James Dobrev: The Cold Murder

Rate this book
James Dobrev was a prosperous author. He lived all of his life in Chicago. One night, he stopped working on his novel and went to the closest liquor store. When he got to the store, something unpleasant happened. Since then, James' life became a nightmare. He was accidently involved in a murder. The target was a Russian man who had been kidnapped from Moscow. The police detectives couldn't understand how the Russian man looked the same as he did sixty years ago. The police sent James to Bulgaria for witness protection. His trip to Bulgaria was bizarre. James realized that some people were watching him. Just as things seemed to be going okay, James received shocking news. His mother disappeared. He had to fly back to Chicago. A few weeks later, one of the most brutal firefights in the history of Illinois occurred.

Detailed and vivid

I always read the reviews for any book before I start, especially the critical ones. So, I went in it expecting not much. I was pleasantly surprised, as this is a well written story.

The author has done a fantastic job with the narration, and I relished reading every page. The plotline is thrilling, driven by characters and dialogues. There are vivid descriptions of the beautiful and chancy city of Chicago. If you live there or have an affinity for that city, you will appreciate this book even more.

Give this a chance, you will enjoy it for sure.

James dobreath write books to support himself but doesn’t want to be called a writer. He lives in Chicago and spin his days in the condominium he owns a night drinking with his best friend. One night he decides to stay in a must visit Jimmy’s liquor store to get his fix for the night but when leaving he proceeds another man and what and when they step out shots fired in both men or hit the other one is killed. Jackson is the lead detective with this partner Joe but when they identified the other man who is from Bolivia they’re confused by the thought this man was supposedly murdered in 1969 at 55 and yet he still looks nowhere near the 100 years he supposed to be. Things get even more complicated when they see that this murder is identical to James his dad‘s murder and when other people start getting hurt and killed James is sent into the witness protection program and he choose to go to Bolivia. As if things weren’t strange enough now he sees people following him in a country he’s never been to. Will James make it out alive and who are these people following him? OK a couple of things first of all detective Jackson wears outfits that are worth $4000 and he’s a Chicago detective he also has a very very expensive car whose name I forget. Plus every person that was mentioned so was the race if they were black it was mentioned they were black not African-American if they were Asian it was mentioned they were Asian but if they were white it mentioned the European country they were from. I don’t at all think this author meant that as a slight or a put down I can only hope he just didn’t know better. Also if there is a witness protection program that pays for you to go on extended European holidays signed me up. Not only that he has a son who after a car wreck couldn’t take care of himself and Hass to be in a hospital and care for 24 seven and James loves his son but did he take him with him… No he didn’t he left him with his mother and despite his best friend was murdered and the cops partner was Pete up they were still shocked when James his mother went missing. Having said that though I read the whole book because the story was really good. From the beginning it seemed as if a high school student wrote the book but when it comes to the story it was really really interesting. If only this writer could figure out the more GenTeal way to speak of brace or introduce it in a book and get acquainted with the more relaxed writing style I think he could be a really good writer. That’s why I gave the book 3 stars it’s mainly for the story that was unexpectedly pretty great! I received this book from book Sirens and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

A very well-written book, which intertwines 2 different worlds-the east and the west in interesting and curious for the reader way. The story is fascinating, not really long and it's easy to understand even for foreigner like me.
