Kerry Allyne was born in England, UK. Her early childhood was uneventful, she remembered, until her father came home one day and began talking about emigrating to Australia. When they eventually arrived in Australia, Kerry took to her new land with a passion. During the family's first years "down under," she explored as much of the country as she could, journeying northward into Queensland and out onto the Great Barrier Reef, and sometimes south through New South Wales into Victoria. As a adult she returned to England for a short time. A long working holiday enabled her to travel the world before returning to Australia where she met her engineer husband-to-be, and they had a couple of children. The family eventually moved to a rural area and she started to write. She used the people and countryside as inspiration for her romances. She was published by Mills & Boon from 1976 to 1994.
I loved this one. The h was an honest, hard working girl from a travelling/carnival family who takes a job with the H to pay back a criminal debt on behalf of her n'ere-do-well brother. Along the way she has to put up with a lot of prejudice, and some downright nastiness, but she's always honorable and good- never a doormat. This is one of those books where I WISH these vintage M&Bs gave you the H's point of view. I would love to have been privy to his inner thoughts when his plans for revenge were eclipsed by love.
I once say Kerry Allyne isn’t for me and I really mean it. This was so boring and dull. Story would have been fine but I was bored with the overly drawn out conversations between the characters and sides. It made them all appear dumb to understand anything at all. Alone in one setting they would have a conversation about the moment’s issue over and over, repeatedly affirming this and that forever. So deep and so thorough they speak yet they only drive in circles! Never again.
I think the male character should grovel more for his stupid 'revenge' plan.
The heroine is young, sweet and inexperienced. She longs for a stable life while her family constantly travels with circus. Her brother steals the hero's money and the latter demands she pays him back by helping in the kennel. The hero's mother is horrible to the girl, the hero is into kissing (in public ans in private) and the heroine is confused.
I enjoyed reading this book. I usually do enjoy Kerry Allyne's books. Taryn and Slade's road to romance was an adventure. I loved that Slade was a dog breeder and trainer. I learned a little about the Australian Kelpie and even looked it up :)
