It's been a while since I was able to visit the Royal Kagan world, thankfully it hasn't changed much it still has powerful, dominant alpha males and sometimes even stronger females. For the most part the males dominate this world but that's all about to change if Nyx has her way, she was brought up to strive for a place on the Council. Anton is a shoe in for the next eldest being the oldest shifter on the council. For years he has been searching for the book his namesake has written as he believes it better protects the females and will allow the Council to mate. All that changes when Nyx applies for the open secretarial position and he discovers that Nyx is his now more than ever he must find the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story as it has a bit of everything I love while being well put together and a page turner. I would definitely recommend this to all the shifter loving people cause they will get quite the "meat" to chew if you know what I mean.

Oh my! This author has done it again. I just can't seem to get enough of these Royal Shifters and their extremely primal/dominate site.
Although this can be read as a stand alone, I will be referencing things that happened within the series prior to this book in this review. Still no spoilers though...
Anton Alexander is a Councilman who's dedicated his life (literally) to protecting through the law. Advocating for woman's rights, as well as other issues, have become a focal point to him ever since Molly joined his pack. Even though he doesn't see his pack often, protecting them is the most important thing in his world.
Nyx Mercer is the niece of a Councilman who is out for revenge. She's always been in the shadows, bowing down to men and their primitive ways of treating woman less than. But now she has a chance to fix that. All she has to do is produce proof that Anton killed his former secretary. Once she does that, she can take the vacant seat on the Council, becoming the first woman to ever sit there. But she's starting to find that not everything she's been told holds truth. In fact, there are many things that don't add up.
The plot only thickens when you add in the fact that Anton recognizes that Nyx is his true mate, even though she has noticed yet. Councilman having a mate is extremely dangerous because they can easily be used against them. But he's having a very hard time dismissing her. Pushing her away has only made it that much harder to distance himself. And you'll never guess how Nyx deals with being pushed away.
I feel like it's been a while since I've read this series. Maybe is has. But once I started reading this, it all came back to me. And it was nice to visit with Kane and Molly again. The chemistry between Anton and Nyx is super hot. The anticipation built so much that it's no wonder there was an explosion. Obviously, there's a HEA, but now I'm looking forward to the next one.

I do love this series. I love how she has come up with something like the Royals.
I tried to put myself in Anton's shoes. Here he was one that sit on the seat of the Shifter Council. He wanted to be there to fight for his people but he chose such a lonely life. He chose to never be with his mate if he ever found her. He chose fighting for his people over his happiness, over love. This had to be a very lonely road.
I just loved Nyx. She might of been young but she had this fire about her. She was a strong sifter for not being a Royal. She had dreams and wanted to chase them. She did not want to be tied to a mate and give up her dreams.
I love how she came in like this storm in Anton's life. She did not fear Anton even though she knew the rumors that surrounded him. It was like she had this 6th sense that told her he would not hurt her.
I can only imagine what it was like for Anton to realize he found the one thing he felt he could never have, his mate. I loved reading the inward battle he was faced with, to keep her or to let her go. He wanted to be this unselfish man but part of him wanted to be selfish and keep her.
I loved we got to see what kind of person Nyx was. She had a good heart and wanted to do what was right. She had this inward battle of her own. She wanted to get to the bottle of things and find the truth.
There was a lot of steamy parts in the book and I loved no matter how much Anton tried to come off this cold person that Nyx saw right through him and knew what he was doing. She call him on his crap and did not care going toe to toe with him. Just loved it.
Great story and glad I got a chance to read the book.

Aton Alexander is being framed. Nyx is the woman trying to find evidence of a murder he didn't commit. They both have a lot at stake but the one thing getting in the way is the fact that they are true mates. Aton doesn't want to be tied to her because it could kill them both. They will have to work together to fulfill their goals towards women's rights for shifters but there are so many who will work to stop that. Aton will need Kane, his pride leader, to help him will this battle. He will also need Nyx if he is to save his family's book from the first shifters.
I was very engrossed in this book and all of the twists and turns it presented. Ms. Corrigan drew me in with all of the action, sex, and surprises. I hope to see more of some of the characters who have not yet had a story. There are a few loose ends that I would like to see tied up. Perhaps they will be in the next series. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series of shifters and I plan to read more like this.

August 27, 2020I have come to recognize that a lot of authors - particularly mid-list and less well-known or self-published authors, really rely on reviews to drive readers to their books. I don't want to punish those authors whose books, through no fault of their own, were simply not my cup of tea, so I'm going to refrain from star-rating those books. This was one of those books.
I've been trying to increase my romance reading because it is one of several genres where I'm woefully under-read. I've found that reading titles out of my comfort zone is a good way to do this, and I'm aware that there are many, many shape-shifting romance books out there. So I thought I'd give one a try.

