The Islamic Republic of Iran is home to a Christian community that flourishes in secret. Joshua is one of the founders of the largest Christian groups in Iran today. Born into an affluent, religiously devout Muslim family, Joshua rejected that faith in his mid-teens. After a rebellious youth he converted to Christianity and began his ministry with the homeless and addicted of Tehran, but he couldn't avoid the scrutiny of the oppressive Iranian government. He was arrested, tortured, and incarcerated in the notorious Evin Prison. After his release he was forced to flee to Turkey as a refugee. While there he began another church to serve the refugee community. Joshua's arrival in America brings new challenges, new opportunities, and a family he never anticipated. This inspiring true story is a journey through three countries, the joys and losses of a man's life and his practical approach to faith grounded in the love and acceptance of all people.
The story is amazing and Captivated me. The story of Love, Loss, Arts, and Hope. As Joshua wrote in his Book about all those sleepless nights, there were times where he had no words to express his feelings. So he picked up some paper and began to draw. His art and expressing his feeling through the art is amazing.. IBecoming Joshua: His First Two Lives love to go and see his arts...
I could not stop reading this book. I'm normally a one-or-two chapters a night type of gal, but this book was different for me! I read it all in one night without putting it down. It gives such a real take on the reality of this world, and the themes of true distress were at times difficult for me to read. This book truly changed my outlook, and I feel myself feeling more grateful for the freedom I currently have. Joshua is a survivor. And finally his voice is being heard. It's up to us to listen.
This book is an amazing story. I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it to everyone who wants to know the truth and the reality of what going on in other countries. Also, the art part was amazing and showed how Joshua tried to show his pain through every possible tool he has like; Writing and drawing. Well done.
