a quick easy read mostly a lion in winter study. the author a music journalist comes in at the height of the conductor's career and becomes a friend privileged to have the hardworking genius as a frequent dinner guest for long prank-filled evenings. toscanini proves to have a tempestuous personality in this biography covering world war ii and the years with NBC radio.
The anecdotes of this strong and brilliant man were interesting. At times, though I found his temper to be upsetting and I think the author was a little too willing to overlook some things. That is nothing against the book, though clearly. Fun, quick read. Wish there was more about his score study and musical understanding.
