People talking an unrealistic amount during a fight is just a comic book convention. I know that and I accept that and I have no problem with that.

My problem with the conversation that happens during this fight is that it feels like a conversation that should be happening instead of a fight. Like… there's a potentially interesting conflict at the heart of this (queen vs warrior), but I don't think it's best served in the way it's actually presented.

Plus, it's just… like… a lot of catching up. This feels like a conversation people would have over a drink rather than with weapons between them. The lust for power on Nubia's antagonist's part just doesn't feel well-earned, and… while I know how Amazons end up on Themyscira, (in my limited reading) I've never gotten the impression that they're as tied to their past lives as Nubia is here.

Which brings me to my recurring complaint: I don't feel like I know who Nubia is or is trying to be. The qualifier I would add for this series is "in the present", because--yes--we've learned about who she was in a past life. And while that could have some very rich consequences for her present life/role, this just feels flimsy in the way it's been revealed so far.

…honestly, the final panel of this is exceptionally good, though.

The third issue of Nubia: Queen of the Amazons is perhaps the weakest of the series so far, as we get little development of the character, and more of a focus on fighting in an issue that's dominated by action scenes.

Nubia has been one of the more interesting characters in the Wonder Woman mythos since the light reboot of Infinite Frontier, and readers have gotten to see the character grow and grow over the months to the point where she is not just a worthy queen for all of her people, but possibly the best one that they've ever had. But she's also been made much more human along the way too; and this has been a high-point of this particular title.

However, the character revelations of the previous two issues are forced to take a back-seat as fighting takes over. I know that action is one of the chief draws for super hero comics, and that no series can ever escape it, but after two issues where Nubia and her journey, along with her discovery of her past, have been the focus, it feels like a bit of a step backwards this issue as the combat is what's given the most time.

Because of this, I found this to be the weakest issue in the series, and was left trying to get through the fight scenes hoping for more interesting stuff to come along.

Whilst there's nothing wrong with this issue, it did leave me feeling slightly bored at times, and hoping for more to happen. With this being the penultimate issue it feels like a lot of important time was lost here, and that this space could have been given over to more interesting stuff. With only the one issue left, it feels like perhaps the series is going to have to rush a little in order to wrap everything up.
