When a job for a full-time nanny/housekeeper is posted in Langdon, NC, Poppy Delacorte is quick to apply. Jumping at the opportunity to move after a public shaming by her deceitful ex- boyfriend, she accepts the offer. When she arrives at her destination, Poppy learns there’s been some kind of mix-up at the agency and her new employer refuses to hire her because she’s not a gray-haired older woman. Something about younger women working for him and vying for the next Mrs. Jordan Perry position.
But before she can even make arrangements to figure out what to do or where to go next, Jordan seeks her out and offers her a temporary arrangement since he has no one to watch Katrina.
Poppy is secretly relieved with the reprieve, vowing to be the perfect nanny/housekeeper so that it becomes a permanent arrangement.
Jordan leaves on business—which in turn, leaves Poppy and Katrina trying to muddle through their new relationship and life. Except she doesn’t always get it right, discovering that teaching and nannying are two very different jobs.
Will Poppy need to move on and keeping searching for the place where she belongs and God’s plan for her life, or could this be where she finally puts down roots?
Elsie Davis is a USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR of over 25 novels. She writes sweet, clean & wholesome contemporary romance and is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writer's association. At the age of twelve, Elsie discovered the world of Happily-Ever-After romance when she began avidly reading Barbara Cartland, the Queen of Romance, and has been hooked ever since. After building her dream log home on top of a small mountain, she turned her attention to do what she loves most...writing. Three daughters, five grandchildren, and her own hero husband, keep her extremely busy. When Elsie's not glued to the keyboard, she loves boating, birding, camping, fishing, wildlife, disc golf and nature walks. Basically, all things outdoors, EXCEPT cold weather. Her and her husband love Caribbean cruises, but Elsie’s favorite vacation was their cruise to Alaska. (In spite of the cold!) Indoors, she enjoys a toasty fire, a glass of red wine, and of course, a great romance (Hallmark-Style) with a guaranteed Happily-Ever-After.
Poppy packs up after she and her ex break up to start a job as a housekeeper/nanny. Jordan refuses to hire her based on her age (she’s too young). I should point out that this action is illegal and is age discrimination. You also cannot ask a person age when hiring them. But I digress.
Jordan is forced to hire Poppy temporarily and then immediately leaves her with his five year old daughter. Also, so problematic.
I liked this story overall but I had a couple issues with it that didn't detract from my liking the story! Poppy was delightful, even though she was raised by a strict nanny and nonexistent parents. She was almost like a modern-day Mary Poppins! However, when she is first hired for the job of nanny/housekeeper, Jordan, immediately tells her that she's "non acceptable" because she's much too young and he wants an older woman so he basically fires her - what? After she's quit her job in another state and come all that way for a promised job, you tell her she doesn't have one based on age? Can you say lawsuit? Then Poppy just says, "ok" and heads out to the diner to figure out her next move? That was very farfetched to me! Jordan doesn't even try to help her out with a place to stay or anything else, just watches her walk away. However, he does end up hiring her because he can't find anyone else. The rest of the book is great though, once you get past that first part! The little girl, Katrina, is darling!
What a great story! Imagine running away from misconceptions and lies by an ex boyfriend to another state and another job only to be told you aren’t old and grey enough! That’s what happened to Poppy our female mc who seems sweet and full of humour and in a way reminded me of a modern Mary Poppins despite her struggles. Then you meet Jordan our male mc who gets more then he bargains for when he asks Poppy to stay and look after his adorable five year old daughter Katerina after he realises he has no choice and then you have the town. I love small towns and how they behave and make you feel like family and that you are home. Romance, faith and friendship are a great combination for a great story.
I liked Poppy right from the start. She had a wonderful sense of humor plus she was going to be a nanny to cute, five year old, Katrina, whose mom had died. The activities she did with Kat sounded fun and made her seem like a modern day Mary Poppins. I also enjoyed how the town of Langdon and the women at the church took Poppy in and made her finally feel like she had a home. I especially liked the romance that sparked between Poppy and Jordan and all of his romantic gestures to get Poppy to be his wife even if his words did not always help him. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Poppy has a huge problem when she arrives in a new town & it appears her job as a nanny is over before it even begins. But Jordon decided he has no choice but to let her stay at his ranch as he has no other prospect to be with his daughter. Poppy struggles with the public opinion that is not favorable toward her. I liked this story because her heart is in the right place in spite of the criticism, her love for his daughter, Katrina, & her love for Jordon. There is an HEA. I received a free copy. I am leaving a voluntary review.
