does a good job with the fantasy aspect. it's got a unicorn, a magical glade, an evil wizard, a fairy queen, and a talking bluebird. so, it's pretty much your standard fantasy book. but it’s also deeply weird, with weird doll dioramas.

barbie has to defeat the wizard by making her way through three obstacles he's set up. only she does so by somewhat unconventional means. for example, there is a huge flock of crows who peck at her. she gets rid of them by melting candle wax and gluing some black feathers onto her cape so that she resembles a large black bird. there was even a diorama of this. it was hilarious.

there is also a troll who makes fun of barbie for not having enough eyes. so she gives him a potato to be his friend. only when you see the doll diorama, the troll himself only has two eyes. ???

but still, points for creativity. the only thing i will say is that i really did not like barbie's outfit. it was a plain blue sweater, gray pants, and black boots. pretty lackluster for a fantasy book.
