitcom for me and strikes false with the tone of the series in my opinion. Am I going to read more in the series yes. I think it’s a great cozy mystery series. Just not a fan when authors wrap everything up in a pretty bow when it’s completely unrealistic.
Bloody brilliant addition to Dionne Lister's incredible series.
By far this book has rocketed to my favourite so far. While this is partly because I’m fully invested in the characters and Lily’s journey, a pretty major reason for my vote is the tension and depth of emotion. I felt for Lily so damn much during her journey. The author managed to take my breath away many times and legit dragged my anger out of me super efficiently when I was indignant and at times furious on Lily's behalf.
Dionne Lister has achieved something truly amazing with not only this series but this book.
Refreshing, clever, and oh so bloody hilarious, it’s impossible not to fall head over heels for Dionne Lister's entertaining cast of characters.
Poor Lily, the heroine of this book. She is a novice witch with a lot of untapped power. She works as an occasional consultant for the paranormal investigation bureau, PIB. PIB just brought in a high ranking investigator from NYC, Dana, who happens to be the ex-girlfriend of Will, Lilly's crush. Oh my, Will is sending mixed signals. He and Dana seem attached at the hip. But Will does not necessarily seem happy about it. And Dana is acting like the witch she is: Mean, mean, mean. Not only that, but almost everyone in Westerham is acting crazy. The PIB is not investigating it, so Lily is on her own. But she is a great investigator. You will not believe what is going on! Great story.
The more I read this series, the more involved I get to learning about the different characters. Yes there are times I can roll my eyes on how immature can be, but that can be forgiven as the plot evolves. I'm truly glad that Lily is liked again, that Wil is finally...oops not going to say and hey what about that baby who is soon to be born is it a girl or boy? A great book for all ages.
Just to think I'm now moving to the next book in the series..am I bewitched?
Witchslapped in Westerham (Paranormal Investigation Bureau Cozy Mystery Book 4)
Just loving this series of books, this authors sense of humour and brilliant imagination. As a British woman living in London, it is amusing to read an Aussies impression of us. Thirsting for more, I am going through a book a day. I highly recommend this book and the series for all, from teens to adults with some sense of humour. Going off to get the next one, for my fix of Lily and the PIB.
Mind control is very frightening and when done by a vindictive, evil person it is horrific. Dana broke Will's heart and threatens his growing relationship with Lily. It feels like everything is turning against Lily and she is struggling to fix it. I felt more angst in this installation of the series.
Witchslapped in Westerham is book number 4 in Dionne Lister's Paranormal Investigation Bureau Cosy Mystery series. This series is such an enjoyable easy read I have absolutely no faults to pick, except maybe that they are very difficult to put down!
Very much looking forward to reading the next episode of the continuing story, book 5, Witch Silenced in Westerham.
This is a humerous adventure with Lily finally admitting her feelings for William. She learns new magic spells and has a hard time helping to bring to justice the perpertrators of chaos which takes over large areas of Kent. Great book and looking forward to the next one in the series. Great storyline again.
I am enjoying this series. It gets better with each book. Lily and Will finally worked everything out. Their feelings were obvious to everyone but them. Dana is something else. I was trying to figure out her angle but I wasn’t expecting what happened. Can’t wait to read the next book and I would recommend this series to anyone who likes paranormal stories with quirky characters.
Well I didn't like that yet another psychopath wanted Lily dead. I also didn't like that Will and Beren were not in this book very much. Lily's ramblings in her own head can get annoying to keep reading. I did like the ending. Finally is really the best word for it.
Another great read in this series. The characters are developing nicely and their interpersonal relationships are coming along as well. And a semi mystery helps to round out a fun read. Have already started number 5! :)
I love, love, love this series. The characters are lovable and amazing, the plots are awesome as the storyline are not only interesting, enjoyable and entertaining, but hugely comical too.
I can’t believe Dana got away but then again it’s making for an interesting storyline and how she knew about Lily. I’m glad none of the main characters died and now Lily and Will are going to start dating - it’s about time!