Poppy’s trusting issues started as a young child, with absents parents and a hard and unloving nanny. She is tired of running from everyone. CAn Langdon, their people and a handsome widower cowboy an de his five years old daughter help her find love and happiness? Sweet
I received a free advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. Poppy is trying to relive her childhood through Katrina and it seems to backfire, but then Poppy learns to trust people. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
The story was great and I really enjoyed it, however, there were a lot of places that really need to be edited. Like chapter 7 sounded a lot like parts of the previous chapter. Might want to go through again and update. Sometimes rushing to publish isn't as important as getting a good reading text. There were editing issues in the first book of this series too but not as bad. Like I said, the stories are great!!
You will not like Jordan at the beginning of the book – he is an opinionated and rather biased man that thinks only an old lady should be a nanny to his daughter. He comes off as a little full of himself, convinced that every young marriageable woman is out to rope in for themselves.
I loved when Poppy called him on his crap! She has a spine and I think more romance heroines need to stand up for themselves without being snarky or mean. When she finally arrives at Jordan’s ranch, her love for children is quite clear, and Katrina and her bond very quickly. For much of the story, their relationship overshadowed the potential relationship between Poppy and Jordan. But as Jordan’s daughter, I think it was just as important for Katrina to fall in love with Poppy.
I feel like I never really got to know Jordan very well. He obviously loves his daughter more than anything, and he really wants what’s best for her. But that’s really got from him for most of the story. I really wanted to see more beneath the surface and in his heart.
This is book two of The Great Smoky Mountain Getaways series, but can definitely be read as a stand-alone book.
**I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book**
A very interesting storyline that had a few issues to begin with, but I just let my mind sink into the story and tried to keep an open mind. I thought the characters were very well done and just flowed within the overall story. Poppy has run from bad issues and seems to find love and acceptance in this small community. The caring and love that is extended from the women of the church to her offers a way to see herself going forward. A sweet romance with God alive and well in this small town America.
I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary, honest, and completely personal review. VICKI FROM WYOMING
Coming from lies, rumors, no trust and some faith. Poppy is offered a new job which she is grateful for, especially to escape the rumors going on around her. But life isn't what is seems. I wished Poppy could've been a tad more secure with herself instead of her "OK" and walking away. I feel Jordan used her especially after telling her she wouldn't be hired 1 minute, then turning around and giving her the job but only temporarily, then having her live in the bunkhouse....seriously?! I know it's better than not having a roof over her head, but still.
Lovely, sweet, inspirational story. Poppy's story is also a heartfelt one, she's a very realistic character with such a loving heart. Flight has always been second nature for her. This new path has some of the usual challenges for her but the support she runs into this time around is wholesome, encouraging and strengthens her to consider breaking her track record and take a chance on an opportunity to find love and a place called home. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a darling story of a young woman searching to put down roots. The author uses fun-filled adventures between a nanny and the little girl she cares for to present heartfelt love amidst the unsettled situation Poppy finds herself in. Added to that is the handsome single dad!
I loved the way Ms. Davis incorporated the realities one faces each day as well as God's standard for life into this book.
Another fun sweet read in this enjoyable series by Elsie Davis. Poppy is excited to start a new chapter in her life as a Nanny for Jordan, so imagine her surprise when he fires her once they meet in person. Jordan reconsiders and hires Poppy temporarily while he makes other plans. But what about Poppy's plans? She can't return to her former job and home. Can she start over in Lincoln without the nanny position or will she have to uproot herself and move again?
Poppy didn't trust many people & didn't grow up in a home with love. Instead she had a nanny. When stuff happened she applied for a new job but found similar hurts, pain & dishonesty there. She was talked into staying; friends slowed up, full of support. A story of finding healing from all the hurts shed experienced.
This was a good Christian romance. She was running from rumors and he was still broken from his wife dying. Together they found true love, a long with a five year old daughter. Good read.
Story of finding love again and allowing God to work in one's life was great. The problems were missing first pages of several chapters and repeated chapter. Made reading book difficult. Story deserves 4 stars but with printing issues rate book lower.
When we stop running, we can be still and know that God is in control. We belong first with Him and then just maybe He brings someone special into our lives. Very well done!
The story is good, but the grammar is awful. There are missing words and chapter seven is a repeat of chapter six. If you can get past all of that it’s a good read