Oh man I loved the latest from Nancy Corrigan and her shifter world!! When Nyx walks into Anton's world it will change everything. Nyx has her reasons for showing up wanting to work for Anton and he has his reasons for not wanting her to stay, but the pull they feel won't be denied no matter what it may mean. Nyx is such a strong female character and she matches Anton is so many ways while complimenting him in other areas. Anton knows that he has a strong female for his fated mate in Nyx. These two could be an unstoppable force when it comes to making necessary changes for the shifter world. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book.

Love This Series
Forbidden Mate by Nancy Corrigan is book 8 of her Shifter World Royal-Kagan series. It's fantastic. The series really advances in this next book. We finally get to see what the first Alexander Pride leader really thought. This book centers around the council and gives the reader a better understanding of shifter politics. Trust me when I say add with all politics comes intrigue, backstabbing, surprises, trust issues and so much more. I'm excited to learn that Kade's book is next I can't wait. Thank you Nancy for sharing your amazing world building with us.

Fantastic Read
This is a fantastic read. I've read all the books in this series so far and I'm so captivated by the shifter world Nancy has developed. Though this book is more about shifter politics, I now have a greater understanding about the motives from previous books in this series. This book also mirrors a lot of what's going on in this postmodern era regarding women's rights and our fight to be heard and counted. I applaud Nancy for using her pen as a voice. I look forward to the next book in this series.

They highs and lows but finally mate after she gets her Uncle Boris's seat on the Shifter Council on his death. They also find that the ancient in charge of their artifacts and history has been lying by translating times of ancient law to meet his beliefs. He is killed by Anton when he's trying to kill Nyx. And it continues with the Shifter Affair stories.

Yet another awesome book in the Royal Kagan series. Although there's plenty of hot and steamy these books have a wealth of intrigue and political back stabbing to keep you focused. The story has a twist that I never expected - but you will have to read it to find out what it is.
If you've read any of the previous books in this series you know how consuming they are and you won't be disappointed.

Excellent!
Anton and Nyx's story was everything and more. Nyx was sent to Anton by her uncle to get evidence that he killed his last secretary so he could have him removed from the council. The twists and turns in this story will boggle your mind and keep you guessing until the very end. I absolutely loved this book and the series.

Anton and Nyx
Nancy Corrigan did an AWESOME job telling Anton and Nyx's story. The sexual tension between the two of them from the beginning and watching them fall in love. Nyx showed her strength even though she was newly matured. I would recommend this book to everyone. Thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you Nancy.

Excellent storyline
Each book in the series can be read alone but I've thoroughly enjoyed following the sequence. Each story evolves the shifter world making it richer and more diverse. It's taken on a life of its own and the characters have become friends.. Wonderful series of books, well written and edited too so it flows beautifully..

Loved it!!
This is another really fab book in this shifters series and fans of these books will love all the twists and turns in the story. Anton has appeared before and I loved getting to know him more and getting to see what the council is like. Nyx is a great female lead and brings lots of fun to the story. Can’t wait to see who is next....I’m patiently waiting for Kade 😁

I hadn't expected this to be the next story, but I liked Nyx a lot. Goes to show when one or two people are the only ones to view an original piece of law and are the only ones to copy from it, that corruption can happen. I wonder where the Book was for 1,000 years. Cant wait to see Kade's story already.

This one is so worth the wait. The characters turned out not to be quite what I thought. Which is always a nice surprise. I will patiently wait for Kade and Zoe's story. This is one of those series you doesn't end.😊

For a shifter series, there is not much shifting.
The reason I rated this book more than the prior ones in the series is because I enjoyed the change in the Council and the change in their laws when it comes to females in power. Something that the real human world is still lagging in.

Amazing
This was a really good book! I like that Molly finally got a pretty good ending. The only thing that sucks is the next book won’t be released until next year had I know that I wouldn’t have even started the series! I hate waiting for the next books!

The story was good. It had decent conflict and the characters were really good. It was a good read. I was just glad I got through the collection though. As another reviewer mentioned "I got through it"

This book was just okay in my opinion. I don’t feel like this one lived up to the others in the series. I think Boris, Nyx, and Anton all basically wanted the same things from the Council by way of shifter law, but everyone is so afraid to talk to anyone else not knowing if they will disagree.
