A second murder victim with a similar MO. A growing number of questions with no answers. And a mind that feels like it is slipping with each passing hour.

Cory Van Doren feels like he is on the brink of total collapse. The world he has always known has become alien to him, and everywhere he turns, another demon lurks. His long-time partner has been reassigned, there is a serial killer on the loose, and every time he blacks out, he falls further behind in the case.

Have things gotten too messed up for him to ever recover? Why is it that his police chief is so interested in his case? Are the episodes he’s experiencing linked to his past or is he simply going insane?

As reality and nightmares start to morph into one, Cory has to try and remain focused on the task at hand. But each time he takes a step forward, a new clue drives him several paces back.

When Cory shows up at the Blue Lake Resort, things are already spiraling out of control. Even as the bloated face of the murder victim stares back up at him, it feels like it is only a matter of time until the killer will stike again, and Cory is starting to think he isn’t the right man for the job.

Now he needs to race against the clock to solve the case while his own life rapidly deteriorates, and he just doesn’t know which one will crack first…

Since meeting Cory and watching him grow up to become an officer of law enforcement in the Double Deception Series, Charles Elliot has more than met my expectations in the first three books plus the prequel. Because I have read the books in order, I have wondered if Cory would seek help. And in Blue Lake we see that he does. But is it enough? Could he be the murderer? All four books are indeed stand alones.
Charles Elliot has a way with words and a vocabulary to go with it! No skipping paragraphs or even pages because of profanity, gore, or explicit sex scenes.
Read the books in order or just grab a copy of the first that pops up and you will be turning the pages until the end, being totally entertained and crime solving the entire time. Thank you Charles Elliot for sharing your gift of writing with us!

Book 3 Double Deception not including the Prequel is a doozy.

Here we are in the midst of not one but two investigations with more on the horizon and they are coming at full force with Corey's life seeming to fall apart.

Is he losing it? Does he have split personality? Or better yet is he living this entire thing in his head? These are just some of the question I have and omg I am going to find out out.

I absolutely love that this is not a novel per se but shot snippets given in episodic groups to keep you not only guessing but captivated cause I am just as confused as the main character...what in the bleep is going on???!

Saying tuned in!!!!.

With Cory slipping deeper into his disorientation, he is losing his grip on reality. The nightmares are coming with a vengeance and blocks of time are disappearing completely.
With the latest murder, he's even more convinced that his world is changing for the worse. Reality is becoming harder to distinguish.
Will he get help before it's too late? Or is it already too late?
A page turner that will leave you wanting more. I recommend this whole series, as it gets better and better, with each new book.

This continues with the leftover aftermath of toxic masculinity and how it can infiltrate any part of a man’s life at any moment. Cory needs to start making some changes in his life and career before he literally loses his mind.
Two positive aspects of this series are teamwork and camaraderie between partners and among various departments of law enforcement. The kind of understanding and support that only fellow ‘travelers on the trauma train’ can offer.

Can’t wait for ‘Looney Bin’!

This book was better than the first 2 books. There was a little more excitment but it's still really hard to care about the characters. I don't know if this is meant to be a murder mystery or a story about a police detective messed up because of his horrible father and his brother's suicide. I don't like the writing style and the books are all short and end on a cliffhanger. It's up to you but I'm done with this series.

I picked this short story from another authors promo. This is my review. Cory is handling too much on his plate, and it seems as though he's spiraling deeper into the void. Is he losing it or..... to be continued

Definitely some twists in these stories. I'm curious to see how this is going to end. I have my suspicions but we'll see. It's a good story.

Very compelling both in characters and plot. It certainly has a very realistic feel to it.
The blackouts coinciding with the murders poses another puzzle for Cory.
